Some New Jersey alumni players will take to the ice against coaches from the New Jersey Colonials youth hockey teams on Friday night at Mennen Arena in a charity game to benefit the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund and Morris County food banks.
Ken Daneyko, John MacLean, Sergei Brylin, Grant Marshall and Bruce Driver have committed to play for the Alumni Team in addition to Devils assistant coach Dave Barr. Head coach Pete DeBoer will either take up his mantle behind the bench or play in the game as well. Wed, Nov 14, 2012 11:03:00 AM

A judge in Essex County has issued an arrest order for former Devils' defenseman Ken Daneyko and former New York Giants Bart Oates for failure to attend four depositions and repay $150,000 of a real estate loan.

This story is definitely of the strange variety, as the two former professional athletes and another man are charged with only repaying half of a $300,000 loan from 2006 for a high-rise and condominium complex and not attending four depositions related to the debt since being ordered to pay it. "I don't feel good about doing this," said Bruce Nagel, attorney of the investor that gave them the loan. "I would like these guys who were heroes in the sports world to make good on their word and step up to the plate in this case." Daneyko retired after 18 years in the NHL, all with the Devils, in 2002-03 and was renowned as a workhorse and defensive stalwart who left the game having played the fourth most games in NHL history (1,283).

The Devils have called a press conference for this morning to announce the retirement of Ken Daneyko, reports The Star Ledger.

The 39-year-old defenseman has played all of his 18 NHL seasons with New Jersey, and is 4th all-time in games played (1283) for the same team behind Alex Delvecchio and Steve Yzerman of Detroit, and Stan Mikita of the Blackhawks. Daneyko, who was with the Devils through the lean years prior to the team's three Stanley Cup victories, will likely have his number 3 retired in a ceremony this season.

Ken Daneyko is leaning towards retirement.

The 39 year old has played in more regular season and playoff contests than any other New Jersey Devil. From a fantasy perspective Daneyko has been retired for years, so we wish him well if he decides to hang up the blades.

Ken Daneyko made his first appearance in the Cup finals last night, and was on the ice for the last minute of the game.

It was a nice touch by New Jersey coach Pat Burns to play lifetime Devil Ken Daneyko in what was likely his last NHL game.
