Rams released DTs Fred Robbins and Justin Bannan.
The moves clear roughly $6.5 million in cap space. Robbins was due $3.75 million in 2012 after notching 29 tackles and one sack in 497 snaps last season. He graded out as the 18th best defensive tackle in the league by Pro Football Focus, and is just one year removed from a six-sack campaign. Signed to a three-year deal last July, Bannan notched 32 tackles in 15 games. Mon, Mar 12, 2012 03:22:00 PM

Rams defensive ends Chris Long and James Hall both enjoyed career years in 2010 with DT Fred Robbins anchoring the middle of the line.

Long racked up eight sacks and 57 QB pressures while the 34-year-old Hall recorded 10 sacks and six forced fumbles. Robbins contributed six sacks, 10 tackles for losses, and seven batted passes while clogging the middle. Also 34 years old, Robbins finished as Pro Football Focus' seventh-rated defensive tackle in 2010.

Rams DT Fred Robbins (toe) sat out Wednesday's practice.

It's not clear if the toe injury might keep him out in Week 8. Robbins is off to a really good start in his tenure with the Rams. His loss would be felt, especially with Clifton Ryan out for the season.

Fred Robbins was lifted from Sunday's game in the first quater with an apparent right knee injury.

Dorell Scott replaced him at nose tackle. Robbins was spotted getting treatment and a rub-down on his right knee while sitting on the bench. He was able to return at the start of the second quarter.

Fred Robbins is expected to be the Rams' starting "three-technique" interior pass rusher, next to nose tackle Cliff Ryan.

It's a position Robbins dominated in 2006-2008 for Steve Spagnuolo's Giants defenses. Robbins, though, had microfracture surgery following the 2008 season, and returned as a shell of himself last year, managing just two sacks in 16 games. It remains to be seen if the 33-year-old has anything left.

Rams agreed to terms with DT Fred Robbins on a three-year contract worth up to $12 million.

Robbins was an impact pass rusher between 2006-2008, racking up 18 sacks during those three seasons in New York. He was mostly a non-factor last year, however, managing a pair of sacks in 16 games after offseason microfracture surgery. The deal likely is heavy on incentives. The Rams would be lucky to get 25-30 quality snaps a game out of the 33-year-old.

The Rams are reportedly finalizing a deal with free agent DT Fred Robbins.

Reuniting with coach Steve Spagnuolo? The Rams aim to get bigger upfront, and Robbins (6'4/325) would provide a presence at the 3-technique tackle. If healthy, Robbins would be a boon to the team's run defense.

Free agent DT Fred Robbins is not expected to be back with the Giants in 2010.

The 33-year-old struggled to defend the run as a rotational lineman last year after undergoing microfracture knee surgery during the offseason.

Fred Robbins (microfracture surgery) will play Saturday in Chicago.

This will be Robbins' first game action this preseason after the knee injury. He was the Giants' best interior pass rusher last season, although the 32-year-old will see reduced snaps in 2009 due to an influx of DT depth.

Giants DT Fred Robbins (microfracture surgery) has been activated from the active/PUP list and resumed practicing.

Robbins, 32, will be limited for the rest of August and see reduced snaps this year. The Giants' best pure interior rusher over the last two seasons before injuries caught up with him, Robbins is probably out of the mix to start.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin "offered no promise" that DT Fred Robbins (microfracture surgery) would be ready for training camp.

Coughlin did add that Robbins recovery is on schedule. Still, the Giants may let the 32-year-old slowly work his way back after adding significant depth to the line with the additions of Chris Canty and Rocky Bernard.

Giants beat writer Ralph Vacchiano reveals that DT Fred Robbins is recovering from arthroscopic microfracture knee surgery.

This explains why the Jints forked out $58M combined to Chris Canty and Rocky Bernard. Robbins, who hasn't practiced yet this offseason, was initially said to be recovering from a simple scope. With so much depth on the defensive line, perhaps the Giants will keep Robbins on PUP into the year.

The New York Post does not believe that DT Fred Robbins will be released -- or even lose his starting job -- following the addition of Chris Canty.

The Post believes Canty would replace Barry Cofield alongside Robbins while Cofield, Jay Alford, and recently signed Rocky Bernard rotate in. We probably won't know for sure until training camp, though. Cofield is the only pure run-plugging nose tackle on the roster and will have a secure role either way.

Giants DT Fred Robbins is in danger of being released following the addition of Chris Canty.

Robbins, coming off knee surgery, is 32 and was unproductive down the stretch of last season. He can still collapse the pocket when healthy, though, and the Jints may keep him as a rotational player in the last year of his deal.

Giants DTs Fred Robbins and Barry Cofield both underwent arthroscopic surgery on their knees recently.

Their status for the offseason isn't yet known, but GM Jerry Reese said both tackles would be fine for the 2009 season. Cofield reportedly had a "complicated scope," so his recovery will likely take longer than Robbins'.
