Raiders hired Jack Del Rio as head coach.
Del Rio is coming home. The 51-year-old grew up in California as a Raiders fan and went to college at USC. The Raiders seemed to favor experience in their coaching search, and Del Rio has plenty of it. He was the Jaguars' head coach from 2003-2011, leading Jacksonville to two double-digit-win seasons and a playoff win over the Steelers in 2007. He has a tall task at hand with the Raiders. Del Rio has a defensive background, and will have an uber-talented pass rusher in Khalil Mack whom he'll build around. Del Rio is said to be recruiting Marc Trestman to run the Raiders' offense. Ex-Falcons coach Mike Smith is expected to be the DC. Jan 14 - 4:09 PM

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports the Raiders are expected to name Broncos DC Jack Del Rio their new head coach on Wednesday.

Raiders brass came to a decision Tuesday night. There were reports owner Mark Davis wanted Del Rio to be the new coach, while GM Reggie McKenzie wanted to ride it out with Tony Sparano for another season. Davis always wins in that situation. Del Rio is from Southern California and has previous HC experience.

The Raiders will meet with Broncos DC Jack Del Rio for a second interview regarding their head-coaching vacancy.

Many consider Del Rio the favorite for the Raiders' gig, as he's already met with owner Mark Davis, GM Reggie McKenzie and advisor John Madden. Prior to heading up the Broncos' defense, Del Rio spent eight-plus seasons as head coach of the Jaguars. He went 68-71 with zero division titles and two playoff appearances. Del Rio's visit with the Raiders is scheduled for Tuesday.

Owner Mark Davis interviewed Broncos DC Jack Del Rio for the Raiders' head-coaching vacancy over the weekend.

Perhaps most notably, current Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie is believed to have not accompanied Davis on the trip. It may be an indication that Davis willing to hand over football operations in addition to head-coaching duties if Oakland can land Del Rio. McKenzie has an 11-37 record in three years as Raiders GM.

The Raiders have requested permission to interview Broncos DC Jack Del Rio.

With the Broncos returning to work Sunday, the Raiders will try to get the interview in on Saturday. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Monday Del Rio would draw "significant interest" from the Raiders, and ESPN Raiders reporter Bill Williamson believes Del Rio is the "favorite" for the job. Del Rio has overseen a dominant defense the last three seasons in Denver, but had a mostly-rough go in eight and a half years as the Jaguars' head coach.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Broncos DC Jack Del Rio is expected to draw "significant interest" from the Raiders for their head-coaching vacancy.

ESPN's Bill Williamson believes Del Rio is the "favorite" to replace Dennis Allen, who was fired in October. It wouldn't be an enthusiastically-received hire, but perhaps as good as the dysfunctional Raiders could do. Del Rio went 68-71 in eight and a half years as the Jaguars' head man, making the playoffs twice. He's done a splendid job as the Broncos' defensive coordinator.

Broncos re-signed DC Jack Del Rio to a two-year contract.

Del Rio ran one of the best run defenses in the league in 2013 despite several injuries, and posted a 3-1 record as interim head coach during HC John Fox's recovery from heart surgery. The deal will keep Del Rio in Denver for at least another year, but he has already been linked with several head coaching gigs during his time in Denver and figures to field more offers next offseason. Either way, this is a positive move for the Broncos' chances of making another Super Bowl run in 2014.
