The New York Giants' defense will be without DE Jason Pierre-Paul (hernia) for the remainder of the season.
This development will be a blow to the Giants' pass rush that had shown improvement with 18 sacks since a Week 8 bye. JPP chipped in with 5.5 sacks in Weeks 11 and 12 before suffering the injury during the first half in Week 13, and his only hope for a potential return is if the Giants roll to the NFC Championship game. Romeo Okwara and Kerry Wynn filled-in after Pierre-Paul's departure. The Giants D/ST will not be an advisable fantasy start on Sunday night at home against Dallas. Dec 7 - 1:37 PM

The New York Giants will have DE Jason Pierre-Paul (knee) available when they take on the Cleveland Browns in Week 12.

Pierre-Paul has not practiced this week, but insisted that he will be playing in Week 12. "I'm playing on Sunday. I already said it last week. I’ll be out there Sunday," said the Giants defensive end, who had four tackles and 2.5 sacks in Week 11. The Giants D/ST will be a top-tier streaming option in Week 12 against Cleveland, who surrendered eight sacks to Pittsburgh in Week 11. The Giants D/ST is owned in 57 percent of Yahoo leagues.
Nov 26 - 12:57 PM

The New York Giants plan to use zone coverage in Week 9 to stop Philadelphia QB Carson Wentz.

This follows a trend of defenses limiting Wentz to shorter passing options in recent weeks, with the rookie completing just one pass over 30 yards in his last 230 snaps. "He's not making the average rookie mistakes that most guys make, but you definitely can disguise it a little bit and kinda get him off rhythm and bait him into throwing some [vulnerable] things," Giants CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie said. The Giants D/ST turned in a solid Week 8 performance before a Week 9 bye, and will be a mid-tier fantasy option at home against Philadelphia.
Nov 5 - 11:52 AM

Giants CB Janoris Jenkins has two interceptions, 24 tackles, and a team-high seven passes defensed in 2016.

Jenkins has played well through six games after signing a five-year, $62.5 million contract with the Giants over the offseason. The bigger picture hasn't been as bright for the Giants' defense however, as the team is last among NFL defenses in sacks and takeaways on the season after spending big money on free agent defenders. The Giants D/ST is a mid-tier fantasy option against the Rams in London this week.
Oct 20 - 12:59 PM

For the first time since 1934, the New York Giants have failed to record an interception through the first three weeks of an NFL season.

The Giants are one of two teams without an interception on the season, along with the New Orleans Saints. The Giants D/ST has turned in two sub-par performances in three weeks, and now has CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (groin) and CB Eli Apple (hamstring) nursing injuries. New York plays on Monday night in Week 4, where the Giants D/ST will be a mid-tier option at Minnesota.
Sep 28 - 10:34 PM

The New York Giants are one of three NFL teams without a takeaway through two weeks.

The Giants have been solid on the defensive side of the ball in 2016, but have failed to take the ball away from their opponent. "That's one thing we need to have start showing up in these games," linebacker Jonathan Casillas said. Washington will visit MetLife Stadium in Week 4, where the Giants D/ST will be a top-12 fantasy option at home against the Redskins.
Sep 23 - 2:17 AM

The New York Giants will face the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17 in their first game without former coach Chip Kelly.

Kelly was fired by the Eagles on Tuesday, and OC Pat Shurmur will fill-in as head coach on Sunday when Philadelphia travels to MetLife Stadium to face the Giants. It is doubtful that any significant changes will be installed in the Philadelphia offense in such a short time frame, but the Giants D/ST won't be worth starting in fantasy leagues either way in Week 17, as the group allows a league-worst 419.3 total yards per game.

The Giants will host the Carolina Panthers in Week 15, who will be playing without leading rusher Jonathan Stewart (foot).

The Panthers have ruled Stewart out for Week 15, leaving a combination of Fozzy Whittaker, Cameron Artis-Payne, and Mike Tolbert to handle the rushing duties for the NFL's second-best running team. The Giants have struggled defensively this season but have been better against the run than pass, so Carolina could opt to lean on QB Cam Newton on Sunday to keep their undefeated season alive. No matter which way the Panthers move the ball, the Giants D/ST will not be on the fantasy radar in Week 15.
Fri, Dec 18, 2015 03:57:00 AM

The New York Giants have allowed opposing passers to throw for an average of 334.7 yards per game in their past three contests.

The Giants are last in the NFL in pass defense this season, and have shown no improvement in recent weeks against the likes of Ryan Fitzpatrick and Kirk Cousins. Week 14 brings a date with Miami and QB Ryan Tannehill, who has completed just 61.4 percent of his pass attempts in 2015. The Dolphins have averaged only 254.0 total yards of offense over the last three weeks, but the struggles of the Giants D/ST prevent the group from being a startable fantasy option despite the decent matchup.

The Giants are last among NFL teams in sacks and pass defense through 11 weeks.

The issues for the Giants defense have gotten even worse over the last five weeks, as this unit has recorded just three sacks and allowed 347.0 yards per game to opposing quarterbacks in that span. The Giants D/ST is far from the fantasy radar in a "home" game against the New York Jets this week.
Thu, Dec 3, 2015 03:40:00 AM

The New York Giants are last among NFL teams in pass defense, allowing 309.9 passing yards per game.

The Giants will likely attempt to correct these issues during their Week 11 bye, but opposing passers have had their way with this secondary all season long. The Giants are allowing nearly 17 passing yards per game more than the 31st-ranked pass defense, and haven't been a relevant fantasy D/ST in 2015. Luckily, a lighter slate of opposing quarterbacks awaits the Giants after the bye, but this group will not come highly recommended in fantasy leagues.
Thu, Nov 19, 2015 01:10:00 AM

The New York Giants will host the NFL's highest scoring offense in Week 10, when the New England Patriots visit MetLife Stadium.

The high-powered New England offense has shredded NFL defenses this season, and doesn't do any favors for opposing teams with just five turnovers in 2015. As if the matchup wasn't bad enough, the Giants D/ST is dead last among NFL defenses in sacks, with just nine on the season. The lack of a formidable pass rush will make slowing Tom Brady even more difficult on Sunday and leaves the Giants D/ST well off the fantasy radar in Week 10.
Wed, Nov 11, 2015 05:32:00 AM

The New York Giants defense will look to rebound from a disastrous Week 8 performance when they travel to Tampa Bay to face the Buccaneers on Sunday.

The Giants were torched by New Orleans last week for 608 total yards, including 505 passing yards from Drew Brees. New York is now last among NFL defenses in pass defense, allowing 315.4 yards per game to opposing quarterbacks on the season. This group is also last in the NFL in sacks, which likely has contributed to the struggles in pass coverage for DC Steve Spagnuolo's defense. The Giants D/ST will not be a viable fantasy option in Week 9.
Fri, Nov 6, 2015 04:17:00 PM

The New York Giants are second among NFL defenses with 11 interceptions in 2015, including six over the last two weeks.

Matt Cassel and Sam Bradford have been the Giants' victims in recent weeks, as the Giants D/ST recorded a trio of interceptions against both quarterbacks. DC Steve Spagnuolo's group will look to keep their opportunistic secondary rolling in Week 8 against New Orleans' Drew Brees, who has thrown just four interceptions this season. The Giants D/ST will be a middling fantasy option this week on the road at New Orleans.
Sun, Nov 1, 2015 02:28:00 AM

The New York Giants will face Dallas quarterback Matt Cassel this week in his first start of the season.

Dallas has opted for Cassel over Brandon Weeden as they await the return of Tony Romo. In 30 games over the last four seasons, Cassel has thrown 30 touchdowns and 34 interceptions and likely won't be a substantial upgrade over Weeden. The Giants D/ST will be an intriguing streaming option this week at home against their division rival.
