Seahawks worked out free agent TE Visanthe Shiancoe on Monday.
Shiancoe was cut by the Patriots last week in favor of Michael Hoomanawanui and Daniel Fells. The 32-year-old played in four games this season but failed to register on the stat sheet. Seattle is just updating their emergency list. Mon, Dec 17, 2012 08:12:00 PM

Patriots waived TE Visanthe Shiancoe.

The Pats valued Shiancoe enough to stash him on injured reserve's designated for return list early this season, but not enough to keep him around for the stretch run. Rookie speedster Jeff Demps may have been a better use of the designation. Shiancoe has played just 59 snaps all season. Rob Gronkowski was given a 4-8 week timetable to return after undergoing surgery. It's been nearly four weeks.

Visanthe Shiancoe played on 26-of-61 offensive snaps in the Patriots' Week 11 blowout of the Colts.

Shiancoe didn't record a catch or target. Even though his snaps figure to rise thanks to Rob Gronkowski's forearm injury, there's not much upside here. Aaron Hernandez (ankle) is expected back on Thanksgiving, Daniel Fells is a strong blocker and Julian Edelman will pick up Gronk's inside targets. Desperate owners need to look elsewhere.

Patriots activated TE Visanthe Shiancoe (hamstring) from injured reserve designated for return.

Shiancoe was eligible to return in Week 9, and New England had up until this upcoming Tuesday to make a decision on him. The activation could be a sign that Aaron Hernandez's (ankle) status for Sunday's game may be in question, but we haven't seen anything to dictate that at this point. Shiancoe has no fantasy value.

Patriots TE Visanthe Shiancoe (hamstring, designated for return) has returned to practice.

Shiancoe is eligible to return from injured reserve after Week 8. He could be available to play next week, though that's far from a certainty. Shiancoe has no fantasy value behind Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez.

Patriots assigned TE Visanthe Shiancoe (hamstring) the "designated for return" tag on injured reserve.

Shiancoe has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since the early days of camp. Players who are designated for return must spend at least six weeks on injured reserve. The move comes on the same day New England signed TE Michael Hoomanawanui. There's no guarantee Shiancoe plays a snap for the Pats this season.

Patriots TE Visanthe Shiancoe has missed the "last several weeks" with an undisclosed injury.

He's looking doubtful for Friday's preseason game. With Daniel Fells (leg) rounding back to health, Shiancoe's roster spot is likely in grave danger, though the Pats gave him $400,000 guaranteed. If Shiancoe manages to make the team, he'll be off the fantasy radar behind Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez.

Patriots signed TE Visanthe Shiancoe to a one-year, $1.2 million contract.

Profootballtalk reports Shiancoe will receive $400,000 guaranteed and can make another $800,000 in incentives, typical of a veteran signing just prior to training camp. The addition of Shiancoe suggests the Patriots aren't counting on Daniel Fells (leg) to contribute any time soon. The Eagles, lacking veteran depth at the position, had also offered Shiancoe a contract. Don't look for fantasy value behind Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez in New England.

Free agent TE Visanthe Shiancoe has opted against signing with the Eagles.

The inference is that Shiancoe has chosen the Patriots, though we've yet to see confirmation. Both teams had offered the 32-year-old a contract as of Tuesday afternoon.

Free agent TE Visanthe Shiancoe is negotiating with both the Eagles and the Patriots after visiting both teams.

Shiancoe doesn't fill more than a need for veteran depth in either locale, so he shouldn't expect much up-front money. He's expected to finalize a deal by Tuesday night. Shiancoe turned down a $1.2 million offer from the Seahawks earlier in the offseason.

Free agent TE Visanthe Shiancoe will visit the Eagles on Tuesday.

The visit will come five days after Shiancoe left New England without a contract. Shiancoe is on the wrong side of 30 and showed signs of decline for the Vikings last season, but shouldn't remain unsigned too deep into training camp season.

The Patriots will host free agent TE Visanthe Shiancoe on Thursday.

Shiancoe would compete for New England's No. 3 tight end job behind Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. The 32-year-old turned down a one-year, $1.2 million offer from Seattle earlier this offseason. We suspect Shiancoe won't be offered much more by the Patriots, who are obviously deep at the position.

Free agent TE Visanthe Shiancoe reportedly turned down a one-year, $1.2 million offer from the Seahawks.

The Seahawks looked like a perfect fit, so Shiancoe may be overvaluing his worth. Seattle has since moved on, trading for Kellen Winslow last month. We haven't heard of any other teams showing interest in the 32-year-old Shiancoe.

The Seahawks hosted free agent Visanthe Shiancoe at team headquarters Monday.

The visit had been expected for several days. Shiancoe knows Seahawks OC Darrell Bevell from their Minnesota days, and is a natural fit as Seattle's No. 2 tight end behind Zach Miller. We'd be surprised if this union didn't happen.

NFL Network's Steve Wyche reports free agent TE Visanthe Shiancoe will visit the Seahawks "within the next few days."

Shiancoe could follow Tarvaris Jackson and Sidney Rice to "Vikings West" under former coordinator Darrell Bevell. The Seahawks wanted John Carlson back to run two-tight end sets with Zach Miller. That could end up Shiancoe's role instead.
