Rams CB E.J. Gaines will miss the 2015 season after undergoing surgery to repair a Lisfranc injury in his foot.
Diagnoses of Gaines' injury seemed all over the board, with some suggesting he merely had plantar fasciitis, a condition some players can play through depending on their pain tolerance. Instead, Gaines was shown to have a Lisfranc fracture. It's a big blow to the Rams' secondary. Gaines was a steal as a sixth-round pick in last year's draft, bypassing Janoris Jankins as the Rams' most reliable corner. The Rams will lean on Trumaine Johnson and slot corner/free safety Lamarcus Joyner to help patch the void. Aug 15 - 11:57 PM

Rams CB E.J. Gaines' injury is to his foot, not his knee.

Gaines "wrenched his knee" after getting stepped on Sunday, but his foot took the worst of it. In theory, it's good news, but foot injuries aren't always as straightforward as knee issues. There is some fear Gaines has plantar fasciitis. It remains unclear when Gaines might resume practicing. His absence gives Trumaine Johnson a leg up in the battle to start opposite Janoris Jenkins.

Rams CB E.J. Gaines (knee) will be sidelined "at least" two weeks after getting rolled up in Sunday's practice.

Gaines "wrenched" his knee after getting stepped on. Per reporter Jim Thomas, Gaines is undergoing further testing, and "there is some concern." Gaines is battling Trumaine Johnson to start opposite Janoris Jenkins. His injury gives Johnson a pretty big leg up.

Rams declared CB E.J. Gaines, TE Justice Cunningham, OL Barrett Jones, OL Brandon Washington, TE Alex Bayer, DT Alex Carrington, and DL Ethan Westbrooks inactive for Week 17 against the Seahawks.

Gaines took some friendly fire last week when S T.J. McDonald tried to lower the boom on Odell Beckham. Gaines had a bloody mouth and smacked his helmetless head on the turf. The rest of the Rams' inactives are healthy.

Rams LCB E.J. Gaines (concussion) is listed as doubtful for Week 17.

It's a big blow to St. Louis' defense; Gaines has been the Rams' top corner all season. The Rams will likely be forced to turn back to benched rookie Lamarcus Joyner in the slot, upgrading Doug Baldwin's matchup. An excellent find by GM Les Snead, Gaines was the 188th overall pick in last May's draft.

Rams LCB E.J. Gaines suffered a concussion and lacerated lip in Sunday's Week 16 loss to the Giants.

He may have to sit out Week 17 against the Seahawks, depending on how Gaines does in the NFL's concussion protocol testing. Gaines has had a quietly terrific rookie year in coverage, asserting himself as St. Louis' top cornerback.

Rams CB E.J. Gaines left Sunday's Week 16 game against the Giants in the third quarter with an undisclosed injury.

Gaines caught some friendly fire when two Rams went after Odell Beckham on a slant. His helmet flew off and he was bloodied. On the very next play, ODB went for an 80-yard touchdown.

The Rams have started sixth-round pick E.J. Gaines at left cornerback in each of their first two games.

Gaines hasn't been noticeably exposed yet, but that time may be coming against Dez Bryant this week. RCB bookend Janoris Jenkins has been frustratingly inconsistent throughout his career, supporting Dez's matchup at the Edward Jones Dome. Even if usual LCB Trumaine Johnson (MCL sprain) returns this week, it's likely he would be eased back into the lineup versus Dallas.

Rams signed No. 188 overall pick CB E.J. Gaines to a four-year contract.

Although Gaines (5-foot-10, 190 pounds) is slightly built, he's a feisty, physical zone corner, one who stood out as a gunner on special teams at Mizzou. That's where Gaines should begin his NFL career, but he could develop into a No. 2 or 3 corner.

Rams selected Missouri CB E.J. Gaines with the No. 188 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft.

Gaines (5-foot-9 5/8, 190) was a three-year starter for the Tigers, finishing his career with 14 tackles for loss, eight interceptions, and three forced fumbles. He ran 4.48 at the Mizzou Pro Day. Although Gaines is slightly built, he held 6-foot-5 Mike Evans to four catches for eight yards (not a typo) in the Tigers' November win over Texas A&M. Gaines is a feisty, physical zone corner and was a standout gunner on Missouri's special teams. He projects as a No. 2 or 3 corner in time.
