Andrei Markov just keeps climbing Montreal's all-time assist list.
With his 407th career helper, all with the Canadiens, on Sunday Markov moved into sole possession of 10th all-time in assists in Montreal's illustrious history. He currently ranks second all-time among defenders behind Larry Robinson's 686, but it's perfectly realistic that Markov can finish nestled between Jacques Lemaire's 469 and Robinson when all is said and done. Andrei Markov reached the 20-assist milestone on Saturday.

Although Markov is 37 years old, he is still a great offensive defenseman. He reached the 50-point mark in 2014-15 and while he might not repeat that feat, his 22 points in 43 contests is still pretty impressive.

Andrei Markov doesn't believe that the lack of a captain is an issue for the Montreal Canadiens.

"I don’t see the big problem," said the longtime alternate captain. "It’s not the players’ call, it’s from the top of the organization. You should ask them, not the players. If you want to be successful, you need to have 23 leaders in the room. Twenty-three captains.". After Brian Gionta signed with the Buffalo Sabres last off-season, the Canadiens never named a new captain for the 2014-15 season.

The veteran blueliner played in Thursday's 5-4 shootout loss to the Capitals, but the team obviously feels it's more important for him to be at 100 percent for the postseason than to suit up against the Devils.
