Former Giants receiver Amani Toomer believes he's played his final NFL snap.
"I think I'm done," Toomer admitted. "I feel like it was a mistake going to Kansas City (for training camp). I played 13 years in a great (Giants) organization. I was in a preseason game with Kansas City and it felt like it wasn't pro football to me. It kind of made it easy for me (to walk away)." Toomer could sign a one-day contract to retire with the Giants this offseason. The 35-year-old is 35th all time in receptions and receiving yards. Fri, Nov 27, 2009 02:30:00 PM

Chiefs released WR Amani Toomer.

Our pre-camp expectation that Mark Bradley would win Kansas City's flanker job looks better. Bradley still has to beat out Terrance Copper, but Toomer's release and Devard Darling's torn ACL have cleared a path. Toomer, 35 next week, showed good hands but no separation skills in practice. It wouldn't be a bad idea for him to sign a one-day contract and retire a Giant.

Chiefs signed WR Amani Toomer to a one-year contract, according to ESPN's John Clayton.

Toomer is 35 soon and coming off one of the least productive seasons (48/580/4) of his career. He's purely a possession receiver at this point, but will push Mark Bradley and Devard Darling hard for snaps at flanker. Due to Bradley's injury proneness and Darling's ineptness as a pass catcher, we wouldn't rule out Toomer starting in coach Todd Haley's pass-heavy offense.

The Chiefs are reportedly leaning towards signing free agent Amani Toomer after Monday's tryout of three receivers.

This doesn't say much for D.J. Hackett and David Terrell. Toomer has played the most recently, but turns 35 next month and is coming off a poor season.

In addition to D.J. Hackett, the Chiefs worked out free agent receivers Amani Toomer and David Terrell on Monday.

We hadn't heard from Terrell since he was cut in Broncos camp two full years ago. Toomer, 35, made his first free agent visit of the offseason Monday. None of these retread receivers would be very good bets to help Kansas City.

The NY Daily News "hears" that the Jets are exploring the free agent wide receiver market.

Possibilities are Matt Jones, Marvin Harrison, and Amani Toomer. SI's Ross Tucker has suggested that Toomer could be a fit. He's a pure possession receiver, though, and the Jets already have one of them in Jerricho Cotchery.

Free agent Amani Toomer says he's "counting" on catching with a team before or near the start of training camp.

Toomer is coming off a 48-catch season, his worst total in a full year since he was primarily a kick returner early in his career. The 35-year-old likely won't find work unless he takes the minimum salary and a backup role.

Sources tell the Chicago Tribune that the Bears have not been in touch with free agent Amani Toomer.

This counters a report from earlier in the week by Steve Wyche of the NFL Network that the Bears did call Toomer. It should come as no surprise that the Bears are looking to add a veteran presence, but they can wait out the soon to be 35-year old Toomer, who is getting scant interest from the league.

Amani Toomer has received no interest since the free agency period began.

This might change when the first-tier players have all signed, but Toomer will have a hard time finding anyone willing to give him more than the minimum.

Free agent Amani Toomer's recent calling out of the coaching staff reportedly solidified the Giants' stance that he won't be back.

The club reportedly "grew tired of him a couple of years ago," questioning his attitude and dedication. A career Giant, Toomer is usually regarded as a consummate pro and was the team's most consistent receiver during its 2007 Super Bowl run.

The Giants have reportedly informed free agent WR Amani Toomer that they are not likely to bring him back.

Not exactly earth-shattering news as it's been speculated since the end of the season, and Toomer's recent criticism of the organization sealed the deal. Wherever he winds up, the declining veteran's days of fantasy relevance are over.

Eli Manning disagrees that Amani Toomer was phased out of the Giants' offense towards the end of last season.

However, Manning does acknowledge that they wanted young receivers Domenik Hixon, Steve Smith, and Sinorice Moss more involved, which cut into Toomer's targets. Either way, he won't be back with the Giants next season.

Amani Toomer fully expects the Giants to let him leave in free agency, but believes it will end up a poor football decision.

"They didn't think Kurt Warner had much left," Toomer said. "See him now. They didn't think Kerry Collins had much left. See him now. Ike Hilliard. There's other teams and hopefully I'll get another chance." It's worth noting that none of the above ex-Giants were let go under current GM Jerry Reese.

Impending free agent Amani Toomer revealed that his agent and the Giants recently had contact about a new contract, before Toomer called out the team's coaching staff and front office on Wednesday.

The Giants would've reportedly welcomed Toomer back "at the right price," but may take their offer off the table now. Toomer even admitted that "I definitely think, with the current situation, I don't think I can go back."

Amani Toomer lashed out against the Giants' coaching staff in an interview at a charity event Wednesday.

"The last couple of games I wasn't a big part of the offense and we lost a big percentage of the games," he said. "You can't tell me (that) didn't play a big role. I questioned (the coaching staff's) approach going in. Ultimately my suspicions came true. (The Giants' coaches) have an agenda." A 34-year-old impending free agent, Toomer won't be back with New York in 2009.
