Mike Commodore has signed a one-year deal with Admiral Vladivostok of the KHL.
Commodore will play for the eastern most team in the KHL so the plane rides will be long ones. He played 17 games last season for the Hamilton Bulldogs where he had two assists and then played five games with the Texas Stars and managed a couple of goals. The soon to be 34-year-old may have seen his last action in the NHL. Wed, Oct 16, 2013 03:07:00 PM

Mike Commodore was released by the AHL Hamilton Bulldogs.

Commodore was on a 25-game professional tryout deal with Hamilton, which is Montreal's AHL affiliate. Commodore is now an unrestricted free agent and we'll have to see if any NHL team wants to take a flier on him.

Mike Commodore is expected to be invited to Montreal's training camp, according to TSN's sister station RDS.

He agreed to a 25-game professional tryout with the Canadiens' AHL affiliate in Hamilton in November and has played 13 contests with the Bulldogs so far. During that time he has picked up one assist and a minus-3 rating. He should be considered a longshot to stick with Montreal though.

Mike Commodore decided to play in the AHL to continue playing and to catch on with an NHL club when the work stoppage ends.

"I need to be playing, in my opinion, if I want to have a good chance of continuing my career," said Commodore, who signed a 25-game professional tryout with the Hamilton Bulldogs. "So here I am." He was unrestricted free agent when the lockout began and will be looking for a new team once a new CBA is agreed upon.

Mike Commodore has inked a professional tryout contract with the AHL Hamilton Bulldogs.

Commodore has 106 points and 683 penalty minutes in 484 career NHL games. He wasn't able to get a new NHL deal over the summer, so he entered the lockout as an unrestricted free agent.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired Mike Commodore from the Detroit Red Wings for a conditional seventh-round draft pick.

Seems like an odd move for Steve Yzerman and the Lightning considering they've been sellers up to this point and just decided to take on a depth defenseman with one year left on his deal at a $1 million cap hit. Commodore has played just 17 games with the Wings this season, tallying only two assists and 21 penalty minutes, but he'll certainly get an opportunity to play more in Tampa Bay. Regardless, there's no fantasy value here. From Detroit's side, it's a salary dump that sets them up for possibly something bigger as the 3 p.m. deadline strikes.

Mike Commodore and Jakub Kindl are expected to compete for the sixth blueliner spot in Detroit's depth charts.

"Someone should grab (the position)," Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said. "It's what I would do if I were one of them." Commodore got a shot to do just that on Tuesday. He logged 9:56 minutes and spent five in the sin bin after fighting Tim Jackman.

Mike Commodore got just his second assist of the season on Wednesday.

Commodore will enter the All-Star break with two points in 14 games. He came into the 2011-12 season looking to prove that he still has something to contribute after Columbus sent him to the minors in 2010-11 and later bought out the remainder of his contract. The fact that things haven't played out as he might have hoped can be partially blamed on injuries, but not entirely. On a team as skilled as the Red Wings, Commodore alternates between being the sixth and seventh blueliner on the depth charts.

Mike Commodore will be in the lineup Saturday night against Columbus.

He will take the spot of Jakub Kindl, who will be a healthy scratch. Could there be a Jared Boll/Commodore rumble? Stay tuned.

Mike Commodore (foot) won't play Saturday against Chicago.

The hope is that he will be able to return to action Monday against Buffalo. He has not seen any game action since last weekend after blocking a shot with his right foot, although he did dress Tuesday and sat on the bench the entire game as the Wings' were short players.

Mike Commodore (ankle) is projected to be a game-time decision for Thursday's game against the Phoenix Coyotes.

He suffered a bruised left ankle while blocking a shot earlier this week. Commodore has one assist and a plus-4 rating in 10 games with Detroit this campaign.

Mike Commodore played in his third straight game on Tuesday.

Commodore had played in only three games this season before getting back into the lineup as he had been a healthy scratch since November 15 before returning to action on December 22. "He's just been steady and played," coach Mike Babcock said of Commodore. "It's the same in all sport and all life's jobs -- Mike wasn't getting a chance. He worked hard, he kept his mouth shut and he competed every day and someone else gave him an opportunity and he's grabbed it. So now he's got to hang on to it." On the Red Wings, Commodore should get a few penalty minutes and have a good plus/minus, so he could be worth a shot in very deep leagues that use those categories.

Mike Commodore played for the first time since November 15 on Thursday.

It was only the fourth game of the season for the defenseman who has been a healthy scratch since his last outing. He played 13:17 minutes and was plus-one with a couple of blocked shots. He replaced Jakub Kindl in the lineup.
