It's unfortunate that Chrebet waited a year too long to retire because of repeated post-consussion complications. That said, he caught a crucial and fitting third-down pass on his final play as a pro. He finishes second on the Jets all-time receptions list behind Don Maynard.

According to the New York Daily News, WR Wayne Chrebet is expected to announce his retirement within the next two weeks.

Chrebet suffered what is believed to be the ninth concussion of his playing career Sunday and was placed on injured reserve yesterday.

Wayne Chrebet (concussion) was placed on injured reserve Monday and will miss the remainder of the season.

Chrebet sustained at least his ninth concussion of his college and pro career. This could be the end to his career. Jerricho Cotchery will replace Chrebet as the team's slot receiver.

Chrebet paired up well with Laveranues Coles a few years ago, but don't expect him to be much more than a third down receiver this season. Many questioned if Chrebet would even play this year and Jerricho Cotchery is pushing for playing time.

They will have to give him a $250,000 roster bonus next week if they mean it. It's a surprising and curious move if it happens.

It's been quite a ride for the undrafted free agent out of Hostra, who started out 12th on New York's depth chart at wideout his rookie season. He almost became the franchise's all-time leading receiver.

Coach Herm Edwards sounded certain Wayne Chrebet will play this week.

The Jets said they were cautious playing Chrebet after a short week and feared losing two receivers because Santana Moss' hamstring is injured. Chrebet still isn't a great playoff league pickup.
