49ers OC Greg Roman is interviewing for the Vikings' head-coaching vacancy on Saturday.
Roman is the type of candidate who could overtake Bengals DC Mike Zimmer as the favorite in Minnesota, having shown an ability to not only maximize limited-talent quarterbacks like Alex Smith, but develop a raw one in Colin Kaepernick into a franchise signal caller. The Vikings need quarterback help any way they can get it. Vikings GM Rick Spielman is also a 49ers admirer, having attempted to build his team (ineffectively) in San Francisco's likeness. Penn State has an interview set with 49ers OC Greg Roman.

Roman is also expected to meet with the Vikings and Redskins following the Niners' playoff run. However, he's not considered a favorite for any of these three jobs. Penn State is reportedly hot on the trail of Vanderbilt's James Franklin, and also has three candidates with Happy Valley ties in Mike Munchak, Greg Schiano and Al Golden. Roman, who has zero head coaching experience at the NFL or NCAA level, is favored to return as San Fran's offensive coordinator next season.

The Vikings and Redskins have reportedly reached out to the 49ers regarding OC Greg Roman.

Coordinators that won Wild Card games this weekend are now eligible to be interviewed, but it's unclear if Roman has any formal requests -- or if he'll take them until the Niners are eliminated. He's overseen San Fran's offense since 2011, seamlessly making the change from Alex Smith to Colin Kaepernick and going to the Super Bowl a year ago. Roman has zero head coaching experience.

NFL.com's Mike Silver reports 49ers OC Greg Roman would be "very, very interested" in the Lions' head-coaching vacancy if Jim Schwartz were fired.

Schwartz is tentatively expected to be relieved of his duties, perhaps as soon as tomorrow's "Black Monday." Roman has been San Francisco's offensive coordinator throughout Jim Harbaugh's 49ers tenure, following him from Stanford. Roman has lower-level assistant experience with the Panthers, Texans, and Ravens, but has never been a head coach at any level. The presence of Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson, and Reggie Bush would naturally make the Lions' job attractive to any offensive-minded coach.
