Bears signed TE Trey Burton, formerly of the Eagles, to a four-year, $32 million contract.
This move almost certainly means the Bears plan to cut Dion Sims, who they just signed to a "three-year, 18 million" contract last offseason. Chicago will hope Burton fares better, and he has a good shot under new coach Matt Nagy, who heavily utilized tight ends during his time with the Chiefs. That should mean good fantasy things for Burton, but he might have to compete with 2017 second-rounder Adam Shaheen for targets. In addition to Burton, the Bears added Allen Robinson to their talent-bare pass-catching corps on Tuesday. Mar 13 - 11:22 AM

Date:'s Mike Garofolo reports the Lions are interested in free agent TE Trey Burton.

Per Garofolo, Burton already has a "half dozen serious suitors." Burton made noise whenever given the opportunity in Philadelphia and is the upside wild card of this year's free agent tight end class.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports free agent TE Trey Burton is "expected to leave Philly."

Rapoport suggested the interest wasn't there with the Eagles "stacked at tight end" and "dealing with cap considerations." 16 teams have already reached out to Burton and he's expected to have a strong market in free agency. After spending the past few years as a backup behind Zach Ertz, Burton will look to be in a starting role.
Mar 3 - 1:14 PM

Free agent Trey Burton turned down a contract from the Eagles he "didn't consider serious."

One of the top free-agent tight ends, the Eagles don't have the cap space to re-sign Burton. He's looking for a starting role after spending the last few years behind Zach Ertz. Burton should be targeting Jared Cook money ($5M-plus annually).
Feb 25 - 11:36 AM

According to Matt Lombardo of, the Eagles are unlikely to re-sign free agent TE Trey Burton.

The Eagles are $9.7 million over the cap and simply don't have the funds to keep Burton in the fold. Burton was a backup in 2017 but played well when called upon, totaling 112 yards and three touchdowns in two games without Zach Ertz. He also threw a touchdown pass to Nick Foles on the famous Philly Special play in Super Bowl LII. The 26-year-old should catch on as a starter elsewhere.
Feb 23 - 2:00 PM

Trey Burton missed his lone target, but threw a one-yard touchdown pass in the Eagles' Super Bowl 52 win over the Patriots.

On the gutsiest call by a coach all season, Doug Pederson went for it on fourth-and-goal at the end of the first half, calling a trick play featuring ex-college QB Burton throwing a touchdown pass to Nick Foles. A top-end athlete with dynamic pass-catching chops, Burton flourished whenever Zach Ertz has missed time in Philadelphia, and is now headed to free agency at age 26. Similar to Delanie Walker in Tennessee a few years ago, Burton should land a starting job on the open market. He’s worth stashing in Dynasty leagues and could become a major re-draft factor depending on landing spot.
Feb 4 - 10:45 PM

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo expects contract-year TE Trey Burton to land a "significant deal" this offseason.

Burton was tendered at the second-round level as a restricted free agent last offseason. He's one of the better backups in the league and has flashed with Zach Ertz sidelined — scoring three touchdowns in the two games Ertz has missed. With a shallow tight end market, it would be surprising if Burton didn't get starter-level money.

Eagles TE Trey Burton caught 5-of-6 targets for 71 yards and two touchdowns in the Eagles' Week 14 win over the Rams.

Burton's day got off to an ominous start when Brent Celek scored on the Eagles' opening drive, but Burton had a score of his own before the first quarter was through. He then scored again in the opening minutes of the second. It was everything fantasy streamers could have hoped for. With Zach Ertz (concussion) expected back for Week 15, Burton won't be on the radar against the Giants' sieve-like tight end defense.

Trey Burton caught 2-of-4 targets for 41 yards and a touchdown in the Eagles' Week 9 win over the Broncos.

Burton picked up the start in place of Zach Ertz (hamstring) and delivered a 27-yard touchdown in Philly's blowout win. Ertz figures to return after the Eagles' Week 10 bye, at which point Burton would resume third-string tight end duties behind Ertz and blocker Brent Celek.

Trey Burton caught four passes for 43 yards in the Eagles' third preseason game.

An athletic slot tight end whom the Eagles tendered at the second-round level, Burton could have a bigger role than expected this year due to the Eagles' slot receiver shortage, but he's unlikely to become a fantasy factor without a severe injury to Zach Ertz. Burton is more of a hold in Dynasty leagues.

Eagles re-signed restricted free agent TE Trey Burton to a one-year, $2.746 million contract.

Burton's passing-game role will shrink with the additions of Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith, but the Eagles made sure to keep their athletic reserve tight end after Burton's mini-breakout 2016 campaign. Not yet 26 years old, Burton posted a 37-321-1 receiving line on 60 targets last season. A onetime college quarterback, Burton will be an unrestricted free agent next offseason.

Eagles extended a second-round tender to restricted free agent TE Trey Burton.

25-year-old Burton earned a prominent role in the Eagles' passing game last year, setting career highs in catches (37) and yards (327). An undrafted free agent in 2014, the Eagles would have risked losing Burton on a low tender. He'll return on a one-year, $2.81 million deal. With the Eagles expected to keep Brent Celek, Burton should remain in a limited role behind Zach Ertz.

Trey Burton hauled in 5-of-6 targets for 39 yards Week 17 against the Cowboys.

Burton was held to five yards total in Weeks 14 and 15, but he was surprisingly involved down the stretch, seeing at least six targets in four of his final five games. It is unlikely Burton becomes a viable fantasy starter with Zach Ertz ahead of him on the depth chart, but he certainly showed enough for the Eagles to bring him back on a RFA tender next season.

Eagles TE Trey Burton caught 2-of-6 targets for two yards in Sunday's Week 15 loss to the Ravens.

Burton has become a bigger part of the Eagles' offense, but he's an unreliable fantasy option behind Zach Ertz. Burton would come more into play if Ertz missed time. Burton is worth stashing in most Dynasty leagues.

Trey Burton snagged two-of-six targets for 19 yards Sunday in the Eagles' Week 3 win over the Steelers.

Burton may have been the only receiver Carson Wentz didn’t have great chemistry with on Sunday. Both of his catches came in the first half before the Eagles laid waste to the Steelers with a 21-point third quarter. Burton earned more targets than blocking tight end Brent Celek but Celek outgained him by 42 yards. Zach Ertz (ribs) could return after the Eagles’ bye week, which would likely send Burton back to the bench.
