Former Dolphins CB Will Allen was indicted on 23 federal felony counts of defrauding investors.
Allen was previously facing civil charges. Now the stakes are rising as he's looking at up to 20 years in prison on each of his six wire fraud charges. According to federal prosecutors, Allen ran a company that made high-interest, short-term loans to professional athletes. To fund the loans, he used phantom money from other investors -- aka a Ponzi scheme. This may or not be an upcoming episode of Ballers. Tue, Jul 14, 2015 12:30:00 PM

Ex-Dolphins and Giants CB Will Allen is accused of running a $31 million Ponzi scheme.

Now 36, Allen's last NFL gasp came in 2012, where he spent training camp with the Patriots. Allen and a business partner are accused of a scheme that "purported to loan money to professional athletes." Allen is likely to serve jail time.

Patriots placed CB Will Allen on injured reserve, ending his season.

Allen suited up for New England's first two preseason games, but suffered an undisclosed injury against the Bucs on Friday. This will be the second time in three seasons Allen has missed the entire year, putting his career in doubt at the age of 34.

Patriots signed CB Will Allen to a one-year contract.

The Pats also showed interest in Allen last September before he re-signed in Miami. The former Giants first-rounder ended up playing nearly 60 percent of the snaps with the Dolphins last season, recording 43 tackles. Turning 34 in August, Allen won't be guaranteed a roster spot in New England.

Dolphins re-signed CB Will Allen to a one-year contract.

Allen was released at final cuts, but the Dolphins' lack of cornerback depth was exposed Monday when both Sean Smith and Vontae Davis left with cramps. Miami doesn't have to guarantee Allen's contract anymore, and they released an ineffective Benny Sapp on Tuesday.

Free agent CB Will Allen worked out for the Patriots on Tuesday.

The Pats were likely just checking to see how much the 33-year-old has left in the tank. Former Titans nickelback Vincent Fuller was also put through a workout.

Dolphins released CB Will Allen.

Allen restructured from $5.5 million to $1.5 million before the lockout, but it still couldn't save his job. The Dolphins want to go with younger options at cornerback, though they will reportedly be open to bringing back Allen at a later date. The 33-year-old has played just six games since 2008.

The Palm Beach Post suggests that CB Will Allen's roster spot is in jeopardy.

Allen restructured his contract in February, dropping his base salary from $5.5 million to $1.5 million. That still might not be enough. He has dealt with a hamstring injury and still may be feeling the ACL tear he suffered back in Week 6 of the 2009 season. With Allen at age 33, the Dolphins have younger, healthier options.

Dolphins CB Will Allen's restructured contract dropped his 2011 base salary from $5.5 million to $1.5 million.

Allen should be thanking his agent he convinced the Fins to even allow the salary to stay above the minimum. He's appeared in six games since 2008, twice landed on I.R. with year-ending knee injuries, and turns 33 before next season. Allen may not even make the 2011 roster if Nolan Carroll comes on strong.

Dolphins CB Will Allen has restructured his contract to stay with the team.

It's a smart move by Allen, who would've struggled for suitors coming off back-to-back year-ending injuries to the same knee. Allen was previously due a $5.5 million salary in 2011. He probably needed to reduce it to the minimum.
Thu, Feb 10, 2011 09:35:00 AM

The Dolphins reportedly plan to release CB Will Allen in February.

It was a bad sign for Allen when he was placed on I.R. after a "routine" knee scope last summer. Now due $5.5 million while going on age 33, he's not worth hanging on to. Benny Sapp played most of the 2010 season in Allen's place at nickel back, and Nolan Carroll may be the future at that position.

Dolphins placed CB Will Allen (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.

It's another big blow to a secondary that's gone from one of the league's strongest down the stretch of 2009 to one of the most in flux. The Fins have major concerns about RCB Sean Smith after an awful camp, and Allen would've been the best alternative should Smith have needed to be benched. Allen, 32, had what was believed to be a routine knee scope in early August. Due a $5.5 million salary in 2011, he's likely done as a Dolphin.

Nickel back Will Allen is out until at least the Dolphins' opener after having his left knee scoped on Thursday.

The procedure is termed a "minor, cleanup" operation, but it's to the same knee in which Allen tore his ACL last year. Therefore, we wouldn't be confident about a pre-Week 1 return as Allen enters his age-32 season. Jason Allen and rookie Nolan Carroll will battle for nickel duties in the meantime.
Thu, Aug 12, 2010 05:55:00 PM

Dolphins CB Will Allen (torn ACL) has been sent to a specialist to have his troublesome knee checked out.

Not good news for someone who is 32. Allen blew out his knee last October and was progressing well before suddenly sitting out some practices this week. He's expected to serve as the Dolphins' slot corner, but if he can't rookie Nolan Carroll could be thrust into a more prominent role.
Thu, Aug 12, 2010 01:09:00 PM

The Dolphins intend to keep Will Allen at cornerback, despite speculation that he might move to free safety.

The Fins continue to work Chris Clemons as the starting free safety. Allen is expected to stay put because the Dolphins frequently employ three-corner packages. He'll be the nickel back behind Sean Smith and Vontae Davis.
