Andrei Markov would like to finish his career with the Montreal Canadiens.
Markov has completed his three-year, $17.25 million contract. He's 38 years old, but he still was an offensive contributor in 2016-17 with six goals and 36 points in 62 games. He also had a plus-18 rating and logged 21:50 minutes per contest. He's spent his entire 990 game career with Montreal and we imagine that the two sides will be able to find a common ground during their contract talks. Apr 24 - 2:07 PM

Andrei Markov received a game misconduct late in Game 1 on Wednesday night for a spear to New York's Rick Nash.

The Canadiens' frustration boiled over in the last minute of a 2-0 loss to the Rangers. Markov was given 10-minute penalty and the NHL could look at the play to see if it warrants additional discipline.
Apr 13 - 9:31 AM

Andrei Markov won't face the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night.

Markov isn't injured, but the Canadiens will give him the night off with the playoffs right around the corner. The veteran finished the year with six goals and 30 assists in 62 games this season. Max Pacioretty, Alexander Radulov, Carey Price, Shea Weber, and Alexei Emelin are also out tonight.
Apr 8 - 10:10 AM

With his two goals Saturday night, Andrei Markov ended a 15-game goalless drought.

Markov had not scored a goal since February 18th against the Jets, so he was due. The 38-year-old rearguard is putting up another strong season with 35 points in 56 games.
Mar 26 - 10:31 AM

Andrei Markov scored two goals and had an assist in the 3-1 victory of the Canadiens over the Senators Saturday night.

Markov had a piece of all three Canadiens goals. He buried the game winner at the 1:13 mark of the second and later had an unassisted, power-play goal. Markov now has six goals and 35 points for the season.
Mar 25 - 10:55 PM

Andrei Markov could soon be forming a defense pairing with Shea Weber.

For now, Markov will continue to play with Jeff Petry, while Weber plays with Alexei Emelin. With Montreal struggling badly, that could change in the near future, according to head coach Claude Julien. "I know Shea’s played with Marky (Andrei Markov) as a pair and stuff like that," Julien said. "Certainly, something you could always go back to. Certainly an option here moving forward." Markov and Weber play together on the Canadiens' top power play unit, so they are familiar with each other.
Feb 25 - 11:33 AM

Andrei Markov picked up 25th point of the season during Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Jets.

The tally was his fourth goal of the season, giving him two goals and three points through eight games in February.
Feb 18 - 7:03 PM

Andrei Markov produced a goal and an assist in a 5-4 overtime win versus Arizona on Thursday.

His third goal of the season gave Montreal a 2-0 lead after the first period and his assist on a power-play marker by Max Pacioretty tied the game at 3-3 early in the third. Markov has three points in six games since returning to the lineup from a lower-body injury.
Feb 10 - 8:58 AM

Andrei Markov will be back in the lineup Tuesday.

He is no longer listed on injured reserve and will return from a 19-game absence when Montreal hosts Buffalo. Markov has collected 21 points in 31 games this campaign.
Jan 31 - 12:39 PM

Andrei Markov (lower body) appears to be poised to return to the lineup on Tuesday night.

He took part in Monday's practice and has been cleared medically to return from a lower-body injury. Markov has missed the last 19 contests and his status should be revealed after the morning skate.
Jan 31 - 10:34 AM

Andrei Markov resumed skating Saturday as he tries to come back from a groin muscle injury.

This is good news as Markov had stopped skating Thursday when the recovery progress had seemingly come to a halt. We do not expect Markov to return to action before the All-Star break, although a return soon thereafter is a possibility.
Jan 22 - 11:12 AM

Andrei Markov (groin) hasn't been seeing improvement lately and he will consequently stop skating.

The hope is that taking a step back will help him recover. At this stage he's also regarded as week-to-week. He last played on Dec. 17.
Jan 19 - 1:05 PM

Andrei Markov is apparently dealing with a groin injury.

He went from skating with a no-contact jersey in practice to not skating at all, which isn't a good sign even though Montreal insists the veteran defender didn't suffer a setback. Markov' return does not appear to imminent.
Jan 19 - 8:43 AM

Andrei Markov (lower body) won't play Wednesday night.

He is apparently making slow progress in his recovery, according to coach Michel Therrien. It was expected that Markov wouldn't be out much longer, but a timetable remains uncertain.
Jan 18 - 6:50 PM

Losing Andrei Markov (lower body) might be at the heart of the Canadiens' defensive woes.

Markov's absence probably can't fully account for Montreal's recent defensive decline, but the Canadiens were surrendering 2.13 goals per game before he was hurt and have given up 3.30 goals per game during his 13-contest absence. It's not clear when Markov will return, but he might not miss much more time.
