Montreal Canadiens owner Geoff Molson was sad to see Andrei Markov leave the organization.
Markov had been with the Canadiens since the 2000-01 season, but he and the organization went their separate ways this off-season (he signed with AK Bars Kazan). "We're sad to see him leave the team to go play elsewhere," said Molson. "It's disappointing, but the time had come (for us to go our separate ways). We thank Markov for everything he did during his years with the Canadiens." Markov's KHL contract is two years long, so it's entirely possible that he never returns to the NHL again. Aug 31 - 8:26 PM

Andrei Markov has reportedly agreed to a two-year contract with Ak Bars Kazan of the KHL.

Markov didn't announce what KHL team he would be joining because a contract had not been finalized yet, but a report on Friday from R-Sport stated it would be Ak Bars Kazan. It's unclear if would stay for two seasons or if he can opt out after the first year. The 38-year-old defender wanted to play for the Canadiens, but they decided to part ways.

Andrei Markov will head back to Russia and play in the KHL during the 2017-18 campaign.

Markov announced his decision Thursday after the Canadiens decided not to sign him. He probably would have attracted interest from other NHL teams, but he has passed on those opportunities and should represent Russia in the Olympics.
Jul 27 - 2:21 PM

Andrei Markov will not be back with the Canadiens in 2017-18.

Montreal made the announcement on Thursday morning. Markov had spent his entire 16-year NHL career with the Canadiens, while skating in 990 games. The 38-year-old blueliner has 572 total points, which includes the six goals and 36 points he generated in 62 appearances last year. Markov should be able to find another team on the open market.

Former NHLer Sergei Berezin believes that Andrei Markov still has plenty of hockey left in him.

Markov, who is currently an unrestricted free agent, is reportedly seeking a two-year contract, but Berezin thinks that the 38-year-old defender wants to play longer than that. "It all depends on how he feels inside," Berezin said. "You can see his eyes are still burning and he has the fire. I would imagine another, I don't know, five, six years, easy. The way he works, the way he wants to work is just unbelievable ... it's amazing. I've never seen anybody like it. Nobody I played with, nobody I work with ... nobody I know." Markov has been representing himself in negotiations, but Berezin has been helping his friend out as an adviser and he has been serving as an off-season trainer. Markov had 36 points in 62 games for the Canadiens last year.

Flyers GM Ron Hextall denied reports that Philadelphia has been pursuing Andrei Markov.

"Don’t believe everything you read or hear," Hextall said. "I haven’t talked to Andrei Markov." In general, Hextall isn't looking to add veterans to short-term contracts as he'd rather give one of the Flyers' prospects an opportunity to play with the squad. As for Markov, he still might end up re-signing with Montreal, which is the only franchise he's played for during his NHL career.
Jul 6 - 5:03 AM

Although he did not sign a contract with Montreal on Saturday it is still possible that Andrei Markov could ink a deal with the Habs on Sunday.

In fact, many hockey experts in Montreal still believe it is likely Markov will ultimately return to the Canadiens and it could be as soon as Sunday. Stay tuned for further updates.

The Montreal Canadiens and pending unrestricted free agent Andrei Markov are reportedly at an "impasse" when it comes to contract talks.

Markov has been a member of the Canadiens since the 2000-01 season. He's never left the club or even hit free agency during his career, but that might change as of tomorrow. The 38-year-old is reportedly looking for a two-year contract, but Montreal is apprehensive about the second year. It'll be interesting to see how this all shakes out.
Jun 30 - 7:42 PM

Andrei Markov is reportedly looking for a two-year deal from the Montreal Canadiens.

Markov will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1st unless the two sides can get something done before then. The 38-year-old is closer to the end of his career than the beginning, but he showed that he's still capable of being a top four defenseman in the NHL. Markov had six goals and 36 points while averaging 21:50 of ice time in 62 games last season. A multi-year deal with a 38-year-old is always risky, but it might be in Montreal's best interest to get this done.
Jun 24 - 1:10 PM

Andrei Markov would like to finish his career with the Montreal Canadiens.

Markov has completed his three-year, $17.25 million contract. He's 38 years old, but he still was an offensive contributor in 2016-17 with six goals and 36 points in 62 games. He also had a plus-18 rating and logged 21:50 minutes per contest. He's spent his entire 990 game career with Montreal and we imagine that the two sides will be able to find a common ground during their contract talks.
Apr 24 - 2:07 PM

Andrei Markov received a game misconduct late in Game 1 on Wednesday night for a spear to New York's Rick Nash.

The Canadiens' frustration boiled over in the last minute of a 2-0 loss to the Rangers. Markov was given 10-minute penalty and the NHL could look at the play to see if it warrants additional discipline.
Apr 13 - 9:31 AM

Andrei Markov won't face the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night.

Markov isn't injured, but the Canadiens will give him the night off with the playoffs right around the corner. The veteran finished the year with six goals and 30 assists in 62 games this season. Max Pacioretty, Alexander Radulov, Carey Price, Shea Weber, and Alexei Emelin are also out tonight.
Apr 8 - 10:10 AM

With his two goals Saturday night, Andrei Markov ended a 15-game goalless drought.

Markov had not scored a goal since February 18th against the Jets, so he was due. The 38-year-old rearguard is putting up another strong season with 35 points in 56 games.
Mar 26 - 10:31 AM

Andrei Markov scored two goals and had an assist in the 3-1 victory of the Canadiens over the Senators Saturday night.

Markov had a piece of all three Canadiens goals. He buried the game winner at the 1:13 mark of the second and later had an unassisted, power-play goal. Markov now has six goals and 35 points for the season.
