Steelers signed second-round DE Stephon Tuitt to a four-year contract.
In need of a youth infusion up front, the Steelers took wildly athletic LB Ryan Shazier in Round 1 and 21-year-old Tuitt in Round 2. An ideal fit at end in the 3-4, Tuitt's power and long arms will help occupy blockers and free up teammates to make plays. There are now just seven unsigned rookies left in the entire NFL. Steelers selected Notre Dame DE Stephon Tuitt with the No. 46 overall pick in the 2014 draft.

Tuitt (6-foot-5, 299) arrived in South Bend as a five-star recruit and made 28 starts, tallying 25 career tackles for loss, 21.5 sacks, and four forced fumbles. As a 19-year-old true sophomore in 2012, Tuitt registered 13 TFLs, 12 sacks, and 3 FFs. A 21-year-old NFL rookie, Tuitt is a long-armed (34 3/4") five technique who's still learning how to play. His effort was inconsistent, particularly as a junior in 2013, and he looked stiffer than ever on tape last season after gaining too much bad weight. He slimmed down during the pre-draft phase and offers a very high ceiling. The Steelers, who used their first-round pick on "Mack" ILB Ryan Shazier, continue to get a much-needed youth infusion in their front seven.

One scout told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that Notre Dame DE Stephon Tuitt and Falcons DE Tyson Jackson are the "same guy."

"That's all he is," the scout added. "Big dude. Zero pass rush." Opinions vary on Tuitt. Another scout called him "athletic for a big man" but questioned his effort by saying "he just kind of wallows around." A third scout said Tuitt plays too "stiff" and "is not elite." 6-foot-6, 300-pound Tuitt projects as a 3-4 end like Jackson, but has more pass-rush upside and will likely be a top-50 pick.

Notre Dame DE Stephon Tuitt will not participate in Combine drills due to a "Jones" fracture in his left foot.

The injury was revealed during a Combine scan. Tuitt is expected to undergo foot surgery "in about a week," with a recovery timetable of 6-8 weeks. NFL Network's Bucky Brooks ranks Tuitt as this year's No. 2 defensive end, behind only Jadeveon Clowney. Tuitt still may schedule a pre-draft Pro Day sometime in late April or early May. He is a projected top-50 overall prospect.

Notre Dame DE Stephon Tuitt has shed 25 pounds since the end of the college season, training at IMG Academy.

A projected first- or second-round pick, Tuitt played his final college season at around 325 pounds. He currently weighs "a little over 300." Tuitt registered 12 sacks in 2012 and 7.5 last year for the Fighting Irish. He blames the dip in sacks on increased weight brought on by a sports hernia surgery that affected Tuitt's conditioning. At 6-foot-6, 300, Tuitt is a 3-4 defensive end prospect.
