Lions DE Larry Webster said he’s up to 270 pounds.
The 136th overall pick in last year’s draft, Webster spent his rookie season as a weekly inactive. With George Johnson no longer in Detroit, Webster is battling Devin Taylor, Darryl Tapp, and Corey Wootton for the No. 3 defensive end job. Webster ran 4.58 at the 2014 Combine and should contribute as a situational pass rusher. Coach Jim Caldwell expects Webster to make a second-year leap. May 20 - 4:40 PM

Coach Jim Caldwell said second-year DE Larry Webster "has made leaps and bounds in his ability to rush the passer."

"At some point in time, you're going to see that young man take the field for us and perform extremely well," Caldwell said of Webster. The 136th overall pick in last year's draft out of tiny Bloomsburg, Webster didn't play a single snap as a rookie. At 6'6/262, Webster has a ton of upside as a backup pass rusher.

Lions signed fourth-round DE Larry Webster to a four-year contract.

The small-school prospect out of Bloomsburg played just two seasons of football after starting his college career as a basketball player. He has terrific athleticism and adequate size at 6-foot-5 3/4 and 252 pounds, but is obviously extremely raw at this point.

Lions selected Bloomsburg DE Larry Webster with the No. 136 overall pick in the NFL draft.

Webster (6-foot-5 3/4, 252) played football for only two seasons at D-2 Bloomsburg after opening his college career as a basketball player, where he set a school record with 175 blocked shots. Across 24 football starts, Webster tallied 31 tackles for loss, 26 sacks, and three forced fumbles. Webster is a wildly raw prospect, but is a very explosive natural athlete with a 4.56 forty time, 36 1/2-inch vertical, and 10-foot-3 broad jump. He also has lengthy 33 1/2-inch arms. Webster is still learning to play, but offers big-time starter's upside if developed properly.
