The rookie experienced a "medical event" whilst driving to Jets practice Friday, and ended up spending two nights in the hospital. He'll be "eased back," but there doesn't appear to be any long-term concern. Saunders won't make a fantasy impact this season. Aug 18 - 2:08 PM

Rookie WR Jalen Saunders had a "medical incident" on his way to the Jets' practice facility Friday morning.

Originally reported as a single-car accident, it now appears Saunders did not crash his car. A league source said Saunders is "fine," but he "is being monitored as a precaution." The Jets declined to comment on the incident. Saunders will not play against the Bengals Saturday night.

The Jets announced Friday that fourth-round pick Jalen Saunders was involved in a one-car accident on his way to the team facility.

Saunders was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons; there is no reason to believe he was seriously injured, or even injured at all for that matter. Saunders projects as the Jets' primary punt returner this season.

Fourth-round pick Jalen Saunders is expected to make the Jets' roster as their primary punt returner.

He'll "be no better than the fifth or sixth receiver." Saunders' Dynasty league outlook is similarly bleak. At just over 5-foot-8, 165, the odds are heavily against Saunders ever making a consistent impact in an NFL passing game.

ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini said the team hopes rookie WR Jalen Saunders emerges as the primary punt returner.

At only 165 pounds, it is unlikely Saunders ever develops into an offensive contributor. He was stellar on punt returns in college, however, and could become a special teams weapon for the Jets. Saunders averaged 15.4 yards per punt return and scored two return touchdowns for Oklahoma last season.

The Jets plan to use fourth-round pick Jalen Saunders on punt returns.

We aren't optimistic about 165-pound Saunders' chances of becoming a major offensive contributor, but he certainly could add a spark to New York's special teams. Saunders scored three career punt return touchdowns at Oklahoma.

Jets signed fourth-round WR Jalen Saunders to a four-year contract.

The first of three wideouts drafted by the Jets on Day 3, Saunders averaged 15.2 yards per reception and had 26 touchdowns as a three-year starter at Oklahoma. Saunders should open 2014 behind Jeremy Kerley at slot receiver, with the majority of his playing time coming on punt returns.

Jets selected Oklahoma WR Jalen Saunders with the No. 104 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft.

Saunders (5-foot-8 3/4, 165) was a three-year starter under Bob Stoops, collecting 203 catches for 3,085 yards (15.2 YPR) and 26 touchdowns. He added three TDs on punt returns, which is where Saunders will likely make his living in the NFL. He has 4.44 speed and a 10-foot-2 broad jump. Saunders is too small to excel as a perimeter receiver, and built too slightly to handle a heavy workload in the slot -- where Jeremy Kerley currently resides.
