Browns LG Joel Bitonio (knee) returned to practice Wednesday.
Bitonio missed a large chunk of August with some sort of knee issue, but he appears ready to roll for the opener against the Steelers. He's a key cog in the Browns' top-end offensive line. Isaiah Crowell has a very tough matchup against Pittsburgh Week 1 but overall has RB1 upside thanks to this line. Sep 6 - 1:43 PM

Browns LG Joel Bitonio (knee) has been ruled out of the Browns' second preseason game.

Bitonio isn't dealing with any structural damage and won't need surgery. It's not related to his 2016 Lisfranc injury, but this is a setback that could cost him multiple weeks. Bitonio should be ready for the season opener.

Browns LG Joel Bitonio (Lisfranc) is taking part in individual work at minicamp.

It's the first time Bitonio has done so this offseason. The Browns are "hopeful" Bitonio will be ready for Week 1. He figures be eased into camp, but barring a setback, Bitonio should be ready for the opener. The Browns had to have made that calculation when they gave Bitonio a six-year, $51.237 deal at the start of the new league year.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports the Browns remain "hopeful" LG Joel Bitonio (Lisfranc) is ready for Week 1.

Bitonio, who sprained his foot last Week 5, has remained off to the side at OTAs. Bitonio also missed six games in 2015 with an ankle injury, but the Browns clearly believe in his health after giving him a six-year, $51.237 million deal in March. Perhaps he'll be babied through camp, but he should be out there Week 1.
May 30 - 2:35 PM

Browns signed LG Joel Bitonio to a five-year, $51 million extension through 2022.

The deal includes $23 million guaranteed. It's a whopper in the context of Bitonio's injury woes the past two seasons — he's currently recovering from Lisfranc surgery — but Bitonio has been one of the league's best young guards when on the field. The rebuilding Browns are trying to assemble a bully up front. Bitonio turns 26 in October. Sidelined since last October, Bitonio is expected to be ready for Week 1.
Mar 9 - 1:15 PM

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Browns have agreed to a contract extension with LG Joel Bitonio.

Terms aren't available, but Schefter called a "monster" extension. Clearly, the Browns aren't worried about the Lisfranc injury that sidelined Bitonio for most of last season. When healthy, he's one of the best run-blocking guards in football.
Mar 9 - 10:58 AM

Browns LG Joel Bitonio (injured reserve) underwent surgery Monday to repair a Lisfranc injury to his right foot.

Bitonio was already on injured reserve, but this officially rules him out for the rest of the season. He is expected to be ready for the start of 2017. Alvin Bailey replaced Bitonio against the Titans, but newly-signed Jonathan Cooper could see snaps soon.

Browns placed LG Joel Bitonio on injured reserve with a mid-foot sprain.

FB Dan Vitale was signed in a corresponding move. Bitonio suffered the injury last week, but played through it. He can't continue to do so, and it's a huge loss to the Browns' running game, dinging Isaiah Crowell's stock some. John Greco-Cameron Erving-Alvin Bailey will be the new interior line.

Browns LG Joel Bitonio suffered a mid-foot sprain Week 5 against the Patriots and is out indefinitely.

It's a massive loss. Bitonio is Pro Football Focus' No. 8 overall guard and an elite pass and run blocker. It's an especially big loss for Isaiah Crowell and the running game. Bitonio and LT Joe Thomas formed one of the better left-side tandems in the league. With C Cameron Erving (lung) set to return to the lineup, John Greco and Alvin Bailey will be the Browns' guards.

Browns LG Joel Bitonio says he's over the ankle issues that ended his 2015 season.

Bitonio missed six of Cleveland's final seven games. A 2014 second-rounder, Bitonio was highly impressive as a rookie before taking a major step back as a sophomore. Going on 25, Bitonio is a candidate to bounce back in a big way in 2016.
