Bears waived QB David Fales.

The Bears are comfortable moving forward with just Jimmy Clausen behind shaky starter Jay Cutler. A 2014 sixth rounder, Fales will presumably be stashed on the practice squad.

Reserve Bears QB David Fales underwent "minor" shoulder surgery, but is already back to 100 percent.

The 2014 sixth-rounder spent the vast majority of his rookie year on the practice squad. With the Bears' quarterback situation amongst the league's worst, it's possible they'll elect to keep three QBs, and by extension Fales.

Bears promoted QB David Fales from the practice squad.

The Patriots reportedly made an offer to Fales, so the Bears had to add him to their roster. Fales will be the No. 3 quarterback behind Jay Cutler and Jimmy Clausen.

Bears waived QB David Fales and released CB Kelvin Hayden and FB Tony Fiammetta.

Fales (shoulder) and Fiammetta (hamstring) had already been ruled out for Week 2. Hayden was a healthy scratch Week 1. With Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery both questionable, these moves should allow the Bears to add another wide receiver.

Bears declared QB David Fales, LB Khaseem Greene, DE David Bass, DE Cornelius Washington, OT Charles Leno, CB Kelvin Hayden and FB Tony Fiammetta inactive for Sunday's opener against the Bills.

The Bears don't have any major injuries going into Week 1. Jimmy Clausen will back up Jay Cutler.

Bears signed sixth-round QB David Fales to a four-year contract.

Fales was the 183rd pick on Saturday. The San Jose State product doesn't have a big arm but is a quick decision-maker and excels in the short-to-intermediate passing game. He should challenge for No 2 duties right out of the chute.

Bears selected San Jose State QB David Fales with the No. 183 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft.

Fales (6-foot-1 5/8, 212) spent two seasons with the Spartans after transferring from community college, posting a 17-8 record, 66:22 TD-to-INT ratio, and 68.1 completion rate across 25 starts. Fairly old for a rookie, he'll turn 24 in October. A quick, decisive, rhythm-and-timing passer with plus pocket presence, Fales' strength is accuracy in the short to intermediate sections. ESPN's Trent Dilfer has called Fales "identical" to former Chiefs QB Trent Green, though he lacks arm strength to consistently drive the ball vertically. Ultimately, Fales' likeliest projection is a high-end NFL backup to low-end starter. He has a fairly clear path to No. 2 duties for quarterback whisperer Marc Trestman, having to beat out only Jordan Palmer.

49ers coach Jim Harbaugh believes San Jose State QB David Fales is among the top-five quarterbacks in the 2014 NFL Draft.

"I’m a big fan," said Harbaugh. "I think he sees the field. I think he throws the ball downfield....He’s got a real savviness about the position." Fales has a lot of traits NFL teams covet, but he is an undersized prospect with a below-average arm and sub-par athleticism. He figures to max out as an NFL backup.
Sat, Apr 26, 2014 11:59:00 AM's Gil Brandt projects San Jose State QB David Fales as a seventh-round pick to priority undrafted free agent.

The draftnik community was projecting Fales as a possible 2014 first-rounder as recently as last offseason, but he is an undersized (6-foot-1 3/4, 210) prospect without a strong arm and figures to max out as an NFL backup. We do admire Fales' quick release and ability to stand tall in the pocket amid pressure, but he is ultimately a limited talent with sub-par athleticism.

San Jose State QB David Fales clocked unofficial forty times of 4.94 and 5.03 at the NFL Combine.

Fales isn't a plus athlete like Andy Dalton, but his passing skill set is similar as a timing-and-rhythm thrower who lacks a big arm. Fales has a chance to enter the day-two conversation, but is going to be drafted as a clear backup.

San Jose State QB David Fales will throw at the Combine.

Fales is the kind of prospect who would be crazy not to do all he could at the Combine. A likely day-three selection, Fales has much more to gain than lose. Fales is accurate and patient in the pocket, but faces major questions about his arm strength at the NFL level.
