Dolphins waived CB Bene Benwikere.

Benwikere had yet to be active since being claimed off waivers from the Panthers last month. Still only 25, Benwikere should get another shot elsewhere, but doesn't have a lot of good film to hang his hat on.

Dolphins claimed CB Bene Benwikere off waivers from the Panthers.

It's a rare shrewd move by the Dolphins, who need all the coverage help they can get. At his best, Benwikere is a quality slot corner who was stretched playing outside in Carolina. He got burned to a crisp by Julio Jones in Week 4, but was solid in Carolina's first four games. It seemed like the Panthers were trying to send the team a message by cutting him. Either way, Benwikere will almost certainly see snaps soon in Miami's embarrassing secondary.

Panthers waived CB Bene Benwikere.

This is the fallout from Benwikere being burnt to a crisp by Julio Jones last week. Jones hung a 12-300-1 line on the Panthers, and Pro Football Focus charged Benwikere with 8-228-1 of it. It's a surprising move, as it was just one bad game, but GM Dave Gettleman has moved on to wanting big, tall corners on the outside. Benwikere was solid Weeks 1-3 and had strong 2014 and 2015 seasons. More than one team will likely put in a waiver claim on Benwikere.
Oct 7 - 11:41 AM

Panthers CB Bene Benwikere could be benched for Week 5.

Even with James Bradberry battling turf toe, Benwikere isn't guaranteed one of the Panthers' top three spots against the Bucs after allowing eight catches for 228 yards and a touchdown against Julio Jones last Sunday. Benwikere has been very volatile throughout his three-year career, but considering that his competition is Daryl Worley, Robert McClain and Teddy Williams, he should have a top-three job against Tampa.

Panthers activated CB Bene Benwikere (leg) off the active/PUP list.

Benwikere sat out the entire spring and missed about a week of camp as he recovered from a broken leg. With Josh Norman and Charles Tillman out of town, Benwikere is now the Panthers' new No. 1 corner.
Aug 3 - 9:19 AM

Panthers placed CB Bene Benwikere (leg) on the active/PUP list.

Benwikere is still working into shape after sitting out the entire offseason. He can be activated at any time. Benwikere isn't in any danger of missing Week 1.
Jul 27 - 4:41 PM

Bene Benwikere (leg) has taken the Panthers' trio of rookie cornerbacks under his wing.

Benwikere was not able to participate in the offseason program as he recovers from a broken leg, but that did not stop him from helping out the youngsters. "I get to go through individuals with them, get to do walk-throughs with them," Benwikere said. "When we’re watching film, there’s a lot of things I can show them that happened to me previously, especially Zack (Sanchez) playing nickel." Benwikere is only entering his third year, but he is the veteran leader of the corner group following the departures of Josh Norman and Charles Tillman. With rookies all around him, the Panthers need Benwikere to take a step forward this season.
Jun 21 - 9:38 AM

Coach Ron Rivera said CB Bene Benwikere (leg) is on track for training camp.

The Panthers are likely to limit him early after missing the entire offseason. Benwikere and Robert McClain are penciled in as Carolina’s starters in base sets, with rookies James Bradberry and Daryl Worley competing for nickel snaps.
Jun 18 - 2:40 PM

Panthers CB Bene Benwikere (broken leg) is expected to be ready for training camp.

Benwikere suffered a gruesome break to his left leg in December. His health has taken on increased importance after the Panthers parted ways with Josh Norman. The No. 148 overall pick of the 2014 draft, Benwikere has lacked for consistency, but is still only 25 (in September).

The Panthers plan to give slot CB Bene Benwikere an opportunity to stick on the outside in 2016.

"I think the plan really with him is to keep him as a one-position guy," coach Ron Rivera said. "I thought he did some really nice things when he had the opportunity to play on the outside and we’re going to see how he is when he gets back." "When he gets back" because Benwikere is recovering from a broken left leg. Benwikere finished 2015 on the outside opposite Josh Norman as Peanut Tillman was sidelined with a knee issue, and also spent four games on the boundary in 2014. The emphasis switch means the Panthers view adding a nickel corner as a higher priority than outside corner. A 2014 fifth-rounder, Benwikere hasn't been terribly effective through his first two NFL seasons.
Feb 25 - 7:26 PM

Panthers CB Bene Benwikere has a broken left leg, and is done for the season.

He'll be placed on injured reserve Monday. The Panthers' No. 2 cornerback, Benwikere has been having a rough season, but his loss comes as the Panthers are still awaiting the return of starter Charles Tillman (knee). The Panthers are going to have to ad lib in the slot as they pursue a perfect 16-0 campaign. Benwikere should be fine for training camp next summer.

Panthers CB Bene Benwikere was carted off with a left leg injury in Carolina's Week 14 game against the Falcons.

Benwikere has been filling in for Peanut Tillman opposite Josh Norman. Benwikere has struggled mightily this season, but his loss thins the Panthers' depth as they wait on Tillman (knee) to get healthy.

Panthers CB Bene Benwikere has been sitting out OTAs with a hamstring injury.

Last year's fifth-round pick was a nice surprise as a rookie. He started the final six games, including the playoffs, and graded out as a top-15 cover corner at Pro Football Focus out of 108 qualifiers. Benwikere, Josh Norman, and veteran Charles Tillman figure to make up the top of Carolina's cornerback depth chart.

Panthers declared CB Bene Benwikere, RB Chris Ogbonnaya, S Robert Lester, OT David Foucault, LG Amini Silatolu, OL Mike Remmers, and DT Star Lotulelei inactive for Week 11 against the Falcons.

Benwikere isn't yet over his high-ankle sprain. Lotulelei is out with an ankle injury of his own, but is expected back in Week 12. Silatolu has a balky knee.
