Bengals placed WR/ST James Wright on injured reserve with a knee injury, ending his season.

Wright will go on I.R. after passing through waivers unclaimed. He’s facing knee surgery after tearing his PCL late last season. With Wright sidelined, the Bengals could add a veteran receiver before training camp.

Bengals waived/injured WR James Wright.

Per Bengals.com's Geoff Hobson, Wright is "facing season-ending knee surgery" after apparently tearing his PCL late last year. The injury was previously undisclosed. Wright had been penciled in as Cincinnati's No. 4 receiver. Hobson reports the Bengals are expected to work out a group of veteran receivers before camp begins on Friday. The No. 239 pick of last year's draft, Wright caught five passes in 11 games. He should clear waivers and revert to injured reserve, but it's not a given. Wright's injury increases Denarius Moore's odds of making the team.

Bengals WR James Wright sat out most of team drills during the spring.

Beat writer Geoff Hobson failed to mention what the reasoning was, but we're assuming Wright underwent some sort of offseason surgery. Wright caught five balls for 91 yards as a rookie and was a fixture on special teams. The Bengals are high on the sophomore. He's the front-runner for No. 4 receiver duties.

Bengals WR James Wright secured 3-of-5 targets for 59 yards in Cincinnati's Week 13 win over the Bucs.

A seventh-round pick out of LSU, Wright was stuck behind Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham in college. The Bengals drafted him with special teams in mind, but he's quickly moved ahead of Brandon Tate, Dane Sanzenbacher, and Greg Little as the team's No. 3 receiver. Wright is worth monitoring in Dynasty leagues. His 59 receiving yards led the Bengals in Sunday's victory.

Bengals rookie WR James Wright suffered a concussion in Sunday night's third preseason game.

He had to be stretchered off the field. This could lead to Cincinnati stashing Wright on injured reserve for his rookie season, as the injury appeared quite serious. Wright was drafted by the Bengals to play on special teams.

The Bengals have been impressed with seventh-round WR James Wright on offense.

It's notable because Wright was a strict special teamer at LSU. "(I) talked to him and said, 'Look, I know what you can do on special teams, now you've got to play wide receiver,'" sid WRs coach James Urban. "He's embraced it. ... We'll see once we get the pads on, but it's been encouraging." Despite Urban's talk, Wright's 53-man roster odds live and die with his special-teams prowess.

Bengals signed seventh-round WR James Wright to a four-year contract.

Wright was a pure special teams player as a senior at LSU after catching just 18 passes the year before. He won't play on offense in Cincinnati and will have to display otherworldly kick-covering attributes to stick on the 53-man roster.

Bengals selected LSU WR James Wright with the No. 239 overall pick in the 2014 draft.

Wright (6-foot-1, 201) posted 18 catches for 242 yards as a junior. As a senior, he had zero receptions as he was banished to a strict special teams role while watching Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry improve their draft stock. Barring an outstanding kick and punt coverage showing on the practice field in camp, Wright will be an extreme longshot to crack the Bengals' final roster.
