Trey Burton is locked in as the Eagles' No. 3 tight end.
Burton isn't facing any competition and is expected to fill the same role James Casey filled last season as a core special teams player while seeing occasional snaps on offense. The second-year UDFA out of Florida is a QB-turned-WR-turned-TE. The Eagles like Burton long-term as the No. 2 behind Zach Ertz. Fri, Aug 21, 2015 09:37:00 AM

Trey Burton is expected to be groomed into the Eagles' future No. 2 tight end.

Burton, an undrafted project out of Florida last year, is a plus special teamer for now. Eventually, the Eagles hope he can play that role and back up Zach Ertz. Burton played some wideout at the University of Florida.

Eagles signed Florida WR/TE Trey Burton.

Burton (6-foot-2 1/8, 224) arrived at UF as a three-star dual threat-quarterback, but converted to a receiver/tight end hybrid position as a senior, the same spot once manned by Jordan Reed. He posted a 38-445-11.7-1 stat line in 2013. Burton is essentially a jack of all trades and master of none. He lacks athleticism to play wideout in the pros (4.62 forty, 30-inch vertical), and is quite small for a tight end. He'll have to prove he can play special teams before anything else.
