Steelers signed QB Tajh Boyd.

A 2014 sixth-round pick of the Jets, Boyd made some highlight-reel plays in the ACC but is a wildly erratic passer and spent his entire rookie year out of the league. He'll try to push for Bruce Gradkowski's backup job in Pittsburgh.
Mar 6 - 1:15 PM

Tajh Boyd has signed with the Florida Blacktips of the Fall Experimental Football League.

A sixth-round pick of the Jets, Boyd couldn't beat out Matt Simms for the No. 3 quarterback job and was released during final cuts. He'll look to continue his career after failing to get any practice squad offers. Boyd could eventually resurface on a reserve/futures contract.

Free agent QB Tajh Boyd worked out for the Giants.

Boyd also visited the Bills this week. He's looking for practice squad work, but remains unsigned. The Giants don't have a No. 3 quarterback and would be a good landing spot.

Free agent QB Tajh Boyd worked out for the Bills.

He's also expected to work out for the Panthers on Wednesday. It's the first we've heard of Boyd since he was cut loose from the Jets. The Bills would be a good landing spot for the sixth-round rookie, as they don't have a No. 3 quarterback, and aren't sold on E.J. Manuel. Boyd should land on a practice squad before a 53-man roster, however.

Jets waived QB Tajh Boyd.

Boyd was the 213th overall pick in May's draft. He was brutal for much of the summer during practice and completed just 8-of-17 passes for 98 yards and one touchdown in the preseason. Boyd is headed for the practice squad. The Jets will roll with Matt Simms behind Geno Smith and Michael Vick.

According to the New York Daily News' Seth Walder, Jets sixth-round QB Tajh Boyd is "looking like a draft mistake."

"[Boyd] brings virtually nothing to the field," writes Walder. Boyd is getting few reps behind Geno Smith, Michael Vick, and Matt Simms, and has managed to throw "at least" six interceptions in camp. He was surrounded by big-time talent at Clemson. While Boyd has athleticism, his mechanics and ball placement are glaring holes to his game. Boyd may be headed to the practice squad.

Sixth-round QB Tajh Boyd admitted that he's struggled to pick up the Jets' offense.

"I've got a lot of work to do as far as me understanding," he said. "The type of offense is totally different. You're running a true West Coast." Boyd didn't take any snaps under center in Clemson's Pistol Option and will need time to adjust to a pro-style offense. He's competing with Matt Simms for the Jets' No. 3 quarterback job.

Sixth-round Jets QB Tajh Boyd is working on raising his arm slot.

Boyd mostly got away with a lower arm slot at Clemson, but it will lead to batted passes in the NFL. "I throw it at like different angles sometimes. Three-quarters, sidearm," Boyd said. "That’s kind of one of the things that made me a little different, but (the Jets want) me to come over with the full range of motion over the top." The 6-foot-1 Boyd is battling Matt Simms for No. 3 duties.

Jets signed No. 213 overall pick QB Tajh Boyd to a four-year contract.

Boyd was at one time viewed as a future top-10 pick, but eventually revealed himself as an inconsistent project. Lacking ideal size (6-foot-1, 222 pounds), Boyd has major accuracy issues due to poor mechanics. He was a bonafide playmaker at Clemson, but was also surrounded by bonafide playmakers. His ceiling is that of a No. 2 quarterback. He'll compete for No. 3 duties as a rookie.

Jets selected Clemson QB Tajh Boyd with the No. 213 overall pick in the NFL draft.

Boyd (6-foot 3/4, 222) was viewed as a potential top-ten pick as recently as the 2013 offseason, but his flaws were exposed as NFL evaluators began to study Boyd closely on film. His playmaking ability, athleticism, arm strength, and ability to deliver from various arm angles are obvious. Boyd's ball placement is startlingly inconsistent, however, and his mechanics will have to be re-taught from scratch. We'd post Boyd's college stats here, but they're virtually irrelevant after being surrounded by Sammy Watkins, DeAndre Hopkins, Martavis Bryant, and Dwayne Allen. He's a big project whose accuracy flaws may never be fixed. He'll compete with Matt Simms for third-string duties as a rookie, behind Geno Smith and Michael Vick.

Clemson QB Tajh Boyd clocked unofficial forty times of 4.75 and 4.84 at the NFL Combine.

Boyd was a better college rusher than these times indicate, primarily due to his agility and power in finishing runs. He was a fantastic short-yardage runner. Boyd's speed is not will have the biggest impact on his draft stock, however. His ball placement as a passer is highly inconsistent on film. He's going to be drafted in the mid to late rounds as a backup.

Clemson QB Tajh Boyd will throw at the Combine.

A likely day-three pick, Boyd has nothing to lose. There's already an endless amount of bad film for NFL teams to pore over. Boyd is a developmental prospect.

The Charlotte Observer suggests Clemson's Tajh Boyd as a mid- to late-round target for the Panthers.

Panthers scouts reportedly wanted to draft Russell Wilson as a "mini-Cam (Newton)" two years ago, but "didn't want to invest a mid-round pick on him." Boyd could be a belated fallback plan with dual-threat talents and a big arm, albeit with mechanical, accuracy, and consistency flaws. ESPN's Mel Kiper recently projected Boyd as a fifth- to sixth-round pick and as an NFL backup.

Clemson QB Tajh Boyd says the Raiders have shown more interest in him than any team at this week's Senior Bowl.

It'd certainly be an interesting fit. Boyd is a projected second- to early third-day draft choice with a big arm and plus athleticism. The Raiders dabbled with the read-option when Terrelle Pryor played in 2013. Knocks against Boyd include his accuracy and size, as he measured in at 6-foot 3/4 and 222 pounds Monday. Reports out of Mobile indicate Boyd has struggled in practice.
