Steelers LE Stephon Tuitt underwent offseason hand surgery and is not practicing at OTAs.
Tuitt should be fine by camp, but the Steelers have no reason to push the budding star. Tuitt was PFF's No. 9-ranked 3-4 end last season, receiving elite marks in both run defense and pass rush. With one year left on his rookie deal, the Steelers are expected to begin discussing an extension with Tuitt. May 24 - 1:05 PM

The Steelers are expected to approach contract-year LE Stephon Tuitt about an extension.

Tuitt has amassed 10.5 sacks over the past two seasons while stamping out running games, and should be viewed as a long-term building block in Pittsburgh. The 46th overall pick in the 2014 draft, Tuitt is not yet 24 years old. Tuitt's agent should target a four-year extension that allows him to cash in twice with big signing bonuses, hitting the market again before the age of 30.

Steelers DE Stephon Tuitt (knee) was not listed on the final injury report.

Tuitt is ready to go after sitting out the final two games of the regular season with a knee injury. A force when healthy, Tuitt's return is a big boost to the Steelers' playoff push.

Steelers DE Stephon Tuitt (knee) said he will play in the Wild Card round.

Tuitt has not played since Week 15, but he is confident about returning for the playoffs. "I'm playing this week," Tuitt said. "I'm not worried about it." Tuitt is the Steelers' best defensive linemen with Cameron Heyward on injured reserve. His return will be a big boost to Pittsburgh's chances.
Jan 2 - 12:30 PM

Steelers DE Stephon Tuitt (knee) has been ruled out for Week 17.

Tuitt has not played since leaving the Week 15 matchup against the Bengals three plays into the game. The Steelers' best defensive lineman with Cameron Heyward on the shelf, Tuitt returning for the playoffs would be a big boost to Pittsburgh's chances of a deep run, but he is at best questionable for the Wild Card round.

Steelers DE Stephon Tuitt exited Week 15 against the Steelers with a right knee injury.

Tuitt fell awkwardly after committing a facemask on Andy Dalton on the third play of the game. He limped off to get his leg checked on the sidelines before heading to the locker room. He is questionable to return.

Steelers LE Stephon Tuitt exited the team's third preseason game with an apparent left leg injury.

He has been ruled out for the rest of the game. Shamarko Thomas slammed into Tuitt's left leg on a second-quarter run by Eddie Lacy. Tuitt was able to limp off under his own power, but he ended up riding the cart into the locker room. Tuitt had a tackle for loss before leaving.

Stephon Tuitt is expected to return as the Steelers’ starting left end.

Tuitt finished 2014 in an every-down role opposite Cameron Heyward, starting the final four games. He struggled as a five technique against the run and had negative pass-rush grades by PFF. Despite Tuitt's overall sub-par rookie play, the Steelers remain committed to last year's second-round pick.

Steelers rookie DE Stephon Tuitt will start his first NFL game against the Texans on Monday night.

Starting DE Cam Thomas will move to nose with Steve McLendon (shoulder) sidelined, giving Tuitt the start in Thomas' place. Tuitt has one sack in 67 defensive snaps this season.

Steelers rookie DE Stephon Tuitt could earn a starting role by Week 1.

"It's just a matter of time," defensive line coach John Mitchell said. "He has all the tools. He needs to play. Like all rookies, they got to play." Tuitt saw some first-team reps last week, and will likely start the Steelers' preseason opener. Tuitt is an ideal fit at end in Pittsburgh's 3-4 scheme, and would bring some much needed youth the Steelers' front seven. Starter or not, Tuitt will play a big role this season.

Steelers signed second-round DE Stephon Tuitt to a four-year contract.

In need of a youth infusion up front, the Steelers took wildly athletic LB Ryan Shazier in Round 1 and 21-year-old Tuitt in Round 2. An ideal fit at end in the 3-4, Tuitt's power and long arms will help occupy blockers and free up teammates to make plays. There are now just seven unsigned rookies left in the entire NFL.

Steelers selected Notre Dame DE Stephon Tuitt with the No. 46 overall pick in the 2014 draft.

Tuitt (6-foot-5, 299) arrived in South Bend as a five-star recruit and made 28 starts, tallying 25 career tackles for loss, 21.5 sacks, and four forced fumbles. As a 19-year-old true sophomore in 2012, Tuitt registered 13 TFLs, 12 sacks, and 3 FFs. A 21-year-old NFL rookie, Tuitt is a long-armed (34 3/4") five technique who's still learning how to play. His effort was inconsistent, particularly as a junior in 2013, and he looked stiffer than ever on tape last season after gaining too much bad weight. He slimmed down during the pre-draft phase and offers a very high ceiling. The Steelers, who used their first-round pick on "Mack" ILB Ryan Shazier, continue to get a much-needed youth infusion in their front seven.

One scout told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that Notre Dame DE Stephon Tuitt and Falcons DE Tyson Jackson are the "same guy."

"That's all he is," the scout added. "Big dude. Zero pass rush." Opinions vary on Tuitt. Another scout called him "athletic for a big man" but questioned his effort by saying "he just kind of wallows around." A third scout said Tuitt plays too "stiff" and "is not elite." 6-foot-6, 300-pound Tuitt projects as a 3-4 end like Jackson, but has more pass-rush upside and will likely be a top-50 pick.

Notre Dame DE Stephon Tuitt will not participate in Combine drills due to a "Jones" fracture in his left foot.

The injury was revealed during a Combine scan. Tuitt is expected to undergo foot surgery "in about a week," with a recovery timetable of 6-8 weeks. NFL Network's Bucky Brooks ranks Tuitt as this year's No. 2 defensive end, behind only Jadeveon Clowney. Tuitt still may schedule a pre-draft Pro Day sometime in late April or early May. He is a projected top-50 overall prospect.
