Erik Cole (upper body) didn't take part in Friday's practice.

Cole should be regarded as doubtful for Saturday and Sunday's contests. He was hurt during Tuesday's game against Arizona. With him sidelined, Gustav Nyquist has gotten playing time with Justin Abdelkader and Henrik Zetterberg.
Mar 27 - 12:23 PM

Erik Cole (upper body) is expected to miss at least Detroit's next three games.

Cole sustained the injury during Tuesday's contest against the Arizona Coyotes. What makes this particularly unfortunate news is the fact that he had been given a golden opportunity to succeed with Detroit as he has logged regular minutes with Justin Abdelkader and Henrik Zetterberg since being acquired from Dallas. He has 21 goals and 39 points in 68 games this season. With Cole sidelined, Gustav Nyquist might join Zetterberg's line.

Erik Cole suffered an upper-body injury in Tuesday's game versus the Arizona Coyotes.

He exited the match late in the first period after he appeared to fall awkwardly during a scrum near the post. Cole wasn't able to return after logging just 5:32 of ice time.
Mar 25 - 9:21 AM

Erik Cole scored in Detroit's 2-1 overtime win over St. Louis on Sunday.

His 21st goal of the season, and third in 10 games with the Red Wings, tied the game at 1-1 just 24 seconds into the third period. Cole has six points since being acquired from Dallas.
Mar 23 - 11:35 AM

Detroit coach Mike Babcock is expecting more out of Erik Cole.

Cole is getting the chance to play in the Wings' top six and on the power-play and although he has scored tiwce in the past week, Babcock wants to see more. "I need Coler to win more battles," Babcock said. "I need him to be physical and win more battles and win more puck battles, and if he does that, he can help our team. He's got the ability to do that, so he needs to do that." It remains to be seen if Cole still has it in him to be that kind of player.
Mar 21 - 10:58 AM

Erik Cole notched his fifth point in eight games with the Red Wings, scoring in the team's 3-1 loss to Florida on Thursday night.

The 36-year-old has shown he still has some hockey left in him, with 38 points in 65 games so far this season, nine points higher than his total from last year. Cole had 14:52 of ice time in the loss.
Mar 19 - 10:35 PM

Erik Cole scored his first goal as a member of the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday.

It's nice to see Cole contributing with his new team, but the goal came with the Red Wings already trailing 5-1 in the contest. Cole has four points in his last five games and six in his last seven. The 36-year-old has 19 goals and 37 points in 63 games with Dallas and Detroit this season.
Mar 15 - 12:22 PM

Erik Cole recorded two assists in a 5-2 loss to Calgary Friday night.

It was Cole's second game with Detroit and his first two points with his new team. He was acquired on March 1 from the Dallas Stars and has been playing alongside Justin Abdelkader and Henrik Zetterberg.
Mar 7 - 10:38 AM

The Detroit Red Wings have put newcomer Erik Cole on a line with Henrik Zetterberg and Justin Abdelkader.

Detroit acquired Cole from Dallas on Sunday. He did get some playing time with Jason Spezza during his time with the Stars, but he also occasionally slipped to the third line. This situation is worth keeping an eye on because if Cole consistently plays with Zetterberg for the remainder of the season then he should finish on a high note. That all being said, Zetterberg has been suffering from a concussion, so we might have to wait a game or two before they end up playing together. As it is, Zetterberg is questionable for Wednesday's game. Cole's presence also hurts Gustav Nyquist, who has moved to the third line.
Mar 3 - 4:39 PM

Detroit GM Ken Holland feels Erik Cole's addition improves his lineup.

"We're very pleased, he gives us another dimension," said Holland. "He's a top-six, top-nine forward, who pushes everyone up. He can play with anybody, he gives size and a physical presence, and he's scored 18 goals." Depending on Darren Helm's status, Cole could line up on one of Detroit's top-two lines when he makes his debut.
Mar 2 - 8:23 AM

The Dallas Stars have traded Erik Cole and a conditional third round pick to the Detroit Red Wings for prospects Mattias Backman, Mattas Janmark and a 2nd round pick in 2015.

The 36-year-old is in the final year of his contract. He has 18 goals and 33 points in 57 games with the Stars this season. He is a big body who will add some good depth on the wing for Detroit. Cole has 14 points in 46 career playoff games. He won the Stanley Cup with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2005-06.
Mar 1 - 7:36 PM

Erik Cole skated on the Stars' top line with Jason Spezza and Jamie Benn during Sunday's morning skate.

The Stars are hosting the Ducks on Sunday and it looks like Cole will play on the first line. With the Stars out of the playoff picture, many "insiders" believe that Cole will be moved between now and Monday's trade deadline. The 36-year-old has 18 goals and 33 points this season. He is a free-agent at season's end.
Mar 1 - 2:47 PM

Erik Cole is generating widespread interest, according to ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun.

Cole, an unrestricted free agent, has a partial no-trade clause, with most of his approved teams in the Eastern Conference. That hasn’t proven to be an issue, LeBrun said, and he thinks the Stars would be able to work something out if a team not on his list offered a good enough package. Cole has 18 goals and 33 points this season.
Feb 28 - 8:42 PM

Erik Cole is the subject of many trade rumors.

Given that the Stars are virtually out of the playoff hunt and that the 36-year-old Cole is an unrestricted free agent after the season, odds are good Cole will plying his trade for one of the many teams that are looking for forward help.
