Jaguars CB A.J. Bouye was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 10.
One of the rare free-agent signings to work out as well as possible, Bouye is enjoying another lockdown season in his first with the Jaguars. He's Pro Football Focus' No. 8 cover corner out of 116 qualifiers and has yet to allow a touchdown in his coverage while quarterbacks have a 36.8 passer rating when throwing at him. Last week, Bouye's INT in overtime set up the winning field goal against the Chargers. He and Jalen Ramsey are easily the league's top corner duo. Nov 15 - 9:38 AM

Jaguars signed CB A.J. Bouye, formerly of the Texans, to a five-year, $67.5 million contract with $26 million guaranteed.

Bouye wanted to best the deal Janoris Jenkins got from the Giants last year and accomplished just that. A breakout 2016 performer, Bouye went from No. 4 on the depth chart last summer to a true shutdown No. 1 in DC Romeo Crennel's defense. The Jaguars are banking on him repeating it. This Jacksonville defense is brimming with talent. Unfortunately, Blake Bortles holds the keys to the offense.

NFL Network reports the Jaguars are "closing in" on a deal to land free agent CB A.J. Bouye.

Bouye informed the Texans he would not be returning on Thursday. He clearly has a better offer from Jacksonville, and it's been rumored Tennessee went hard after Bouye, as well. Allen Robinson would likely welcome the opportunity to practice against Bouye and not have to face him on Sundays. Last Week 15, Bouye held Robinson to two catches for 15 yards on eight targets, with neither reception occurring in Bouye's coverage.

Terry McCormick of Titan Insider reports the Titans are interested in free agent CB A.J. Bouye.

The Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson has reported Bouye is expected to stay in the AFC South, and the Titans have a ton of cap space and a big need at corner. The Jaguars could be Tennessee's biggest competition while the Bears are reportedly interested as well. McCormick reports the Titans are also interested in free agent LB Dont'a Hightower, but it seems unlikely they offer two top-of-the-market contracts.
Mar 9 - 9:53 AM

According to ESPN's Jeff Dickerson, the Bears have made a "strong offer" to free agent CB A.J. Bouye.

Dickerson didn't offer any monetary details but said the Bears' interest is "very real." It looks like Chicago is going all in on Bouye after missing out on Stephon Gilmore. Adam Schefter reported earlier that Bouye is expected to leave Houston. It's still early in the Bouye sweepstakes, but so far the Bears and Eagles have shown the most interest.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports free agent CB A.J. Bouye is "likely" to leave the Texans.

It's a mild surprise after beat reporter John McClain predicted last week that Bouye had an 80 percent chance of re-signing. ESPN's Ed Werder mentioned Wednesday that Houston was growing "concerned" that Bouye might leave to join the Eagles. He's also sparked interest from the 49ers, Bears, Buccaneers, Colts, Jaguars and Titans. Bouye's new deal is expected to top $13 million annually.
Mar 9 - 8:12 AM

According to ESPN's Ed Werder, the Texans are "concerned" about losing free agent CB A.J. Bouye to the Eagles.

It was reported Tuesday that Bouye was likely to sign with a team in the AFC South, but now the Eagles are making a strong push. The sides have been talking since the legal tampering period began on Tuesday, though Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle insists the Eagles have yet to make an offer. With all the interest he's generating, Bouye seems like a lock to hit or top $13 million annually.
Mar 8 - 11:14 AM

The Houston Chronicle reports free agent CB A.J. Bouye is likely to remain in the AFC South.

Meanwhile, ESPN's Dan Graziano reports the Texans are hopeful of locking Bouye up before the start of the new league year on Thursday. Bouye's agent has been leaking nonstop, linking his client to the Colts, Jaguars, Titans, Bears, Bucs, 49ers and Browns. Graziano reports Bouye's deal will likely be "in excess" of $13 million per season.
Mar 7 - 6:32 PM

The Houston Chronicle reports six teams are "extremely competitive" for free agent CB A.J. Bouye.

Per reporter Aaron Wilson, the Texans, Titans, Jaguars, Colts, 49ers and Browns are duking it out for Bouye's services, and every team's offer is for at least $12 million per season. Bouye has also been linked to the Bucs and Bears. With that many clubs fighting, Bouye could push that number all the way to $14-$15 million. Wilson reports the Eagles are "not a serious player," but that Houston very much wants to keep its young corner.
Mar 7 - 6:16 PM

CBS' Jason La Canfora reports the Jaguars are a "potential landing spot" for free agent CB A.J. Bouye.

The Jags are in the market for a corner with Prince Amukamara headed to free agency. This year's top available corner, Bouye would form a potentially fearsome duo with Jalen Ramsey in Jacksonville. Bouye has also been linked to the Bears, Buccaneers and Eagles.
Mar 7 - 5:06 PM

Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ Advanced Media reports the Eagles "have interest" in free agent CB A.J. Bouye.

According to Parks, the two sides are already talking. Cornerback was a problem area for the Eagles last year with Nolan Carroll, Jalen Mills and Leodis McKelvin (who was cut last month) all receiving negative grades from PFF. Coming off a breakout season in Houston, Bouye is widely considered the best cover corner in this year's free agent class.

Texans coach Bill O'Brien said "we really want" to re-sign impending free agent CB A.J. Bouye.

"A.J. is a very important part of our team," O'Brien said. "He's a guy that has really worked hard to improve his own skill set." Houston did not tag Bouye, but longtime beat writer John McClain gives them an "80 percent" chance to re-sign him. O'Brien's comments back that sentiment by making it clear there will be a serious push to get him signed in the next week. Bouye is set to break the bank, however, which undoubtedly complicates the Texans' efforts.
Mar 1 - 4:08 PM

Longtime Texans beat writer John McClain believes there's an "80 percent" chance Houston re-signs free agent CB A.J. Bouye.

The Texans won't tag Bouye, but it sounds like they're open to meeting Bouye's lofty demands. Still just 25, Bouye is expected to net at least $12 million annually. The Texans have a ton of money tied up in cornerbacks, including Johnathan Joseph, Kareem Jackson, and former first-rounder Kevin Johnson, but if they re-sign Bouye, aging vet Joseph could become expendable. Bouye looked like a true shutdown cover man in 2016.
Mar 1 - 11:00 AM

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Texans are not expected to use the franchise tag on free agent CB A.J. Bouye.

The Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson reported the same thing two weeks ago, and the Texans' stance hasn't seemed to change. Bouye will be the top cornerback on the market as a player who doesn't turn 26 until August. With beaucoup money available league-wide, it wouldn't be a shock to see Bouye become one of the league's two or three highest-paid corners by next week.
Mar 1 - 9:56 AM

MMQB's Albert Breer was told impending free agent A.J. Bouye will be the "clear king" of the cornerback class.

The fourth corner on his own team this time last year, injuries gave Bouye the opportunity to show what he can do, and he did not disappoint. Now the 25-year-old is an ascending star heading to the open market with plenty of teams desperate for corner help. It will not be surprising if he betters the five-year, $62.5-million deal Janoris Jenkins landed last March.
