Andrei Markov scored his 100th NHL goal in Montreal's 2-0 win over Boston on Saturday.

Markov has played his entire 14-year career with the Habs and has been one of their top defensemen since he's come into the league. The 35-year-old can still produce offense. He has two goals and 10 points in 22 games this season.
Nov 23 - 12:45 PM

Andrei Markov registered a power-play goal in the Canadiens’ 2-0 win over the Bruins on Saturday night.

Markov also had two shots on goal and two penalty minutes. With two goals and 10 points in 22 games, Markov has been pretty quiet offensively this season. While he has the pedigree, it’s worth noting that he’s 37 years old and everyone in the league slows down at some point. Tomas Plekanec potted the other goal and had a helper. Brendan Gallagher assisted twice, while Alex Galchenyuk picked up the other helper.

Veteran Andrei Markov leads the Habs in time on ice.

You read that right. The soon-to-be 36-year-old defenseman with two wonky knees has been an ironman of sorts this season. Markov is averaging 25:47 minutes per game, 43 seconds more than P.K. Subban. He has four points in 11 games and a plus four plus/minus rating.
Nov 1 - 10:51 AM

Andrei Markov is one point behind Doug Harvey for a share of third place among Montreal Canadiens defensemen.

Larry Robinson leads the pack with a whopping point total of 883, while Guy Lapointe is next at 572. Markov has been held pointless in his past five games and needs one to reach 447 for his career. He also needs one goal to reach 100.
Oct 31 - 10:42 AM

Andrei Markov was phenomenal in Montreal’s 4-3 shootout win over the Philadelphia Flyers, according to his head coach Michel Therrien.

Markov registered a goal and two assists in the win and played a team-high 27:46 in the game. "Andrei Markov was phenomenal," Therrien said. "He made some great plays. He scored the first goal and he made a great pass on Plekanec’s goal. He has the vision to make those plays." The three points were his first points of the season. He is also plus-five in three games this season. He is a must-own in standard leagues.
Oct 12 - 8:48 AM

Andrei Markov led the way for the Canadiens in their come-from-behind 4-3 shootout win against the Flyers on Saturday night.

Markov scored and had two assists. Montreal trailed 3-0 in the third period, then stormed back with three goals in 7 minutes, 35 seconds. Markov’s goal was the first one of the comeback. Tomas Plekanec scored and assisted as well, with Alex Galchenyuk notching the other goal. One of those great wins on the road, Montreal fired 19 shots in the third period, giving up just four.
Oct 11 - 11:31 PM

Current Senator and former head coach/hockey analyst Jacques Demers believes that Andrei Markov should be the next captain of the Montreal Canadiens.

If he was given the "C" then he would be one of only two Russian captains in the NHL, with Washington's Alex Ovechkin being the other. Other options for the team's captaincy could include P.K. Subban or Tomas Plekanec.
Aug 18 - 10:09 AM

Andrei Markov has signed a three-year, $17.25 million contract with the Montreal Canadiens.

That's identical to his previous contract. When he signed his last deal, there were some concerns given his, at the time, recent injury history. He's been healthy for the last two seasons, but his age is a concern now, given that he'll turn 36 in December. Still, he scored seven goals and 43 points in 81 games last season while averaging 25:14 minutes, so it seems likely that he would have commanded just as much on the open market.

Andrei Markov's agent doesn't expect anything to happen soon with his client.

Markov is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 and it wouldn't be surprising to see him test the waters. He's reportedly seeking a three-year, $18 million contract.

Andrei Markov is reportedly asking for a three-year, $18 million contract extension.

That might be a little rich for the Canadiens' tastes, given that Markov will turn 36 in December. Still, Markov excelled last season with seven goals and 43 points in 81 games, so he might get something in that range on the open market.
Jun 18 - 10:36 AM

According to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports, Andrei Markov is not close to a new deal with the Montreal Canadiens.

The two sides appear to be interested in reaching an agreement, though. Markov is eligible for unrestricted free agency in July.
Jun 7 - 6:02 PM

Andrei Markov's agent, Sergei Berezin, thinks a new contract will be reached with the Montreal Canadiens.

"We know what Habs management wants, and they know what Andrei wants," Berezin said. "There are no surprises and I am optimistic in this case, the main reason being that In a translated piece from La Presse, Berezin said: "I feel the team wishes to keep Andrei, and Andrei wants to remain with this team. That's what's important to understand. The rest are just details we need to work out." Markov has played all 765 games of his NHL career with Montreal. He recorded seven goals and 43 points in 81 matches in 2013-14.
Jun 7 - 2:12 PM

Andrei Markov is eligible for unrestricted free agency in July and his future with the Canadiens isn't clear at this moment.

Montreal GM Marc Bergevin wouldn't talk about his pending free agents, but he did hint that training camp would be spirited with defensemen Nathan Beaulieu, Greg Pateryn and Jarred Tinordi set to compete for roster spots. Francis Bouillon, Doug Murray and Mike Weaver can also become UFAs next month, so expect to see some new faces on the Habs' back end next season.
Jun 6 - 8:01 AM

Andrei Markov registered three assists in Montreal's 7-4 victory on Tuesday.

That gives Markov a goal and 10 points in 16 playoff games. He's 35 years old, but Markov hasn't been lucky enough to enjoy many long postseason runs in his career. In fact, he had participated in just 54 playoff contests going into the 2013-14 campaign.
