Oct 22 - 4:33 PM

John Erskine sustained an undisclosed injury during Tuesday's practice.

Erskine hasn't played yet this season and has no fantasy value in standard leagues when he's healthy. He's day-to-day for now.
Oct 21 - 5:17 PM

John Erskine wants to forget last season as he had a tough time coming back from knee surgery.

Erskine told then-coach Adam Oates that he was not in game shape but his pleas were ignored and he got off to a terrible start in which he never recovered. The Capitals benched him for weeks on time and it's only now that he is feeling like his old self. "It's hard," he said. "When someone went wide on me I didn't have that explosive power. Over this summer I had a lot of time to work on it and it feels a lot better than it did last year." Erskine was minus-five in 37 games and had only four points. He should get over 100 penalty minutes this season if he remains healthy so he does have some fantasy value.
Sep 21 - 10:41 AM

John Erskine (upper body) returned to action on Saturday March 29.

Erskine missed one game as the Capitals were concerned he may have had a concussion but he passed all the baseline tests. He played 13:51 minutes and picked up an assist to give him four points including one goal in 36 games.
Mar 30 - 2:26 AM

John Erskine isn't expected to play Saturday night after he skated with the team's scratches in the morning.

He passed concussion protocol testing after he sat out Thursday's game as a precaution. It was though that he might have been concussed in a melee with Philadelphia players on Wednesday.
Mar 8 - 3:24 PM

John Erskine will miss Thursday's game because of an upper-body injury.

He received a game misconduct for an altercation with Vincent Lecavalier and Wayne Simmonds in Thursday's game versus Philadelphia. Cameron Schilling is expected to take his spot in the lineup.
Mar 6 - 4:53 PM

John Erskine is slated to play in Thursday's road game against Florida.

He missed two games prior to break with an undisclosed injury. He is projected to play on the third pairing with Connor Carrick.
Feb 27 - 3:36 PM

John Erskine won't play Thursday because of some wear and tear on his surgically repaired knee from the off-season.

"He's come back and he's taken a lot of bumps and bruises. It's a little achy," coach Adam Oates said of Erskine. "So we're going to give him a little rest to kind of replenish and get it back." He may sit out Saturday' game against New Jersey as well.
Feb 6 - 1:05 PM

John Erskine scored his first goal of the season Saturday in a 5-0 whitewash of the Montreal Canadiens.

Erskine was one of three Capitals to score their first of the season as Casey Wellman and Jay Beagle also found the back of the net. Erskine has little fantasy value as he has three points in 26 games with 31 penalty minutes and a minus-one rating.
Jan 26 - 10:44 AM

John Erskine (knee) is expected to return to the Washington lineup Sunday.

Erskine had off-season surgery to repair his knee and had trouble at the start of the season with only one assist in seven games with a minus-four rating and 12 penalty minutes. We can't recommend him at this time.

John Erskine is focused on strengthening his surgically-repaired knee while he remains on the long-term injured reserve list.

"There's pain but I can play with pain. I don't want to go back out there and be two steps behind and hurt the team," said Erskine. He's now eligible to be activated at any time, but that probably won't happen in the near future.

John Erskine (knee) is eligible to return from the long-term injured reserve list on Wednesday, but he's not ready.

Capitals coach Adam Oates said that Erskine is feeling better, but there's no timetable for his return. Erskine said recently that he's "playing it day by day."

John Erskine is not close to returning from a knee injury.

Erskine was placed on the long-term injured list in October and was hoping to return on November 20 when he was first eligible to return. "I hope I'm back by then but I'm just playing it day by day," Erskine said. "I've only had three weeks off so it's not going to feel like it's night and day, where I come back and it's 100 percent. I've got to try my best to get it taken care of." He has one assist and 12 penalty minutes in seven games.
