Erik Cole finally found his stride on Tuesday as he scored a pair of goals in the Stars' 6-3 win over Vancouver.
Cole has registered one measly point through his first four games and had been continuously been bounced between different sets of linemates in the process. Hopefully, the chemistry he developed with fellow veteran Shawn Horcoff will allow the pair to remain together for the foreseeable future. Jamie Benn, Ryan Garbutt, Cody Eakin and Tyler Seguin all joined in on the fun in this game by finding the back of the net in the win. Oct 22 - 12:46 AM

Despite being in Dallas' coach Lindy Ruff's doghouse to start the season, Erik Cole may get another chance to play on the team's second line Saturday night against the Predators.

He was late for practice on Monday and was a healthy scratch for Wednesday night's game. However, with Tyler Seguin off sick Friday, Cole was moved up to play alongside Jason Spezza and Ales Hemsky. Seguin is expected to play Saturday, but Cole may stick on the second unit in place of Patrick Eaves, who may be a healthy scratch.
Oct 11 - 12:41 PM

Erik Cole will be a healthy scratch in Thursday's regular season opener.

Cole chose to visit his family in Raleigh, N.C. on Sunday, but his flight back on Monday was delayed so he was late for practice. Patrick Eaves will get a chance to play on the second line, with Jason Spezza and Ales Hemsky, in Cole's place. However, Cole may return to the second unit when he returns. "I think Erik has had a good preseason, he's missed some great opportunities, but he's skated well and played well," said coach Lindy Ruff. "I've told him that I think pulling him out hurts us, because of where we were playing him, but at the same time I have a team to run, and everybody has to respect that there's rules and you have to be places."
Oct 9 - 3:27 PM

Erik Cole is a candidate to play on the second line this season.

That could put him on the same unit as Jason Spezza and Valeri Nichushkin. However, his lack of playing time during the postseason suggests that he could be relegated to a lesser role this year. Cole was also viewed as a potential top-line winger going into 2013-14, but that didn't work out. Brett Ritchie, Colton Sceviour Antoine Roussel, or Ryan Garbutt are possibilities for the second line this coming season as well. It will be an interesting competition to watch at training camp.
Aug 20 - 3:59 PM

The Dallas Stars won't buy out the final season of Erik Cole's contract.

Cole scored just 16 goals and 29 points in 75 games in 2013-14. We wouldn't bet on the 35-year-old bouncing back next season.
Jun 17 - 9:06 AM

Sabres coach Lindy Ruff confirmed that Erik Cole was a healthy scratch and not an injured player on Monday.

Cole logged 10:11 minutes in Game 2 on Friday. The 35-year-old forward has declined steeply over the last couple of seasons after recording 61 points in 2011-2012. We wouldn't count on him bouncing back next season.
Apr 22 - 4:35 PM

Erik Cole might be a healthy scratch on Monday in Game 3.

He did not skate in a regular shift with the Stars' 12 forwards and stayed out a little later during the session. Coach Lindy Ruff didn't tip his hand about his lineup. He was asked why Cole stayed on the ice longer and he said: "Probably just getting some extra work, I guess. He hasn't played a lot." He saw 10:11 of ice time in Game 2 and 11:10 in Game 1. Chris Mueller may be taking his spot.
Apr 21 - 6:17 PM

Erik Cole (upper body) returned to action Saturday.

Cole missed seven games with the upper body injury and played 13:22 minutes with 4:27 coming on the power play in a 5-2 win. He was pointless and has 16 goals and 29 points in 61 games this season. Put him back in your lineup if you normally would.
Apr 6 - 2:35 AM

Erik Cole (upper body) is considered a game-time decision on Saturday.

Cole has been out for seven consecutive contests. He has 16 goals and 29 points in 60 games this season.
Apr 5 - 1:24 PM

Erik Cole (upper body) might not be able to play Saturday.

"That is a tough one. We're hopeful, but I don't know. I don't know," Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. "He's working hard trying to fight through it, but he hasn't been through a real practice." Cole did skate with the Stars on Friday, although Ruff didn't want to term it as a true practice. He hasn't played since March 20.
Apr 4 - 5:51 PM

Erik Cole (upper body) will travel with the Stars, but he isn't expected to play Tuesday night.

"He's going to join us on the road trip," coach Lindy Ruff said. "He's still day to day, but he's progressing." Cole has already missed five games due to an upper-body injury.
Apr 1 - 9:03 AM

It doesn't sound like Erik Cole (upper body) will be available to play on Friday or Saturday.

"We're hopeful that we get past these (next) two games, but the longer it goes without practice and exercising, the tougher it is going to be for him to get back in immediately," coach Lindy Ruff said of Cole's status. "And if he gets in immediately, how effective can he be without practice time?" Cole has already missed two games with an upper-body injury and he didn't take part in Thursday's session.
Mar 28 - 9:52 AM

Erik Cole missed Saturday's game with an upper-body injury.

As a result his streak of 269 consecutive games played came to an end. Cole is listed as day-to-day. He has 16 goals and 29 points in 69 appearances this season.
Mar 23 - 7:15 AM

Erik Cole, who missed Friday's practice, is still expected to play Saturday afternoon against Ottawa.

We believe it was more of a maintenance day off for Cole than a serious injury situation. That said, we would still look for an alternative for Saturday's matinee.
Mar 22 - 11:13 AM

Erik Cole had a goal and an assist in the Stars' 2-1 victory on Saturday.

It was Cole's first goal since Jan. 21. With 15 goals and 28 points in 64 games this season, he has had no fantasy value in standard leagues this season and we wouldn't bet on him rebounding in the final weeks of the campaign.
