The Broncos will retain OC Bill Musgrave for 2018.
Musgrave began 2017 as the QBs coach. He was promoted to replace fired OC Mike McCoy on Nov. 20. Coach Vance Joseph said Musgrave's approach — more runs, fewer passes — was what he envisioned from the jump. Musgrave struggled to find the balance Joseph was looking for his first two games before averaging 35 rushes over his final four. Musgrave's 2018 success will depend on whether the Broncos can receive anything resembling competent quarterback play. The backfield, despite a 1,000-yard campaign from C.J. Anderson, could also use a talent infusion. Jan 2 - 1:25 PM

Broncos promoted QBs coach Bill Musgrave to offensive coordinator.

Musgrave always seemed like the emergency option should something go wrong with Mike McCoy, and that is exactly what happened. Musgrave led the Raiders' offense to a top-10 season last year, but he was let go so Oakland could promote Todd Downing to the position. Without a real quarterback and little help on the offensive line, Musgrave has a tough job on his hands.

Broncos hired Bill Musgrave as their QB coach.

It's a step down after Musgrave coordinated the Raiders to a top-six offense. Buffalo and Cleveland had interest in Musgrave but he ultimately decided to stay in the AFC West. In Denver, Musgrave will be tasked with developing Paxton Lynch into a starter. The Broncos will have an open competition at quarterback in 2017.

Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports the Broncos are "finalizing" a deal to make Bill Musgrave their new QBs coach.

The Broncos interviewed Musgrave and Mike McCoy for their offensive coordinator position. In the end, they decided to hire both coaches. As expected, McCoy will fill the offensive coordinator role with Musgrave handling the quarterbacks. Musgrave, who served as the Raiders' OC in 2016, drew interest from the Bills and Browns as a coordinator before deciding on Denver. With McCoy and Musgrave on board, Denver's offense will have a chance to take a big step forward in 2017.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Broncos will interview ex-Raiders OC Bill Musgrave and ex-Chargers coach Mike McCoy for their offensive-coordinator vacancy on Thursday.

Both would be excellent hires for new coach Vance Joseph, who just landed the Broncos' job Wednesday. Musgrave was let go by the division-rival Raiders earlier this week and would obviously have a fire burning in his belly to get "back" at Oakland. McCoy was the Broncos' OC before getting the head job in San Diego. Musgrave has also been linked to Cal-Berkley's head-coach gig.

The Raiders are letting OC Bill Musgrave's contract expire.

Musgrave arrived in Oakland with a less-than-stellar offensive reputation, but the Raiders scored the second-most points in the AFC this season. It's a mildly-surprising decision, one NFL.com's Ian Rapoport hints could have been made to retain/promote QBs coach Todd Downing. Downing is just 36 years old. Musgrave will probably have to return to position-coach work.

Raiders hired Bill Musgrave as offensive coordinator.

Musgrave, 47, was the Eagles' QBs coach this past season and oversaw Nick Foles' multiple steps back from his breakout 2013 under then-QBs coach-turned-Dolphins OC Bill Lazor. Prior to his time with the Eagles, Musgrave was the Vikings' offensive play-caller under coach Leslie Frazier. Musgrave failed miserably at using Percy Harvin and simply leaned on Adrian Peterson. It's not a promising hire for the Raiders in our opinion, but could be good news for Latavius Murray. Musgrave will have full control of the offense under defensive-minded coach Jack Del Rio. Musgrave worked under Del Rio in Jacksonville.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Eagles QBs coach Bill Musgrave is a "hot contender" for the Raiders' offensive-coordinator vacancy.

Disgusting. Musgrave proved to be as unimaginative as they come when he was the Vikings' OC under HC Leslie Frazier. He had no idea how to use Percy Harvin. The Vikings finished 18th, 20th, and 13th in total offense under Musgrave from 2011-2013 despite having Harvin and Adrian Peterson. Musgrave was new Raiders coach Jack Del Rio's OC in Jacksonville from 2003-2004.

Eagles hired ex-Vikings OC Bill Musgrave as quarterbacks coach.

It's Mugrave's second stint with the Eagles; he was an offensive assistant in 1998. Most recently, Musgrave, 46, oversaw one of the least imaginative offenses in the league in Minnesota from 2011-2013. He struggled mightily to find ways to use Percy Harvin and took an absurd amount of time to get rookie Cordarrelle Patterson involved this past season. Musgrave replaces Bill Lazor as Philadelphia's quarterbacks coach. Lazor left to take the Dolphins' OC job.
