Kris Draper has decided to hang up his skates.
"This is the most difficult decision I’ve ever had to make because I love the game of hockey, and I love being a Red Wing," Draper said. "I consider myself one of the luckiest athletes of all time to be able to play with this organization for 17 years." Draper won the Frank J. Selke trophy and four Stanley Cups as a member of the Detroit Red Wings. He had 364 points and 790 penalty minutes in 1,157 career games with the Winnipeg Jets and Red Wings. Kris Draper will reportedly announce his retirement in the near future.

Draper was interested in re-signing with the Detroit Red Wings, but there wasn't a roster spot available for him. He never had much fantasy value, but he had a long and successful NHL career. Draper scored 161 goals and 364 points in 1,157 career games with the Winnipeg Jets and Detroit Red Wings.

Kris Draper, who is currently an unrestricted free agent, has no interest in reporting to Detroit's training camp unless he's been signed to a contract first.

"Zero chance," said Draper. "I think I've proven myself to the Red Wings organization and (general manager) Kenny (Holland) knows what I'm all about after all these years." Draper wants to re-sign with the Detroit Red Wings, but they might not have space for him on their squad. Draper plans to talk with Red Wings GM Ken Holland soon, but in the meantime, he's been preparing for the 2011-12 season. We'll keep you posted.

Unrestricted free agent Kris Draper wants to stay with Detroit, but there might not be any room for him on their roster.

"No doubt he wants to play ... and play in Detroit," Red Wings GM Ken Holland said. "We don't have any cap issues, but we have to sort out what we're doing with our 14 forwards." It's possible that Draper will agree to a two-way contract with the knowledge that he would begin the season in the minors, but be a candidate to be called up if someone gets injured, but that doesn't seem likely. However, Draper could end up retiring and accepting a job within the Red Wings' organization. We'll keep you posted.

Kris Draper is expected to know what his status is with the Detroit Red Wings in seven to 10 days.

He has met with GM Ken Holland twice and wants to return for another season with the Wings. Holland asked Draper about the possibility of taking another position with the organization, but the veteran forward's top priority right now is playing. Draper also expressed that he can't envision himself suiting up anywhere except Detroit. We'll keep you posted on what happens.

The Detroit Red Wings won't decide on Kris Draper's fate until mid-June at the earliest.

Draper turned 40 in May, but he wants to return for the 2011-12 season. The problem is Detroit already has 10 forwards under contract and they are interested in re-signing soon-to-be free agents Patrick Eaves and Drew Miller. There might not be any room for Draper on the fourth line.

Kris Draper would like to return to the Detroit Red Wings for one more season.

Draper, who turns 40 in nine more days is a part-time fourth line player at best at this stage of his career. "I'm closing in on that," Draper said about retirement. "I just want to do what's right for my family, No. 1. What's right for myself. What's right for this organization as well, which I respect so much. That's why I want to definitely have a good meeting with Kenny and talk with him." It is unlikely that Draper would play for another NHL team if Detroit declines to sign him. He has no fantasy value.

He's played in 1,138 career games, mostly for Detroit, but he's never done much offensively.
