Coach Chuck Pagano announced Donte Moncrief will miss 4-6 weeks with a fractured scapula.
This is a bit worse than initially feared, but at least it isn't a season-ender. Moncrief won't need surgery, only rest. In his absence, the Colts will turn to 2015 first-rounder Phillip Dorsett as an every-down player in two-wide sets, with UDFA Chester Rogers taking over as the No. 3 receiver. Moncrief was the lone Colts receiver with some size, so this could lead to more scoring chances for TEs Dwayne Allen and Jack Doyle. Allen is entrenched as a TE1 while Moncrief is out. The Colts are awaiting further test results on Donte Moncrief's shoulder.

The Indianapolis Star senses it's a matter of how many, not "if," when it comes to the number of games Moncrief will miss. Reporter Stephen Holder does believe the issue is not "season ending." Moncrief has yet to be formally ruled out for Week 3, so there's really not much to go on for the time being.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Donte Moncrief will have an MRI on his shoulder Monday.

Moncrief took a big hit from T.J. Ward in the second quarter of the Week 2 loss and never returned. Moncrief was thought to be dealing with a concussion initially, but a shoulder injury makes more sense considering he was allowed back on the sidelines during the game. If he is forced to miss any time, Phillip Dorsett would become a must-start option.

Donte Moncrief is being evaluated for a concussion after leaving Sunday's Week 2 game against the Broncos.

He returned to the sidelines without a helmet or a jersey so it doesn't look like he's coming back in. Moncrief took a big hit from T.J. Ward on a second-quarter incompletion. He caught one-of-three targets for nine yards before exiting. His absence will open up more looks for T.Y. Hilton and Phillip Dorsett.
Sep 18 - 5:13 PM

Donte Moncrief caught 6-of-7 targets for 64 yards and a touchdown in the Colts' Week 1 loss to the Lions.

His seven targets finished second on the Colts behind T.Y. Hilton's 12. As expected, Moncrief ran more possession routes than Hilton and was employed as a chain-mover in the air. Moncrief still has an outside chance to lead Indianapolis in receptions this season. He will be a WR2/3 against Denver in Week 2.
Sep 11 - 8:35 PM

Donte Moncrief caught 6-of-7 targets for 58 yards in the Colts' third preseason game.

His lone missed target came on a miscommunication in the end zone with Scott Tolzien. Crief was on point with Andrew Luck, catching five balls for 52 yards in the first half alone. Crief's best catch came on a deep ball from Luck, gaining 26 yards. Moncrief is primed for third-year liftoff in Indy.
Aug 27 - 10:11 PM

ESPN Colts reporter Mike Wells said "it won't be surprising" if Donte Moncrief leads the team in receptions.

Wells said the same thing in July, and nothing he has seen in training camp has changed his mind. Wells expects Moncrief to occupy more of a possession role this season and be the player Andrew Luck looks to when the play breaks down. He should also be a factor in the red zone after catching five touchdowns in seven games with Luck last year. Moncrief is a solid pick in the fifth round.

Donte Moncrief says he is currently running a 4.35 forty-yard dash at 222 pounds.

'Crief blazed 4.40 flat at the 2014 Combine after weighing in at 6-foot-2, 221. While beat writer George Bremer says Moncrief is emerging as "something of a go-to guy in short-yardage situations," Moncrief assures he can beat defenses deep. "That's what they're sleeping on," Moncrief said. "But they'll learn soon." Bremer calls Moncrief the Colts' "likely breakout candidate" this season.
Jul 31 - 7:56 PM

Donte Moncrief said his surgically-repaired toe is at 96-97 percent.

The Colts are easing Moncrief back into action after he missed all of OTAs and minicamp while recovering from toe surgery. So far he's seen about 15 reps per day in team drills. The Colts will continue to be cautious with Moncrief but he's in no danger of missing the season opener against Detroit on September 11.
Jul 31 - 12:13 PM

ESPN Colts reporter Mike Wells believes Donte Moncrief will lead the team in receptions this season.

Moncrief only saw 11 fewer targets than T.Y. Hilton in Andrew Luck's seven starts last year and led the Colts in touchdowns (5) in those games. This may seem like a beat writer "hot take" on the surface, but it's not crazy with Moncrief a prime candidate for a third-year leap. The Colts lost 222 targets from 2015.
Jul 19 - 12:32 PM

Donte Moncrief (toe) tweeted Thursday he has resumed running routes.

Moncrief did not participate in the offseason program, but he shed his walking boot last week and has now progressed to running routes. He is fully expected to be ready for the start of training camp. With Andrew Luck back healthy, Moncrief is poised for a breakout.
Jun 18 - 12:27 PM

Donte Moncrief has shed his walking boot following offseason toe surgery.

He's sitting out OTAs, but beat writer George Bremer confirmed Moncrief is expected to be ready for training camp. Moncrief was still donning the boot a week ago at OTAs. He has breakout potential with Andrew Luck back healthy.
Jun 7 - 5:40 PM

Donte Moncrief underwent turf toe surgery earlier this offseason, but it is not considered a long-term concern.

Moncrief dealt with the issue for much of December before apparently making it worse in Week 17. We already knew Moncrief was sidelined, but the operation had not been previously disclosed. It's unideal, but it appears the Colts are just being overly cautious with their third-year wideout. Moncrief is on the breakout radar after taking a big step forward last season. He should get back to 100 percent well before training camp.
May 17 - 6:00 PM

Donte Moncrief (foot) is still not 100 percent healthy.

Moncrief suffered a setback in the season finale. The Indy Star's Stephen Holder said Moncrief "may take a little time," but the injury is not a "long-term concern." With Andrew Luck back healthy, Moncrief is primed for a breakout.
Apr 18 - 1:21 PM

Donte Moncrief suffered a setback with his toe injury in Sunday's win.

Moncrief had only one catch before exiting. He played in all 16 games and posted a 62/733/6 line despite playing through multiple injuries, finishing behind only T.Y. Hilton in targets. Moncrief was arguably the Colts best receiver this year, but his stats dropped when Matt Hasselbeck took over. He'll be one of the bigger breakout candidates with the return of Andrew Luck in 2016. Moncrief should be healthy long before the start of OTAs.
