Per the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, "it's looking less and less" likely that Steelers ILB Ryan Shazier will play Monday night versus Houston.
It's good news for Arian Foster's matchup. The Steelers were already having a lot of trouble defending zone-blocking schemes, and new Texans coach Bill O'Brien has kept intact many of the zone-running elements from the Gary Kubiak era in Houston. Foster is Pat Daugherty's No. 2 overall running back in Week 7. Oct 17 - 3:55 PM

Steelers ILB Ryan Shazier (knee) is expected to practice in some capacity this week.

Shazier has been down with a severely sprained MCL since Week 3. We'd consider the first-round rookie very questionable for Monday night against the Texans. The Steelers host the Colts in Week 8.

Steelers declared LB Ryan Shazier (knee) inactive for Week 6 at Cleveland.

Shazier was spotted doing some on-field agility work before the game, but still looks stiff on the MCL sprain he sustained in Week 3. The rest of the Steelers inactives: WR Martavis Bryant, NT Daniel McCullers, G Chris Hubbard, QB Landy Jones, S Shamarko Thomas and CB Ike Taylor.

Steelers ILB Ryan Shazier (knee) is not expected back for Week 5.

Shazier is battling a sprained MCL suffered in Week 3. The Jags, playing at home with Blake Bortles, couldn't ask for a much better matchup this week.
Sep 30 - 12:22 PM

Steelers ILB Ryan Shazier has been diagnosed with a sprained MCL.

Shazier is undergoing an MRI Monday to determine how long he'll be out. It's a major blow to an already shaky Steelers defense, as the No. 15 overall pick gave this unit the sideline-to-sideline speed it desperately needs. Now they'll move forward without RCB Ike Taylor (arm), OLB Jarvis Jones (wrist) and Shazier. William Gay, Arthur Moats and Sean Spence are the respective backups.
Sep 22 - 9:58 AM

Steelers ILB Ryan Shazier suffered a right knee injury in Sunday night's game against the Panthers and will not return.

Shazier limped off the field and was helped to the locker room. The fact that the he was ruled out immediately isn't a good sign. Sean Spence will replace Shazier next to Lawrence Timmons.
Sep 21 - 10:24 PM

Steelers first-round ILB Ryan Shazier had 11 solo tackles and an interception while playing less than two quarters in Saturday's preseason game against the Bills.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette called it one of the more impressive debuts in recent memory. Shazier was wreaking havoc all over the field, flashing freakish athleticism with a lunging interception of E.J. Manuel and returning it 27 yards. He's locked and loaded as the starting "mack" next to "buck" Lawrence Timmons and has a ton of upside as a LB3.
Aug 18 - 7:43 AM

Defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau confirmed that first-round ILB Ryan Shazier is a starter.

Shazier has been running as the first-team weak-inside linebacker next to Lawrence Timmons ever since the first OTA of the season. "The spot's there and he has exceptional athletic ability," LeBeau said. "I think he's going to be able to make a lot of plays for us." Shazier's sideline-to-sideline speed gives him a high LB3 ceiling in IDP formats.
Aug 7 - 7:50 AM

Steelers signed No. 15 overall pick ILB Ryan Shazier to a four-year contract.

Shazier is currently ticketed for weak-inside linebacker, pushing Lawrence Timmons into more of a pre-snap movement role. A transcendent athlete, Shazier tallied a 42-inch vertical and 10-foot-10 broad jump at the Combine, before scorching a 4.38 forty at Ohio State's Pro Day. Shazier is a finesse linebacker — not a thumper — but is rangy enough to cover tailbacks and tight ends, and is a sideline-to-sideline missile in run defense. He could be an IDP stud.
Jun 5 - 5:42 PM

First-round ILB Ryan Shazier is running with the first-team defense at OTAs.

The Steelers traditionally make their rookies sit and learn before thrusting them into the starting lineup. (Their last rookie to start on defense in Week 1 was ILB Kendrell Bell in 2001.) They can no longer afford that luxury as the defense has been thinned out. The speedy Shazier will line up at weak-side inside linebacker next to Lawrence Timmons, and be expected to make an instant impact.
May 28 - 7:24 AM

The Steelers will use No. 15 overall pick Ryan Shazier at "Mack" inside linebacker, which is historically Lawrence Timmons' position.

Mack is the weak-side position. Timmons may wind up moving around more, seeing snaps at outside linebacker and perhaps even lining up with his hand in the dirt as a "movable chess piece" playmaker. The Steelers were intent on adding speed in the first round, and Shazier runs 4.38. "As the offenses continue to spread out you need speed," GM Kevin Colbert explained. "You need speed at your linebacker, you need speed at secondary, you need speed everywhere."
May 9 - 4:08 PM

Steelers selected Ohio State LB Ryan Shazier with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft.

Shazier (6-foot-1, 237) needed only three seasons in Columbus to total 44.5 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, and nine forced fumbles, with a 2013 first-team All-American berth and first-team All-Big Ten honors as both a sophomore and junior. A transcendent athlete, Shazier tallied a 42-inch vertical and 10-foot-10 broad jump at the Combine, before scorching a 4.38 forty at Ohio State's Pro Day. Shazier is a finesse linebacker -- not a thumper -- but is rangy enough to cover tailbacks and tight ends, and is a sideline-to-sideline missile in run defense. He's like a bigger, faster Derrick Brooks. Shazier should slot in next to Lawrence Timmons at inside 'backer in the Steelers' 3-4. An aging defense has gotten a much-needed youth infusion this spring.
May 8 - 9:47 PM

A source told Packer Report that Ohio State LB Ryan Shazier is unlikely to fall past the Dolphins at No. 19 overall.

Shazier has been a late riser after running a 4.37 forty at the Buckeyes' Pro Day, and recording mind-bogglingly explosive jumps of 42" in the vertical and 10-foot-10 in the broad. The Fins have been searching for linebacker help since whiffing on D'Qwell Jackson in free agency. Shazier could play either middle or weak-side 'backer in Miami, with Philip Wheeler losing his starting job.
May 7 - 9:05 PM

After watching Ohio State LB Ryan Shazier's college tape, NFL Films' Greg Cosell stated on the Ross Tucker Podcast that Shazier is an "unbelievable, sudden quick-twitch athlete."

It shows up in Shazier's measurables, as he ran in the 4.3s at Ohio State's Pro Day, with a scintillating 42-inch vertical and 10-foot-10 broad jump. "There's not a lot of guys who play linebacker who can run like this kid," Cosell said. "This kid is incredibly sudden. He's not a powerful kid, but he was willing to take on blocks when necessary." Cosell did express some concern about Shazier's read-and-react timing. We expect Shazier to be a late first-round pick. You can listen to the full Cosell-Tucker podcast at the link below.
Apr 18 - 12:07 AM

Ohio State LB Ryan Shazier clocked a sub-4.4 forty time at the Buckeyes' Pro Day.

This is in addition to Shazier's highly explosive 42-inch vertical and 10-foot-10 broad jump at the Combine. Shazier is a tick over 6-foot-1 and 237 pounds with striking and coverage skills. He's a likely top-40 draft pick.
