Ex-Bowns OLB/DE Ausar Walcott says he acted in self-defense when he threw a punch that police said severely injured another man.
Walcott’s attorney filed court papers saying that Walcott and some friends were surrounded by 10 to 20 men who were making threatening comments to them. According to his attorney, Walcott was not the aggressor and threw a punch only after he was "accosted." Regardless of the legal outcome, Walcott's NFL career is all but over. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says he would have to approve any potential signing of free agent OLB/DE Ausar Walcott.

Walcott was charged with attempted murder last week. As is the case with Aaron Hernandez, Goodell says a signing could not take place before he "conducts a hearing and determines any appropriate discipline under the Personal Conduct Policy." Walcott was a fringe UDFA even before his arrest, so it's a moot point.

Ex-Browns OLB/DE Ausar Walcott pleaded not guilty to first-degree attempted murder and other charges on Thursday.

Walcott was arrested and charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault, and third-degree endangering an injured victim after punching a man in the face outside a strip club. The victim, Derek Jones, is in a medically-induced coma at a New York hospital. Walcott is being held on $500,000 bail, and he was released by the Browns on Wednesday. The undrafted rookie will never step foot on an NFL field.

Browns waived DE/OLB Ausar Walcott.

Walcott has been charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault and third degree endangering an injured victim after punching a man in the face outside a strip club. The undrafted rookie out of Virginia wasn't going to make the final roster anyway, making the Browns' decision much easier than the one the Patriots made Wednesday morning with Aaron Hernandez.

Browns rookie DE/OLB Ausar Walcott was arrested and charged with attempted murder Tuesday.

Walcott went undrafted out of Virginia before getting a tryout with the Browns. He allegedly punched a man outside the Palace Gentlemen's Club in Passaic, New Jersey. The man remained hospitalized in critical condition as of Tuesday. Walcott has been charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault and third degree endangering an injured victim. It's not his first incident -- Walcott was suspended while at UVA when he was involved in a fight. The Browns will be releasing him shortly.
