CSN Bay Area believes 49ers C Jonathan Goodwin's starting job may not be guaranteed for 2013.

Goodwin has played well since arriving in San Francisco in 2011, but turned 34 in December. His $3.7 million salary is also the highest of any 49ers lineman. The 49ers have a pair of potential cheap, young replacements in OGs Daniel Kilgore and Joe Looney. Goodwin wouldn't hurt for one-year offers if he ended up on the open market.

49ers C Jonathan Goodwin exited Saturday's game in the second quarter with a lower-leg injury.

Goodwin's left knee buckled, and he had to be helped off the field. Adam Snyder is moving to center, with Chilo Rachal entering at right guard. Goodwin returned for the final possession of the first half.

It took nearly a month to do it, but the former Saints center finally knocked off journeyman Adam Snyder. "I truly believe we have seven starters on our offensive line," coach Jim Harbaugh said with a straight face. The Niners O-Line has been a sieve throughout the first three weeks of the exhibition season.

49ers signed C Jonathan Goodwin to a three-year, $10.9 million contract.

The 49ers moved quickly to sign the former Saint after he visited on Tuesday evening. Entering his age-32 season, Goodwin's play began to fall off in 2010, but he fills a huge void at center for the Niners after losing last year's starter David Baas. The Saints will turn the pivot over to former Boston College star Matt Tennant.

The Saints are currently using Matt Tennant as their starting center, and were never expected to "break the bank" for the 32-year-old Goodwin. The Niners are desperate at center and may be willing to give him guaranteed money.

Saints C Jonathan Goodwin just has a knee contusion, according to coach Sean Payton.

It looked bad for Goodwin when he got rolled into by his own man with just 1:02 remaining in Monday night's game. But the Saints aren't concerned and he should be ready to go this week against the Panthers.

Saints C Jonathan Goodwin left Monday night's game late in the fourth quarter with an apparent knee injury.

Goodwin was injured when backup TE David Thomas rolled onto his knee on a Mike Bell run. He couldn't walk off of the field under his own power and was replaced by Jamar Nesbit.

Goodwin, retaking his job from Matt Lehr, helped Pierre Thomas average nearly six yards per carry and the Saints' running game get into the end zone three times. Goodwin's return is a plus for New Orleans' offense as a whole.

The Saints reportedly expect C Jonathan Goodwin to miss 4-6 weeks with a knee injury he suffered in Sunday's loss at Carolina.

New Orleans let Jeff Faine go in free agency in the offseason and are left without quality depth behind Goodwin. His main backup is journeyman Matt Lehr, who has been on and off the roster all season. The Saints could also consider signing LeCharles Bentley, who they were linked to this summer.

Saints C Jonathan Goodwin missed Thursday's practice after tweaking his right hamstring Wednesday.

The Saints offensive line is already down one player after guard Jamar Nesbit was suspended, and left tackle Jammal Brown has been limited in practice. The team may look into re-signing Matt Lehr once again.

Saints re-signed G/C Jonathan Goodwin to a three-year, $8.5 million contract. ESPN's John Clayton reports the deal contains $3 million guaranteed.

Goodwin has rode the bench the past two years behind Jeff Faine, but likely came cheaper than the free agent Faine will. The numbers indicate Goodwin is a strong bet to step in as the Saints' starting center this season.
