In a story for Sports Illustrated, ex-Redskins RB Clinton Portis admitted he was ready to murder one of his former financial advisers whom Portis claims is responsible for losing millions of his dollars.
Portis made over $43 million in his nine-year career, but he has lost nearly all of it. Some of it was his own fault, but Portis also fell victim to a Ponzi scheme and filed for bankruptcy in 2015. He recalls several dark nights where he would sit in his car outside an office building with a gun hoping to see the man who he trusted with his money walk out, so that Portis could kill him. "It wasn’t no beat up," he says. "It was kill." A friend talked Portis out of the situation, and Portis now lives in Virginia and does some TV work for the Skins. The story is a fascinating read and perhaps a cautionary tale for players. It can be accessed at the link below. Wed, Jun 28, 2017 02:30:00 PM

Ex-Redskins RB Clinton Portis will announce his retirement at a press conference on Thursday.

Portis was reportedly intent on returning to play this season after going unsigned in 2011, but he never received serious interest. Turning 32 in two weeks, Portis' explosion had evaporated by the 2009 season due to heavy workloads and an assortment of leg injuries. A colorful two-time Pro Bowler who often dressed in costume and created characters such as Southeast Jerome and Coach Janky Spanky, Portis finishes his career 27th on the all-time rushing list with 9,923 yards. In addition to earning 2002 offensive rookie of the year honors, Portis also boasts five top-10 fantasy seasons.

Free agent Clinton Portis says he's not officially retired just yet, but is "cool" with the idea of not playing again.

"I feel great, man. We’ll see what happens," said Portis, 30. "Being away for so long, who knows? I think I’m cool with the idea of either — if I get another opportunity or if not — to move on in life. ... I think I’m enjoying where I’m at right now." If this is it for Portis, he'll finish a nine-year career with 9,923 rushing yards. He was a top-eight fantasy back five times.
Wed, Jun 20, 2012 01:31:00 PM reports free agent Clinton Portis has two upcoming visits scheduled, and has been contacted by four teams since the beginning of free agency.

The report doesn't name any of the teams, and it's unclear why clubs would wait until the beginning of free agency to contact Portis when he could have been freely signed since February 2011. Portis appeared near the end as he struggled through injury and ineffectiveness in 2009 and 2010, and will turn 31 in September. He's likely played his final NFL down.

Free agent Clinton Portis is intent on returning to the NFL after sitting out last season.

Portis has been medically cleared by private doctors after battling concussions and an assortment of leg injuries that limited him to eight games in 2009 and five in 2010. His agent claims a "handful" of teams have already shown interest, however tepid that may be. With evaporated playmaking ability, Portis won't offer more than pass blocking and perhaps short-yardage prowess at age 31.

Bengals worked out free agent RBs Clinton Portis and Larry Johnson on Tuesday.

According to NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora, Portis has already taken a physical and could be signed for depth with Cedric Benson facing a three-game suspension. He wouldn't see much playing time behind Bernard Scott and Brian Leonard.

NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora hears that free agent Clinton Portis had a "strong" workout for the Titans on Tuesday.

"Ran well and could be signed in next week or so," says LaCanfora. We'd advise skepticism, as the report could be agent-driven. The Titans are "monitoring" Javon Ringer's back this week. Portis would only be signed as backup insurance if Ringer's back tightens up again.

The Titans will work out free agent Clinton Portis on Tuesday.

Since mid-August, Portis has worked out for the Patriots, Dolphins, and Seahawks, and has yet to sign. Tennessee is healthy in the backfield, so this may just be a workout to update the team's "emergency list." Portis turned 30 earlier this month. He's only a blitz-protection specialist at this point in his career. Also working out for the Titans: Aaron Brown, Chase Reynolds, Javarris Williams, and Lonyae Miller.

The Seahawks will work out free agent Clinton Portis this week.

NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reports that no signing is imminent, but we wonder if the workout indicates concern with Marshawn Lynch's ankle injury. Lynch has been sidelined since last week and is already ruled out for the preseason finale. Portis is no more than a blitz-pickup specialist at this point.

Free agent RB Clinton Portis has reportedly informed teams he is willing to pay his own way to fly to workouts.

Portis' desire to play football obviously remains strong, but apparently not to the point that he stayed in NFL shape during the lockout. Two weeks shy of his 30th birthday, Portis' chances of landing a job before the regular season do not seem particularly high.

Free agent RB Clinton Portis worked out for the Dolphins Tuesday, a source tells

The Dolphins are likely just kicking the tires to see Portis' conditioning level. Reports out of Boston last week indicated Portis showed up to his Patriots workout out of shape. Although Daniel Thomas has been a disappointment this preseason, he's obviously not losing his job to a broken down Portis.

Free agent Clinton Portis reportedly showed up "incredibly out of shape" to his Friday workout with the Patriots.

Portis reportedly shed 25 pounds in two weeks leading up to the workout, so it sounds like he's been sitting on the couch all weekend. He "wasn't fit at all," according to the Boston Globe. Portis won't be signing anywhere soon.

The Patriots worked out free agent Clinton Portis on Friday.

New England continues to update its street free agent list. Portis, who turns 30 in two weeks, has generated zero interest on the open market to this point. He finished last season with 227 yards on 54 carries in Washington. The Patriots already have a loaded backfield, so we wouldn't expect a signing soon.

ESPN's Adam Schefter hasn't heard of any interest in free agent RB Clinton Portis.

No surprise here. The market for running backs with tread left on their tires has been dry. So you know that a guy like Portis who turns 30 in September and has 2,230 career carries is going to struggle to find a home. Portis will need more training camp injuries to get a look.

Free agent Clinton Portis' first choice is to play for the Giants this year.

He originally wanted to play for the Saints, but realizes that's a pipe dream after the Mark Ingram selection. Portis cited the Giants' offensive line and a run-oriented philosophy while also making it clear that a priority is "a quarterback who had the opportunity to really run his system." Portis listed Michael Vick, Peyton Manning, and Tom Brady as other signal-callers he'd like to join. We're not confident that the 29-year-old will land a guaranteed contract this summer.
