Team: Arizona Cardinals

Cardinals GM Steve Keim has been suspended five weeks and fined $200,000 by the team after pleading guilty to extreme DUI.
The team decided to get out in front of the league with its punishment. Keim should face no further discipline. The suspension is apparently starting now, and Keim will be "barred from the Cardinals’ facilities and prohibited contact from the team." It's far from ideal timing for a general manager to be away from his club, but Keim will be back before the Cardinals have to cut down from 90 to 53 players. Jul 17 - 5:36 PM

Cardinals GM Steve Keim has pleaded guilty to "extreme" DUI in Arizona.

The "extreme" designation means Keim was more than twice the legal limit of .08. He could be forced to spend a day in jail. League discipline should be handed down some time in the next few months.

Cardinals GM Steve Keim was arrested for DUI on Wednesday in Chandler, Arizona.

The arrest was made at a DUI Checkpoint on July 4. Keim was released later that night. The Cardinals are aware of the situation and have reported it to the NFL. Signed to a four-year extension this offseason, Keim's standing with the Cardinals is likely safe but he's subject to the league's substance abuse policy and should face some form of discipline. The Broncos suspended executives Tom Heckert and Matt Russell for alcohol-related arrests in 2013.

Cardinals signed GM Steve Keim to an extension through 2022.

The deal lines up Keim's contract with new coach Steve Wilks. Keim just wrapped up his fifth season as Cardinals general manager. 2018 will be his first without Bruce Arians. Keim has had a largely successful tenure, but some shaky drafts. Replacing Carson Palmer is his unenviable offseason priority.

Cardinals signed GM Steve Keim to a contract extension through 2018.

Keim was promoted to GM in January 2013 after spending 14 seasons in the Arizona front office. His first order of business was hiring coach Bruce Arians, who was also extended through 2018 on Monday. Keim then went out and traded for Carson Palmer, solidifying the quarterback position. He's also nailed free-agent signings OLB Matt Shaughnessy, ILB Karlos Dansby, CB Antonio Cromartie, and LT Jared Veldheer. Keim hasn't gotten much out of first-round picks LG Jonathan Cooper and S Deone Bucannon, but has made up for it in the middle rounds with WR John Brown and DB Tyrann Mathieu.
