Ravens RB Lorenzo Taliaferro reportedly looked "very strong" during OTAs.
Taliaferro is the heavy favorite to win the early-down backup job behind Justin Forsett. Fourth-round rookie Buck Allen projects as the backup on passing downs. Taliaferro flashed at times as a rookie, averaging 4.29 YPC on 68 rushes and turning four of those into touchdowns. He's dropped eight pounds and has four percent less body fat than he did as a rookie. Jul 30 - 7:31 AM

The Baltimore Sun believes second-year pro Lorenzo Taliaferro looks much "leaner and quicker" this spring.

The 2014 fourth-rounder had a strong rookie campaign, rushing 68 times for 292 yards (4.29 YPC) and four touchdowns. He'll battle 2015 fourth-rounder Buck Allen for No. 2 duties behind Justin Forsett. Allen is a better pass catcher, but Taliaferro should have a leg up on short-yardage duties.

The Baltimore Sun anticipates the Ravens drafting a running back "within the first few rounds."

The Ravens are expected to give Lorenzo Taliaferro a "long look," but won't necessarily count on him as a longer-term answer. Justin Forsett is going on age 30. Baltimore has shown initial interest in Tevin Coleman, Melvin Gordon III, David Cobb, and David Johnson. The Ravens' backfield competition will be worth monitoring closely in the preseason. New OC Marc Trestman has an exciting track record of feeding running backs catches.

ESPN Ravens reporter Jamison Hensley sees Lorenzo Taliaferro as a candidate for "increased playing time" in 2015.

Hensley considers free agent Justin Forsett "not a lock" to re-sign and Bernard Pierce on the roster bubble. Taliaferro was steady as a rookie, averaging 4.29 yards per carry and scoring four TDs while mainly filling a short-yardage role. We do question Taliaferro's fit in new OC Marc Trestman's offense. Trestman emphasizes receiving ability in running backs.

Ravens placed RB Lorenzo Taliaferro on injured reserve with a sprained foot, ending his season.

Taliaferro sat out Week 15, but was listed with knee and ankle issues. It's unclear how severe his foot injury is. Foot sprains can be very tricky injuries for running backs to heal up from. A fourth-rounder out of small-school Coastal Carolina, Taliaferro had an impressive rookie season, averaging 4.3 yards on 68 carries. He scored four touchdowns, and added eight receptions. Taliaferro spent some time in coach John Harbaugh's doghouse for fumbling issues, but is a more intriguing long-term prospect than Bernard Pierce. Taliaferro could get a chance to lead the Ravens' backfield in 2015.

Lorenzo Taliaferro (ankle/knee) is listed as questionable for Week 15.

Per reporter Aaron Wilson, Taliaferro could "just as easily be ruled out." Translated, he isn't going to play against the Jaguars. Expect Bernard Pierce to fill in as the No. 2 back behind Justin Forsett this week. Forsett is set up for a monster workload in a game where Baltimore is a heavy favorite.

Lorenzo Taliaferro (knee, ankle) remained sidelined Thursday, and is expected to miss Week 15.

The word that Taliaferro is likely to sit comes from beat writer Aaron Wilson. It means Bernard Pierce will handle back-up work behind Justin Forsett.

Lorenzo Taliaferro (knee, ankle) did not practice Wednesday.

Taliaferro is day to day with knee and ankle sprains. His status for Week 15 is in question. Taliaferro will be updated again on Thursday.

Lorenzo Taliaferro has been diagnosed with sprains in his knee and ankle.

He's "day to day," the Ravens are saying. Taliaferro rushed seven times for 35 yards and had a 20-yard reception in Sunday's win over the Dolphins. Taliaferro is uncertain to play in Week 15 against Jacksonville.

With Justin Forsett playing through a knee injury, Lorenzo Taliaferro was re-involved in the Ravens' offense for their Week 14 win over the Dolphins, rushing seven times for 35 yards.

He added a 20-yard reception. The eight touches were Taliaferro's first in a month. Taliaferro was clearly ahead of Bernard Pierce on the depth chart, but Pierce managed to turn his three touches into 50 yards of his own. Taliaferro got a carry from the Dolphins' two-yard line in the fourth quarter, but couldn't cash it in for a score. Although it was nice to see Taliaferro out of the doghouse, he can't be counted on as an RB3 for Week 15.

Coach John Harbaugh insists Lorenzo Taliaferro isn't in the doghouse.

Taliaferro has barely been used since fumbling in Week 9, totaling three carries over the last three games. Justin Forsett is playing at an All-Pro level and Bernard Pierce has taken over No. 2 duties. Taliaferro remains a Dynasty hold as Forsett is on a one-year deal and Pierce has scuffled badly since an impressive 2012 rookie campaign.

Lorenzo Taliaferro rushed for 10 yards on three carries in the Ravens' Week 10 win over the Titans.

After losing a critical fumble in last week's loss to Pittsburgh, Taliaferro was demoted behind Bernard Pierce in this game. He didn't play a snap until midway through the fourth quarter, when Pierce left with an apparent arm or elbow injury. Taliaferro will have low-end flex value when he plays ahead of Pierce, but is useless when Pierce plays ahead of him. And there is no predictability in the Ravens' No. 2-back usage. Taliaferro is just an RB4 stash entering a Week 11 bye. He needs Justin Forsett to get injured to become a truly start-able asset.

Lorenzo Taliaferro rushed seven times for 21 yards in Sunday night's loss to the Steelers, adding three catches for 34 yards.

Taliaferro was used in a committee with Justin Forsett, but saw limited snaps after losing a fumble in the second quarter. He struggled in short-yardage situations and didn't get any red-zone opportunities. Taliaferro will be just a touchdown-dependent RB4 for Week 10.

Lorenzo Taliaferro rushed seven times for 27 yards and two touchdowns and caught two passes for 42 yards in the Ravens' Week 8 loss to the Bengals.

Taliaferro was Baltimore's No. 2 back behind Justin Forsett this week, with Bernard Pierce a healthy scratch. The fourth-round pick consistently replaced Justin Forsett in short-yardage situations, scoring twice on red-zone carries. An underrated asset in the passing game, "Zo" wound up leading the Ravens in receiving yards against the Bengals. Taliaferro's usage will probably be hit or miss going forward behind Forsett, but he won't be a bad bet for short TDs on a weekly basis as long as he keeps his current role. He's worth rostering everywhere. The Ravens face a soft Pittsburgh run defense next.
Sun, Oct 26, 2014 04:21:00 PM

ESPN Ravens reporter Jamison Hensley expects Lorenzo Taliaferro to take over as Baltimore's goal-line back in the absence of Bernard Pierce.

Pierce is a healthy scratch against the Bengals and appears to have been passed by Taliaferro on the depth chart. Although Taliaferro's fantasy usefulness has been hit-or-miss all season, the fourth-round rookie out of Coastal Carolina is averaging a rock-solid 4.52 YPC and now has a bead on red-zone carries in Gary Kubiak's running back-friendly offense entering a plus Week 8 matchup against the Bengals' league-worst run defense. Taliaferro is suddenly a compelling flex option in TD-heavy fantasy leagues and should be owned in all 12- and 14-teamers.
