NFL spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed that free agent OT Luke Petitgout's four-game suspension is steroid related.
Petitgout is only 32 and was a solid starter as recently as the first half of the 2006 season, but his suspension is career threatening. Still, teams that incur injuries at tackle in the first few weeks figure to give him a look when he's eligible in Week 5. Petitgout can also play guard. Tue, Aug 19, 2008 12:08:00 PM

NFL suspended free agent OT Luke Petitgout four games for violating an undisclosed league policy.

Petitgout was cut by Tampa Bay on Saturday. The Bucs said he failed his physical, but it's hard to imagine this didn't have something to do with it. Petitgout, 32, will be eligible to play in Week 5 if someone gives him a shot.

Buccaneers released LT Luke Petitgout.

He was on the PUP list for all of training camp after struggling to rehab successfully from a torn ACL. It looks like Donald Penn will be the Bucs' starting left tackle this season. The Giants' decision to release Petitgout two years ago seemed crazy at the time, but now goes to show how well Jerry Reese has fared early in his tenure as general manager. The Bucs wasted their money.

Bucs LT Luke Petitgout remains on the camp/PUP list.

He's a candidate to stay on Physically Unable to Perform through the first six weeks of the season. Donald Penn will likely retain his starting job.

Bucs LT Luke Petitgout (torn ACL) has been placed on the camp/PUP list.

It looks like Petitgout isn't completely recovered from last season's knee injury. Donald Penn is taking snaps with the first team after playing well for a good portion of last season.

Bucs LT Luke Petitgout (torn ACL) is expected to be ready for training camp.

The Bucs will rest Petitgout for most of their pre-camp work, but expect him to battle Donald Penn to start. Penn, a former undrafted free agent, played well in 2007 before fading a bit down the stretch.

Bucs coach Jon Gruden confirmed Monday that LT Luke Petitgout will miss the rest of the season with knee injury. He will be placed on injured reserve.

It's believed Petitgout tore his ACL. Either youngster Donald Penn or veteran Anthony Davis will take over for Petitgout on Jeff Garcia's blind side. It's not promising news from a pass or run blocking standpoint for Tampa Bay.

The St. Petersburg Times reports Bucs LT Luke Petitgout is believed to have suffered a torn ACL in Sunday's game.

The Bucs have a decent option behind Petitgout, who hadn't been playing all that well anyways, in Anthony Davis. The Bucs should address the situation by Monday. Petitgout's career could be over if this report is true.

Luke Petitgout left Sunday's game in the second quarter with a right knee sprain.

Petitgout stayed down for several minutes before limping off the field under his own power, but he's been ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Bucs LT Luke Petitgout returned to 11-on-11 drills Monday morning.

Petitgout missed nine days with a back injury, something that could become a problem during the season. In other Bucs news, Kenneth Darby took snaps as the second-string tailback with Michael Pittman moving to fullback.

Bucs LT Luke Petitgout (back) and MLB Barrett Ruud (knee) will not play in the team's preseason opener Friday.

Anthony Davis will likely get the start in Petitgout's place, with rookie Arron Sears at left guard. Petitgout's back problems have become chronic. Ruud is expected to be held out of the game merely as a precaution.

Buccaneers T Luke Petitgout returned to practice on Saturday.

Petitgout only participated in individual drills and will be eased into full-team drills. The Bucs are being very cautious with the injury-plagued tackle.

Bucs LT Luke Petitgout has missed four days of camp with a back problem.

The Bucs only say Petitgout has a "tweak," but he's had issues with the back for quite a while. It was a main reason the Giants cut him in February.

Giants GM Jerry Reese ripped current Bucs left tackle Luke Petitgout on Wednesday, calling the former Giant "a marginal player for a long time."

Reese certainly could've done a better job of filling the void after axing Petitgout, but he failed to mention that: "People act like Petitgout was the second coming. He never made the Pro Bowl, and I don't think he ever was a first alternate. Now all of a sudden he's the savior? That's ridiculous."

Bucs agreed to terms with left tackle Luke Petitgout on a three year, $15 million contract. The deal includes a $3 million signing bonus.

Another high-risk signing for Tampa, but at least this one potentially has a high reward. Petitgout is one of the top run-blocking tackles in the league, and he won't have to protect the blind side if Chris Simms wins the starting job. He is coming off a broken leg and has a history of back troubles, so annual roster bonuses were built into the deal.
