Cowboys are working out free agent OG Xavier Su'a-Filo.

Dallas just acquired OG Parker Ehinger in a trade, but he reportedly picked up an injury during Wednesday's practice. Su'a-Filo has struggled throughout his career, but he would at least offer experience.

Titans released OG Xavier Su'a-Filo.

Signed in March, Su'a-Filo handled left guard for the Texans the last two seasons, but he was one of the worst starters in the league. Still, the former second-rounder has a good chance to latch on as an experienced backup somewhere else.

Titans signed OG Xavier Su'a-Filo, formerly of the Texans.

Su'a-Filo was the Texans' starting left guard the past two seasons, though he was a major liability. He will be reuniting with Mike Vrabel in Tennessee but as a reserve. He joins recent signee Kevin Pamphile as another depth option behind Quinton Spain and Josh Kline.

Texans LG Xavier Su'a-Filo is the "front-runner" for the starting job.

Su'a-Filo started the final nine games including the playoffs at left guard last season. He struggled in pass protection over that stretch, but coach Bill O'Brien said he "has definitely improved" over the offseason. Su'a-Filo's strongest competition will likely come from free-agent addition Tony Bergstrom.

Texans coach Bill O'Brien said LG Xavier Su'a-Filo "has definitely improved."

"He’s in better shape. He understands our system better," O'Brien said. "The key for linemen on both sides of the ball is when the pads go on ... but to this point, in the unpadded practices, he has made a lot of improvement." Su'a-Filo started the final nine games including the playoffs at left guard last season. He will have to beat out Tony Bergstrom for the job this year.

There is a "strong chance" Xavier Su'a-Filo opens the season as the Texans' starting left guard.

With Ben Jones replacing Chris Myers at center, the left guard job is Su'a-Filo's to lose. A second-round pick out of UCLA, Su'a-Filo played 130 underwhelming snaps as a rookie including a start at right guard against Indianapolis, but the Texans are hoping he can make a big jump in his sophomore campaign. If he can, the Texans' offensive line should remain an elite run-blocking unit.

Xavier Su'a-Filo is the leading candidate for the Texans' left guard job.

Su'a-Filo appeared in 13 games as a rookie, making his only start at right guard. He's expected to take over for Ben Jones on the left side, with Jones replacing Chris Myers at center. Houston should remain an elite run-blocking team in 2015.

Texans signed second-round G/T Xavier Su'a-Filo to a four-year contract.

The No. 33 overall pick last month, Su'a-Filo is expected to step in right away at left guard. He's replacing longtime veteran Wade Smith. Su'a-Filo has quick feet, long arms, and a nastiness to him that should help him immediately both as a run blocker and pass protector. The Texans' line is a definite strength.

The Houston Chronicle expects No. 33 overall pick G/T Xavier Su'a-Filo to compete for the starting job at left guard.

The top pick in the second round, Su'a-Filo would likely have to fall flat on his face to not be in the Week 1 starting lineup. He brings a mean streak and projects as a pro-ready pass protector. Ben Jones and David Quessenberry will be Su'a-Filo's main competition. The Texans' line from left to right reads: LT Duane Brown, Su'a-Filo, C Chris Myers, RG Brandon Brooks, RT Derek Newton. Brennan Williams could challenge Newton.

Texans selected UCLA G/T Xavier Su'a-Filo with the No. 33 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft.

Su'a-Filo (6-foot-4, 307) started at left tackle as an 18-year-old true freshman for the Bruins, before taking a two-year Mormon mission. He returned to make 27 more starts, 21 at left guard and six at left tackle. In 2013, Su'a-Filo earned the Morris Trophy as the top lineman in the Pac 12. An adequate athlete (5.04 forty, 25-inch vertical) with better arm length (33 3/8") for guard than tackle, Su'a-Filo projects as a pro-ready pass protector with quick feet and nastiness to his game, but he needs to get stronger in the upper body to become a drive-blocking force. He'll likely start at left guard immediately in Houston, opposite RG Brandon Brooks with Duane Brown and Derek Newton at the tackles, and Chris Myers at center. It's a rock-solid line.

UCLA OG Xavier Su'a-Filo ran an official forty time of 5.04 at the NFL Scouting Combine.

It's the second fastest forty time among guards, and he led all interior linemen in the 20-yard shuttle. Su'a-Filo has quality arm length for a guard (33 3/8"). He managed just 25 bench press reps, but is considered an effective pass blocker. He projects as a fringe first-round pick. Su'a-Filo is pushing Stanford's David Yankey to be the first guard selected in May.
