Erik Cole (upper body) probably won't be able to return to Dallas' lineup immediately after the All-Star break ends.
No update has been given in Cole's case, but it is possible that the Stars' forward will be out for weeks. Cole suffered the injury after he crashed into the boards on Tuesday night against Boston. The 36-year-old has 12 goals and 23 points in 44 games. If the Stars are out of the playoff picture before the March 2nd trade deadline, it is entirely possible that they would move Cole. Erik Cole is viewed as a possible trade candidate for the Stars.

He can become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year and it's unclear at this time if Dallas plans to keep him. Cole is out right now with an upper-body injury, but prior to getting hurt he had been playing his best hockey of the year on a line with Jason Spezza and Ales Hemsky.

Erik Cole sustained an upper-body injury in Tuesday's loss to Boston.

He exited the game after just 3:12 of playing time. Coach Lindy Ruff said afterward that Cole could be sidelined for "period of time" that's probably longer than shorter. Cole had been surging offensively with seven goals and six assists in his previous 13 games.
Jan 21 - 10:34 AM

Erik Cole scored a goal and an assist in Saturday's 5-3 win.

Cole now has four points in his last three games. His first period goal gave the Stars a 2-0, and he registered an assist on Jason Spezza's second period goal. The 36-year-old's production has dropped off in the last few seasons, but he is on pace to score 21 goals this season.
Jan 18 - 10:44 AM

Erik Cole (illness) returned to the Stars' lineup on Tuesday.

Cole missed Saturday's contest due to the disease. He had a goal and an assist in a 5-4 victory against Ottawa.
Jan 14 - 1:39 AM

Erik Cole (illness) took part in Monday's practice.

Cole might end up playing a significant role in Tuesday's game if he's healthy enough to return. That's because Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn and Vernon Fiddler are all questionable for the contest after staying off the ice Monday. Cole has nine goals and 18 points in 39 contests in 2014-15.
Jan 12 - 5:56 PM

Erik Cole is a late scratch for the Dallas Stars because of an illness.

Cole has nine goals and 18 points along with 12 PIM in 39 games so far this season. It sounds like Shawn Horcoff might move up the lineup in his absence.
Jan 10 - 3:03 PM

Erik Cole, who missed practice for general maintenance on Friday, is expected to play Saturday afternoon against Colorado.

He will lineup on the Stars' second line alongside Jason Spezza and Ales Hemsky. If you need Cole, keep him active.
Jan 10 - 1:13 PM

Erik Cole scored two goals and an assist in Sunday’s 5-4 overtime loss to Chicago.

Cole scored two big goals for the Stars, as his second period goal gave Dallas a 3-2 lead, and his third period goal put his team up 4-3. Unfortunately, the Stars couldn’t hold on for the win. Chicago’s Brad Richards scored a goal with under four minutes remaining in regulation, and Patrick Sharp scored the overtime winner. Cole has nine goals and nine assists in 37 games this season.
Jan 4 - 10:44 PM

Erik Cole finally found his stride on Tuesday as he scored a pair of goals in the Stars' 6-3 win over Vancouver.

Cole has registered one measly point through his first four games and had been continuously been bounced between different sets of linemates in the process. Hopefully, the chemistry he developed with fellow veteran Shawn Horcoff will allow the pair to remain together for the foreseeable future. Jamie Benn, Ryan Garbutt, Cody Eakin and Tyler Seguin all joined in on the fun in this game by finding the back of the net in the win.

Despite being in Dallas' coach Lindy Ruff's doghouse to start the season, Erik Cole may get another chance to play on the team's second line Saturday night against the Predators.

He was late for practice on Monday and was a healthy scratch for Wednesday night's game. However, with Tyler Seguin off sick Friday, Cole was moved up to play alongside Jason Spezza and Ales Hemsky. Seguin is expected to play Saturday, but Cole may stick on the second unit in place of Patrick Eaves, who may be a healthy scratch.

Erik Cole will be a healthy scratch in Thursday's regular season opener.

Cole chose to visit his family in Raleigh, N.C. on Sunday, but his flight back on Monday was delayed so he was late for practice. Patrick Eaves will get a chance to play on the second line, with Jason Spezza and Ales Hemsky, in Cole's place. However, Cole may return to the second unit when he returns. "I think Erik has had a good preseason, he's missed some great opportunities, but he's skated well and played well," said coach Lindy Ruff. "I've told him that I think pulling him out hurts us, because of where we were playing him, but at the same time I have a team to run, and everybody has to respect that there's rules and you have to be places."

Erik Cole is a candidate to play on the second line this season.

That could put him on the same unit as Jason Spezza and Valeri Nichushkin. However, his lack of playing time during the postseason suggests that he could be relegated to a lesser role this year. Cole was also viewed as a potential top-line winger going into 2013-14, but that didn't work out. Brett Ritchie, Colton Sceviour Antoine Roussel, or Ryan Garbutt are possibilities for the second line this coming season as well. It will be an interesting competition to watch at training camp.

The Dallas Stars won't buy out the final season of Erik Cole's contract.

Cole scored just 16 goals and 29 points in 75 games in 2013-14. We wouldn't bet on the 35-year-old bouncing back next season.
Tue, Jun 17, 2014 09:06:00 AM

Sabres coach Lindy Ruff confirmed that Erik Cole was a healthy scratch and not an injured player on Monday.

Cole logged 10:11 minutes in Game 2 on Friday. The 35-year-old forward has declined steeply over the last couple of seasons after recording 61 points in 2011-2012. We wouldn't count on him bouncing back next season.
