Lions DT Caraun Reid underwent minor ankle surgery after the season.

A high-ankle sprain suffered last August hampered Reid the rest of the season. This surgery was likely to clean up any lingering issues from that injury. Reid is expected back long before training camp. 24-year-old Reid finished his second NFL season with 29 tackles and two sacks as a 12-game starter. He would be better utilized as the Lions' No. 3 or 4 tackle in 2016.

Lions DT Caraun Reid suffered a high-ankle sprain in the second preseason game.

He should be held out the rest of the preseason and should be considered questionable for Week 1. Reid was having a strong training camp and was reportedly ahead of Tyrunn Walker on the depth chart. Jermelle Cudjo could get some run with the first team if Reid's injury lingers.

Lions second-year DT Caraun Reid is pushing Tyrunn Walker for the starting job opposite Haloti Ngata.

After playing just 112 snaps as a rookie, Princeton alumnus Reid dropped 10 pounds working out with Ndamukong Suh during the offseason. That work was noticed by coach Jim Caldwell, who said Reid was "more explosive" and improved "almost in every single area." Both Reid and Walker will see snaps in the defensive tackle rotation, but it appears Reid has a real shot to start.
