Fowler said Shazier would need a "killer rehab week" to be cleared. Sean Spence will continue to fill in at inside linebacker if Shazier is unable to suit up.
Oct 15 - 11:27 AM

Steelers declared ILB Ryan Shazier, QB Ben Roethlisberger, CB Cortez Allen, NT Daniel McCullers, OG Chris Hubbard, OLB Anthony Chickillo, and TE Jesse James inactive for Week 5 against the Chargers.

Shazier has a shoulder injury. Big Ben remains out with his knee issue. Martavis Bryant has a knee injury and wasn't activated from the suspended list.

Ryan Shazier (shoulder) has been ruled out for Week 5 against the Chargers.

Shazier was listed as a full participant on Thursday and Friday, but he did not practice on Saturday. Shazier did not sound like a player ready to return when he said, "I'm ready to go if I have to," earlier in the week. Shazier should be considered questionable for Week 6 against the Cardinals.
Oct 10 - 1:15 PM

Steelers ILB Ryan Shazier (shoulder) returned to practice on Monday.

Shazier missed the Steelers' last two games with "weakness" in his shoulder. Shazier said after Monday's practice that he "definitely" believes he'll play in Week 4 against the Chargers. It's a big boost to the Steelers' run defense, which had trouble dealing with Justin Forsett last Thursday night.

Steelers ILB Ryan Shazier (shoulder) will not play Thursday night against the Ravens.

Coach Mike Tomlin said Shazier is still dealing with weakness in the injured shoulder. He was always a long shot on the short week. Shazier will have 11 days to get ready for San Diego on Monday night of Week 5.
Oct 1 - 9:40 AM

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said ILB Ryan Shazier is dealing with weakness in his injured shoulder.

The shoulder injury was not originally believed to be severe, but Shazier was held out of practice all week before missing the game against the Rams. With the Steelers playing on Thursday night, Shazier appears doubtful to play. His status will be updated throughout the week.
Sep 28 - 12:47 PM

Steelers ILB Ryan Shazier (shoulder) has been ruled out for Week 3 against the Rams.

Shazier's shoulder injury was initially not believed to be severe, but he didn't practice this week and was deemed out on Friday by coach Mike Tomlin. It's a significant blow to Pittsburgh's run defense, as Shazier was a playmaking machine the past two weeks, and a missile to the football. The speedy sophomore combined for a whopping 22 tackles, one sack, and a forced fumble against the Patriots and 49ers.
Sep 25 - 1:53 PM

Steelers ILB Ryan Shazier missed Wednesday's practice with a shoulder injury.

Shazier was the defensive star of the Steelers' Week 2 win over the 49ers, but he injured his shoulder on the final of his 15 recorded tackles. Coach Mike Tomlin was not worried about Shazier's status following the game, and at this point he should still be expected to play this week against the Rams. Shazier's status will be updated later in the week.
Sep 24 - 10:45 AM

New Steelers DC Keith Butler confirmed the Steelers' defense will use both the 3-4 and 4-3 in base looks.

"We’re going to have the 3-4, we’re going to have the 4-3," Butler said. "We’re going to have things that we feel will give people problems. We’re going to use our personnel to get some mismatches if we can." This change in defensive philosophy should benefit sophomore ILB Ryan Shazier, who has the speed and athleticism to thrive on the weak side of a 4-3 scheme.
Aug 18 - 10:28 AM

Steelers ILB Ryan Shazier played the entire first half in Sunday night's Hall of Fame Game against the Vikings.

The speedy Shazier was all over field, tallying four solo tackles and five total. It's a great sign for a player whose rookie year was torpedoed by knee and ankle injuries. Shazier has upside in the LB3 range of IDP drafts.
Aug 10 - 7:28 AM

Steelers second-year ILB Ryan Shazier has bulked up to 233 pounds.

That's apparently eight pounds heavier than Shazier played as a rookie. The No. 15 overall pick in last year's draft, Shazier weighed 237 at the Combine, but must have played in the low-220s. Shazier missed a bunch of time with ankle and knee injuries and is aiming to have better durability as a sophomore.
Jun 24 - 11:38 AM

Steelers ILB Ryan Shazier (knee) is expected to return for Week 14 against the Bengals.

He was expected back last week, but ended up being inactive. The time for a return appears to be now after Shazier sprained his MCL in Week 9. He missed four games earlier in the year, as well. Shazier has 26 tackles as a rookie with no forced turnovers. Sean Spence has been starting in his place.
