Adam Thielen's new deal with the Vikings is a four-year, $19.246-million pact through 2020.
The deal was originally reported as a three-year deal because Thielen had not signed his RFA tender, but it apparently was a three-year extension. Thielen will earn $6.746 million in 2017, and the value of the contract can reach $9 million per year via incentives. Even with 2016 first-rounder Laquon Treadwell on the roster, Thielen should be locked into the No. 2 job. Mar 23 - 11:01 AM

Vikings signed WR Adam Thielen to a three-year, $17 million contract with $11 million guaranteed.

The deal can reach $9 million annually with incentives. After catching 20 passes in his first 32 career games, Thielen had a massive 2016 as the No. 2 receiver when he passed Charles Johnson behind Stefon Diggs. Thielen finished with 69 catches for 967 yards (14.0 YPR) and five touchdowns. He was scheduled for restricted free agency, and the Vikings placed a second-round tender on him last week. Thielen made it known he was preferred a multi-year deal. He should be locked into the No. 2 job, while 2016 first-rounder Laquon Treadwell will compete for snaps in three-wide sets.

Vikings extended a second-round tender to restricted free agent WR Adam Thielen.

Thielen virtually came out of nowhere to hang a 69-967-5 receiving line for the season and average a robust 14.0 yards per catch. The 26-year-old is entering his fifth year out of tiny Minnesota State-Mankato and hopes to land a long-term deal. The Vikings may want to see him produce again in 2017 before doing so, but Thielen looks locked into three-wide sets in Minnesota.

Restricted free agent Adam Thielen's representation is pushing for a long-term deal.

The Vikings should be able to retain Thielen on a second- or, to be safe, first-round tender, but agent Blake Baratz is looking for a long-term commitment. "They have the ability to do right by him, and he's far exceeded anyone's expectations," Baratz said. "We want to do something that makes sense for the team and makes sense for Adam. Otherwise, someone's going to be unhappy." A former undrafted free agent, Thielen should be looking to cash in coming off a breakout season, but the Vikings might want to see him do it again on a one-year tender, especially with 2016 first-rounder Laquon Treadwell waiting in the wings.

Adam Thielen caught his lone target for seven yards in the Vikings' Week 17 win over the Bears.

Thielen's season ended on a big "WELP!" With no Stefon Diggs (hip), Thielen played 60-of-63 snaps, but was an afterthought in the finale after a monster Week 16. Overall, the big picture for Thielen was pretty nice in 2016. The fourth-year UDFA finished with a 69-967-5 line, averaging a robust 14.0 YPR in one of the least-explosive offenses. Thielen really came on late in the year, posting a 4-101 line in Week 14 and a massive 12-202-2 in Week 16. He has good size at 6'2/200, and as his YPR would reflect, he also has some big-play ability. Thielen will be extended an offer as a restricted free agent and is the favorite to open 2017 as the No. 2 receiver. 2016 first-rounder Laquon Treadwell should push him for the gig, but Treadwell showed nothing as a rookie.
Jan 1 - 6:11 PM

Adam Thielen caught 12-of-15 targets for 202 yards and two touchdowns in the Vikings' Week 16 loss to the Packers.

The Vikings lost 38-25, but this was not a garbage time aided effort. Thielen was ripping up yardage from the opening whistle, getting open at will. The highlight was a 71-yard touchdown in the second quarter where Thielen pantsed Quinten Rollins with a double move down the sideline. The monster effort cements Thielen's emergence as the Vikings' No. 1 receiver, and leaves him 40 yards shy of 1,000 heading into the finale. Closing out his age-26 season, Thielen will be a restricted free agent.

Adam Thielen said he feels "fine" after suffering a neck injury against the Colts in Week 15.

He's practicing Tuesday fully expects to play Saturday against Green Bay. Before his injury-shortened game in Week 15, Thielen had averaged a respectable 76.3 yards over his previous four outings. He'll be on the WR3/4 radar in a good matchup against the Packers.

Adam Thielen is done for the day in Week 15 with a neck injury.

Thielen suffered the injury early in the third quarter and will not return after being taken into concussion protocol. Charles Johnson has taken over alongside Stefon Diggs and Cordarrelle Patterson in three-receiver sets. Before exiting, Thielen was held catch-less with just one target.

Adam Thielen exited Sunday's Week 15 game with an apparent head/neck injury.

Thielen took a helmet directly to the head at the end of a contested pass by Colts CB Darius Butler. Thielen originally appeared fine, but later went to the locker room. The Vikings announced Thielen will go through concussion protocol.

Adam Thielen caught 4-of-5 targets for 101 yards in the Vikings' Week 14 win over the Jaguars.

Thielen's biggest play was a 41-yard gain on the Vikings' second drive. Despite Stefon Diggs' healthy return, Thielen has carved out fantasy value as Minnesota's No. 2 receiver, well ahead of both Cordarrelle Patterson and Laquon Treadwell on the depth chart. Thielen is an every-week WR4/flex consideration. He gets a favorable matchup at home indoors against the Colts next.

Adam Thielen caught 7-of-9 targets for 86 yards in the Vikings' Week 13 loss to the Cowboys.

Soaking up checkdowns, Thielen actually led the Vikings in receiving yards, but committed a catastrophic blunder in the fourth quarter, losing a fumble on a punt return. It was encouraging that Thielen remained so involved even with Stefon Diggs back in the lineup, but his kind of game is his absolute ceiling. Most weeks he'll catch 4-6 passes for 40-60 yards. You can do better.

Vikings WR Adam Thielen (shoulder) is practicing in full for Week 13.

Thielen drew 10 targets on Thanksgiving, but that number will probably halve if Stefon Diggs (knee) is ready to return against the Cowboys. Even were Diggs to sit, Thielen would be a WR4.

Adam Thielen caught 8-of-10 targets for 53 yards in the Vikings' Week 12 loss to the Lions.

A glorious day for PPR league players, but a whole bunch of nothing for everyone else. Thielen was the intended target on Sam Bradford's game-costing interception, arguably letting Darius Slay run his route for him. Thielen is a nice fit for the Vikings "short passes, don't screw up" offense, but that offers limited fantasy appeal in standard leagues. He'll have trouble compiling against the Keepaway Cowboys in Week 13.

With CB Marcus Sherels inactive, Adam Thielen is expected to return punts Week 12 against the Lions.

Thielen already is in for a lot more work with Stefon Diggs (knee) inactive, and his fantasy value gets another boost in return-yardage leagues with this news. In DFS, he is an interesting correlation play with the Vikings DST. Even in non-return leagues, Thielen is shaping up as a solid WR3 with upside.

Vikings WR Adam Thielen caught 5-of-5 targets for 65 yards and a touchdown on Sunday's Week 11 win over the Cardinals.

Credit to ESPN's Britt McHenry for alerting us that Thielen would have a bigger Week 11 role than usual with Patrick Peterson on Stefon Diggs. Although Thielen was technically out-targeted by Cordarrelle Patterson (8), everything thrown Thielen's way was caught and he got started early with a first-quarter touchdown. Thielen's usage can be hit or miss in Minnesota's low-volume passing game. He's a better real-life than fantasy receiver.
