Cameron Wolfe of the Denver Post left Bennie Fowler off his projection for the Broncos' 53-man roster.
He also left off Marlon Brown. Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders, Carlos Henderson and Isaiah McKenzie are all locks, leaving four players—Fowler, Brown, Cody Latimer and Jordan Taylor—to battle for the last two spots at wide receiver. Wolfe believes Latimer will make the team because of his special teams prowess while Taylor's size gives him the edge over Fowler and Brown. Jun 23 - 2:26 PM

Broncos WR Bennie Fowler (elbow) has been cleared to practice.

Fowler has been out since early August. He was limited to individual drills Wednesday, but has a chance to return this week. Fowler was the frontrunner for Denver's No. 3 receiver job before going down.

Broncos WR Bennie Fowler (elbow) did not practice Sunday.

Fowler suffered a broken elbow in mid-August. He has been wearing a brace on the elbow, but it does not provide enough protection to play. "The brace can protect against the hit, but it doesn’t really protect against how you land," Fowler said. "I’d rather miss the first game and be good for the rest of the season than rush back and then missed several games." Even though he will likely miss Week 1, it sounds like Fowler will be back early in the year.

Broncos WR Bennie Fowler has a "small fracture" in his elbow.

Fowler suffered the injury covering a punt in the preseason opener, but he did not know he was hurt until the next morning. He is expected to miss a few weeks. The frontrunner for the No. 3 job, Fowler's injury could open up an opportunity for perennial disappointment Cody Latimer. It sounds like Fowler should be ready for Week 1.

Bennie Fowler has emerged as the "frontrunner" for the Broncos' No. 3 receiver job.

In related news, Cody Latimer continues to shape up as a bust. Among Denver's sub-package wideouts, Fowler has reportedly been the most "consistent" early in camp. As the Broncos use far more two-tight end than three-receiver sets, Fowlers fantasy impact will be negligible even if he wins the No. 3 job.

Broncos re-signed exclusive rights free agent WR Bennie Fowler.

Fowler was targeted 24 times last season, hauling in 16 catches for 203 yards. With Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders occupying most of the team's targets, Fowler will again be an afterthought in 2016.

USA Today's Lindsay Jones believes second-year UDFA Bennie Fowler is "making a strong case" for the Broncos' No. 4 or 5 receiver job.

A Michigan State product, Fowler caught three passes for 67 yards in Saturday's preseason opener. That's already more yardage than he mustered all last exhibition season. Standing in at 6'1/212, Fowler flashed 4.52 speed at last year's Combine, and shined in the broad jump. He was more of a big-play threat than compiler in the Big Ten, and was a slow developer because of injuries.
