The Steelers have not approached contract-year FS Ryan Clark about an extension.
It's not surprising because the Steelers traded up to draft Clark's heir apparent in Shamarko Thomas. Clark wants to finish his career in Pittsburgh, but may not have that option. Thomas is much cheaper and Clark turns 34 in October. Jun 16 - 3:13 PM

FS Ryan Clark hopes to remain with the Steelers beyond 2013.

Going on 34, Clark is headed into the final year of his contract. The Steelers used the No. 111 pick on S Shamarko Thomas, whom they view as Clark's apprentice. Clark is worried about what it might mean for his career if the Steelers let him walk in 2014. "This has always been a smart organization about letting guys go when they feel like they don't have what's left to be here," Clark said. "So we'll see. But I want to finish my career here. I've found a home here."

Steelers FS Ryan Clark passed his concussion exams and "appears ready to play" on Sunday against the Ravens.

Clark suffered his second concussion in three games on Monday night against the Chiefs, but he put in a full practice on Thursday after being limited on Wednesday. The 33-year-old has had an excellent season, and with Troy Polamalu (calf) missing much of the year, Clark has been a fixture on the back end.

Steelers FS Ryan Clark sustained his second concussion in three weeks Monday night.

Coach Mike Tomlin said Clark "appears to be fine," but his status is in doubt on a short week. SS Troy Polamalu (calf) is expected to miss at least one more game, leaving the Steelers short-handed at safety versus the Ravens in Week 11.

Steelers FS Ryan Clark (concussion) has been cleared for practice.

"I wasn't knocked out," said Clark. "I got dinged. I'd venture to say that I've been in that situation before and not taken out of the game or not told anybody. ... I feel good." Clark will have to pass another test on Friday to gain clearance for Sunday's game versus the Giants.

Steelers FS Ryan Clark left Sunday's game against the Redskins with a concussion and will not return.

Clark was injured on the opening series of the second half and was walked straight to the locker room for further examination. Ryan Mundy replaced him on defense. Troy Polamalu is already out with a calf injury, too.

Steelers FS Ryan Clark won't play against the Broncos Sunday due to his sickle cell trait.

Clark didn't play in last year's Wild Card game in Denver, so we knew he wouldn't play in Week 1 this year. Ryan Mundy, who had five tackles and two forced fumbles in that playoff game, figures to draw the start once again.

The Steelers will hold FS Ryan Clark out of the Wild Card round due to his sickle cell trait.

Clark would play if Pittsburgh's first-round playoff game were held anywhere other than the Denver thin air. Ryan Mundy figures to draw the start. The Steelers are facing a Broncos team that struggled mightily down the stretch, so they may feel they can win without pushing Clark to play. Clark, 32, finished the regular season with a career-high 100 tackles and an interception.

Steelers FS Ryan Clark might not play against the Broncos Sunday due to his sickle cell trait.

Clark's medical condition does not respond well to playing in the thin air at Mile High. He lost his spleen and gallbladder after playing there in 2007 and sat out the 2009 game in Denver. A decision on Clark's availability is expected by Tuesday. Ryan Mundy would start if Clark doesn't go.

Steelers FS Ryan Clark plans to report to the team facility at 8AM Tuesday.

Clark, the Steelers' NFLPA representative, is also telling teammates that they are free to report now that Judge Susan Nelson granted a lockout injunction. "We want to be on the field," Clark said. "We want to show this is not a litigation process but an attempt to have football in 2011." Many agents with clients who are due roster and workout bonuses are advising to do the same.

The Steelers will hold FS Ryan Clark out of their third preseason game Sunday night due to his sickle cell trait.

The Steelers are playing at Mile High in Denver, where Clark lost his spleen and gallbladder in 2007. He also didn't play when the Steelers took on the Broncos in an away game last year. Ryan Mundy figures to draw the start.

Steelers re-signed FS Ryan Clark to a four-year, $17 million contract, including $5 million in the first year.

Smartly, the Steelers didn't stop pursuing Clark after their Monday addition of backup-caliber safety Will Allen. Also smartly on Clark's part, he leveraged Pittsburgh by taking a Monday visit to the Dolphins. Clark turns 31 during the upcoming season and has never been a big-time playmaker, but is a banger in the back end with above-average range. His return is good news for a Steelers secondary that may experience major overhaul at cornerback.

Free agent FS Ryan Clark has arrived in Miami for a Sunday night visit with the Dolphins.

It's his first official visit, and Clark sounds ready to sign on the dotted line. "That's the reason we waited so long to take any trips," he said. "We had interested teams that I didn't really want to go to. But this seems like a good spot. So I'm praying to goes well." Clark would replace FS Gibril Wilson, who was released late last week.

The Dolphins are reportedly "discussing" the idea of signing free agent FS Ryan Clark.

He should be a much more affordable option than Antrel Rolle, and is a far superior tackler. Clark's also drawn interest from the Bears and his "old" team, the Steelers. The Redskins and Giants have been rumored as suitors.

Free agent FS Ryan Clark is reportedly drawing interest from six teams, including the Steelers.

Clark would make for a smart (and much more reasonably priced) signing for the teams losing out on Antrel Rolle. The Cardinals and Bears are likely interested, and perhaps the Dolphins, Redskins, and Giants as well.
