Former Giants RB Tiki Barber confirmed to ESPN New York that he has given up his comeback attempt.
Barber received no interest during the 2011 season. "No. No. I'm not trying to come back," Barber said. "It was an excuse for me to get up off the couch and do something. It worked, because now I'm engaged in a few different things and I feel really strong about where I am personally, and that's all that matters." Barber recently tried to set up a face-to-face meeting with Giants coach Tom Coughlin to "bury the hatchet," but Coughlin refused. Sun, Jan 15, 2012 01:19:00 PM

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, free agent Tiki Barber is generating zero interest around the league.

"Teams are not even giving him a look at this point in time," Schefter said on SportsCenter Wednesday morning. It can't be a good sign for Tiki's chances of resurfacing that the Bucs don't even want him. Tiki's brother, Ronde, carries a lot of weight in that organization, and they are running back-needy.

ESPN's Pat Yasinskas does not believe the Bucs will sign free agent RB Tiki Barber.

Earnest Graham (Achilles) is done for the season and LeGarrette Blount's (knee) status is unknown. That leaves them with just Kregg Lumpkin in the backfield. Still, despite connections to Tampa and a desperate need, the Bucs are better off going young for backfield help. Barber will be 37 in April and has been out of the league since 2006.

Plaxico Burress insists free agent Tiki Barber is "better than half the backs in the league" right now.

We have no idea how good Tiki is five years since his last carry because NFL teams have black-balled him as a clubhouse lawyer motivated to return perhaps by factors that go beyond football. "I'm very surprised he's not on somebody's roster," said Burress. "But it's just Week 4. Maybe somebody will call him. ... I believe he can still play and have an impact."

Free agent Tiki Barber has "moved forward accordingly" after attracting no sniffs on the open market, according to his agent.

The agent disputes Peter King's characterization that Barber is "devastated," but it doesn't matter. The 36-year-old back is unlikely to get another shot in the league, even after 2011 salaries are no longer guaranteed next week.

Free agent RB Tiki Barber did not get a call from a single team this weekend.

Barber and his agent are "flabbergasted" at the lack of interest, but Tiki is 36 and has been out of the league since 2006. Even washed up backs such as Larry Johnson and Clinton Portis got more sniffs. This should end Tiki's comeback saga.

Cardinals GM Rod Graves confirmed that he won't be looking at free agent RB Tiki Barber.

The Cardinals are on the hunt for a backup to Beanie Wells, but Barber isn't in their plans. It's a bad sign for Tiki as the Cards are desperate after losing Ryan Williams (knee) for the season. There is little left on the street in terms of running back help.

Free agent RB Tiki Barber worked out for the Dolphins on Tuesday.

It's Barber's first known workout since the transaction freeze was lifted last week. According to Glazer, "he looked good," but the Dolphins want to see how Daniel Thomas and Reggie Bush pan out before making a move. Barber will likely start generating more interest once teams get deeper into camp and more familiar with their personnel.

Giants released RB Tiki Barber.

The move was a formality. The Giants held Barber's rights into retirement and were all along going to release him if he came back to play. No one believed it was realistic at age 36, but Barber needs the money. He'll have a chance to latch on somewhere later in training camp or perhaps during the season.

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reiterates the Steelers have no interest in free agent Tiki Barber.

"Never have," adds Bouchette, who has been working hard to dispel this rumor all offseason. Barber's agent claimed to have legitimate interest from a couple of teams. We'd advise skepticism on that note.

SI's Peter King guesses that Tiki Barber will end up signing with the Steelers after the Giants release him.

Barber's release from the Giants will be a post-lockout formality. King admits that he "(doesn't) know" for sure where Barber will land, but the Bucs aren't believed to have interest, and there have been indications that Pittsburgh is. Barber is also known to have the Steelers on his short list of destinations.

CB Ronde Barber doesn't think it's "realistic" to believe the Bucs will sign his brother free agent Tiki Barber.

It was one thing when the local media threw cold water on the Tiki-to-Tampa rumors, but with his own brother (who has worn a Bucs uniform for 14 seasons) not viewing it as realistic, it can be all but assumed Tiki will have to look elsewhere in his comeback attempt.

In light of Tiki Barber's confirmation that the Bucs and Steelers are on his wish list this summer, the Tampa Tribune reiterates that it's "not likely to happen" with the Buccaneers.

This is the third time the Tribune has shot down talk of Tiki signing on to play with his twin brother, though we have a feeling the speculation isn't going away anytime soon. The Washington Observer-Reporter's Dale Lolley also reiterates that there is "very little chance" Barber will wind up in Pittsburgh.

Tiki Barber confirms that the Steelers and Buccaneers are two teams on the short list of clubs he wants to play for this year.

Tiki has been strongly connected to both teams, yet beat writers for each insist the interest is not mutual. Barber's agent suggests there are only a "handful" of coaches the 36-year-old would want to play for. NFL Network's Michael Lombardi opined on Tuesday's BS Report podcast that at least one team has promised Tiki a job "or else he never would have come back."

Giants DE Justin Tuck acknowledged that Tiki Barber wouldn't be welcomed back in the New York locker room.

"Tiki burnt some bridges as he left the game, said some things that maybe he shouldn’t have said," Tuck said. "... He said some things leaving the game that kind of left people with sour tastes in their mouths and they don’t forget that. ... He did kind of turn some people off with some of the things that he did the year that he was leaving. I guess he kind of knew he was leaving."
