Mattias Weinhandl has been placed on re-entry waivers with the hopes that another team will claim him.
If he is claimed by a team, the Wild would be on the hook for half of his remaining salary, which makes making a claim more appealing. If he is not claimed, he will simply return to Houston of the AHL. Either way, he should not be on your fantasy roster. Wed, Dec 13, 2006 12:33:00 PM

Mattias Weinhandl was placed on waivers Friday to make room for the return of Pavol Demitra Saturday.

When asked if he would report to the AHL if not claimed by another team, or return to Sweden, Weinhandl said he did not know yet. Weinhandl has only two points in twelve games with the Wild this season, so this should not affect any fantasy teams. Minnesota, which is only $40,000 under the salary cap will free up some room regardless of the outcome.

Mattias Weinhandl has been cleared to play, only nine days after suffering a concussion.

Coach Jacques Lemaire will decide after practice on Tuesday as to whether or not Weinhandl will be back in the lineup for Wednesday's game against Los Angeles. Just an FYI as Weinhandl does not have any significant fantasy value.

Mattias Weinhandl has a concussion, courtesy of a big hit by Manny Malhotra on Saturday.

The Wild will call up someone from the minors for Weinhandl as they embark on a Western road trip. Danny Irmen or Wyatt Smith are the likeliest to be enlisted. Neither have any fantasy value. Get Weinhandl out of your lineup if he is active.

In the words of Wild coach Jacques Lemaire, forward Mattias Weinhandl will be "out a while" after getting crushed by Jackets center Manny Malhotra.

Weinhandl has some offensive skills, but is not high up on our list of fantasy contributors. If for some reason you were looking at him for your team, stop.

Mattias Weinhandl played on a line with Todd White and Brian Rolston.

This marked Weinhandl's first game with the Wild since being claimed on waivers on March 4th. He has shown offensive instincts in the past, and will get a chance to prove himself again playing with two solid veterans.

Wild claimed Mattias Weinhandl off waivers today.

Weinhandl had two goals and six points in 53 games with the Islanders, hardly numbers worth writing home about. However, if anyone in Lgunby, Sweden is reading, apparently that just happened. He is not a fantasy consideration at this time.

Mattias Weinhandl has not played since interim Brad Shaw took over three games ago.

He is a marginal NHLer at best. We are surprised it took the Islanders this long to figure that out. It is obvious that Weinhandl is worthless from a fantasy perspective, so if you have him on your fantasy squad and haven't dropped him, what are you waiting for?

Mattias Weinhandl was a healthy scratch for the first time this season.

Well its about time! The 25-year-old forward, who sat in the press box last night, has scored only two goals in 42 games and seems destined to play in Bridgeport.

Islander have re-signed Mattias Weinhandl to a 2 year/$1.4 million contract.

The 26 year-old Weinhandl had 8 goals and 20 points in 55 games with the Islanders in 2003/04, but scored a league-leading 26 goals and 46 points in 50 games with MoDo in the Swedish Elite League last season. If given an opportunity on one of the Islanders' top two lines, Weinhandl could surprise this season, so wait and see where he lines up in training camp before writing him off as having no fantasy value this year.

Mattias Weinhandl scored a goal and registered an assist in MoDo's 3-3 tie with Brynas in SEL action yesterday.

The Islanders are going to have to seriously think about elevating Weinhandl to one of their scoring lines when the NHL resumes play. MoDo goaltender Tommy Salo rebounded from a weak performance earlier this week by stopping 32 of 35 shots in Thursday's contest.

Mattias Weinhandl scored twice in MoDo's 3-2 loss to Frolunda in SEL action yesterday.

The Islanders' winger has played very well on a line with Peter Forsberg, who assisted on both of Weinhandl's markers in yesterday's contest.
