Shawn Horcoff has been providing the Stars with superb leadership.
His linemates, Curtis McKenzie and Brett Ritchie, have benefited from Horcoff's teachings. "We're trying to get these guys to the level they need to be at, and I take that very seriously," Horcoff said. "I benefited from some older guys helping me when I was young, so I want to pass that on." He has also contributed two goals and two assists in his past six games. Mar 18 - 12:37 PM

Shawn Horcoff snapped a five-game pointless drought with a goal and an assist in Thursday night's 4-3 shootout win over Florida.

The veteran has 23 points in 61 games in what has been an up-and-down year for Horcoff. On one hand, he's already three points ahead of last year's points output, but the Stars are eight points and three teams back of the final Wild Card spot in the West.

Shawn Horcoff knows he could be traded, but he's hoping to stay in Dallas.

"My best situation is we win some games and you don't trade anybody," said the 36-year-old center, who can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer. "That's what I would prefer." Erik Cole is another possible trade candidate who would like to remain with the Stars.

The type and severity of his illness is not yet known, but it doesn't appear to be terribly serious. Horcoff has five goals and 13 points through 38 games this season, and thusly no longer has any more fantasy value.

Shawn Horcoff appears to be penciled in to play left wing on the fourth line this season.

If the Stars want to shake up their lines at some point then he could end up skating with Jason Spezza and Ales Hemsky. Horcoff played with Hemsky in Edmonton, but a move to the second line would be a significant jump after averaged just 12:51 of ice time last season. He recorded just seven goals and 20 points in 77 games. Horcoff ended the year well with a team-leading six points in the playoffs. However, it's unlikely he'll chip in much offensively in 2014-15 while serving as a decent depth forward for the Stars.
