Ka'Deem Carey rushed 14 times for 72 yards in Sunday's Week 4 loss to the Packers.
Carey came off the bench when Matt Forte needed a breather after a fistful of chunk plays in the first half. He also closed out the game well in garbage time. Just note that he's a mere handcuff, as Carey came into this game with two total touches. Sep 28 - 4:13 PM

Ka'Deem Carey was elevated to the No. 2 running back on the Bears' depth chart.

Coach Marc Trestman also confirmed Wednesday that Carey is indeed Matt Forte's direct backup. Veteran Shaun Draughn emerged from the preseason as the favorite for No. 2 duties, but the Bears have apparently seem an improved Carey in practice. The fourth-round rookie was one of the least impressive running backs during exhibition play, averaging 2.7 YPC on 27 attempts and breaking just two tackles. Pro Football Focus graded him out as their 110th back out of 128 qualifiers. We'd expect a committee approach should Forte get hurt.
Sep 3 - 3:57 PM

The Chicago Tribune suggests rookie RB Ka'Deem Carey may not be active on game days to open the season.

Carey was beaten out by Shaun Draughn for Chicago's primary backup tailback job, and No. 4 back Senorise Perry has more special teams value. Carey was one of the most disappointing rookies in the NFL during the 2014 preseason.
Aug 30 - 8:56 PM

Bears rookie RB Ka'Deem Carey rushed four times for 15 yards and caught four passes for 27 yards in Friday night's preseason game at Seattle.

After playing behind both Matt Forte and Shaun Draughn in Chicago's first two preseason games, Carey was the No. 2 back on Friday night, behind only Forte. The Bears clearly want Carey to win their primary backup job, although he has struggled throughout August, managing 74 yards on 27 carries (2.74 YPC) two three exhibition affairs. Carey has not impressed us from a Dynasty perspective.
Aug 23 - 12:38 AM

Coach Marc Trestman considers the Bears' No. 2 running back battle ongoing.

Journeyman Shaun Draughn has consistently outplayed rookie Ka'Deem Carey in preseason, and seems to be running away with the job. If Carey doesn't improve in the second half of August, the Bears may have to consider adding a veteran. Carey has looked sluggish on the edge and too small to move piles.
Aug 15 - 3:50 PM

Ka'Deem Carey rushed 13 times for 36 yards and a touchdown in the Bears' preseason game against the Jaguars.

The majority of Carey's yardage came on an outside-zone run where he gained 15 yards through an enormous hole. Otherwise, it was tough sledding, though Carey did show nice second effort on his one-yard plunge for a fourth-quarter score. Running well behind Shaun Draughn in the race for No. 2 duties, Carey has just 59 yards on 23 carries (2.56 YPC) thus far this preseason.
Aug 14 - 11:23 PM

Rookie RB Ka'Deem Carey managed 23 yards on ten carries in the Bears' preseason opener Friday night.

He worked as Chicago's No. 3 back behind Matt Forte and Shaun Draughn. Carey didn't show much elusiveness or speed to the perimeter, which aligns with his underwhelming measurables. He does seem to be ahead of Michael Ford, but at this stage is no lock to open the season as Forte's fantasy handcuff.
Aug 8 - 10:13 PM

Rookie Ka'Deem Carey is listed as the No. 4 tailback on the Bears' first unofficial depth chart.

He's behind Shaun Draughn and Michael Ford. It's possible this depth chart was largely put together on the basis of experience in the NFL, and isn't an indication of Carey's progress. He's reportedly shown well in pass protection so far in camp, and remains the favorite to open the year as Matt Forte's backup.
Aug 3 - 3:50 PM

ESPN Chicago considers fourth-round RB Ka'Deem Carey the favorite to open the season as Matt Forte's direct backup.

Michael Ford is Carey's competition. Ford is a more of a scat back, while Carey is a strong inside between-the-tackles runner with soft hands as a receiver out of the backfield. Neither player will have much fantasy value unless Forte goes down with an injury. Only then would Carey be in line for a monster workload.
Jun 24 - 9:23 AM

Bears signed fourth-round RB Ka'Deem Carey to a four-year contract.

Carey was viewed by some as the top running back in this year's class. He doesn't project as a long-term bellcow but should be a serviceable No. 2 in a one-two punch down the road. Carey is a strong inside runner and displays soft hands in the passing game. He should open the year as Matt Forte's backup.
May 13 - 3:49 PM

Bears selected Arizona RB Ka'Deem Carey with the No. 117 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft.

The Bears finally have someone who can competently spell Matt Forte. Carey (5-foot-9 3/8, 207) was a workhorse in Rich Rodriguez's option attack, topping 300 carries in each of his final two seasons en route to 42 rushing TDs and a 5.85 YPC average. He caught 77 passes across three years, and has soft hands in the passing game. We liked Carey's slashing style and inside-run skills on tape, but he ran 4.70 at the Combine and has off-field concerns. While Carey looked like a possible NFL starter when we studied him, there are obvious red flags. He's not overwhelmingly explosive, and is on the smaller side for a feature back. All that being said, he's a potential future lead back behind a 28-year-old Forte in Marc Trestman's run-friendly offense. Carey should be viewed as a late second- to early-third round Dynasty pick.
May 10 - 1:00 PM

Arizona RB Ka'Deem Carey managed forty times of 4.68 and 4.69 at the Wildcats' Pro Day.

He had a 35-inch vertical and 9-foot-8 broad jump. Carey ran 4.7-flat at the Combine. It's been a disappointing pre-draft process for Carey, who simply does not have blazing long speed. He's shaping up as a third-day prospect.

Mar 7 - 12:03 PM

Arizona RB Ka'Deem Carey clocked unofficial forty times of 4.65 and 4.62 at the NFL Scouting Combine.

The times are on the slower side for a 5-foot-9, 207-pound running back, though it was noticeable that Carey struggled with his start off the line on both of his runs. Carey is currently not listed among Mike Mayock's top-five running backs because Mayock believes he is strong in most areas, but lacks a "special" trait. We expect Carey to be a second-day draft choice.
Feb 23 - 3:24 PM

Arizona RB Ka'Deem Carey measured 5-foot-9 3/8 and 207 pounds at Friday's Combine weigh-in.

He was listed at 5-foot-10, 207 by the Wildcats, so this is pretty spot on. Early draftnik opinions seem to be mixed on Carey, though we were impressed by him during our initial rookie running back tape review. Carey is an explosive slasher with some Ray Rice to his game and deceptive lateral agility.
Feb 21 - 1:47 PM

Arizona RB Ka'Deem Carey will forego his final year of college eligibility and enter the 2014 NFL draft.

Carey rushed a whopping 349 times for 1,885 yards (5.4 YPC) and 19 TDs as a junior in Rich Rodriguez's spread-option offense, adding 26 receptions. He's listed at 5-foot-10, 207. Carey reportedly received a second-round grade from the NFL's Draft Advisory Board, and has drawn comparisons to LeSean McCoy and Gio Bernard for his in-space playmaking ability and elusiveness. He'll be a fantasy back to monitor closely in both Dynasty and re-draft circles.
