Lubomir Visnovsky appears to be fully recovered from a concussion that cost him 58 games last season.

Visnovsky was supposed to anchor the power play last season but ended up with only 11 points in 24 games after suffering a couple of concussions last season. Look for the veteran to get 40-45 points with plenty coming with the man-advantage as the Islanders will have John Tavares and Kyle Okposo up front on the first power play unit.

Lubomir Visnovsky could be a nice sleeper pick for the coming season, as the former 68-point blueliner will be off the radar after a concussion riddled 2013-14 season.

Visnovsky played in just 24 games last year accumulating 11 points. The 38 year-old will still be relied on for heavy minutes and to quarterback the power play for the Isles if he can stay healthy. The fiery Slovakian will also help usher in the new guard on the Isles blueline, including top prospects Griffin Reinhart and Calvin de Haan.

Lubomir Visnovsky isn't out of the woods yet when it comes to his recovery from a concussion.

"Sometimes I feel good, sometimes not too well," Visnovsky said. "It's a long summer, four, five months, so hopefully I will be OK . . . [Retirement] is not for me yet. Think positive." Visnovsky had 11 points in just 24 games in 2013-14. He's dealing with his second concussion since the beginning of the campaign.
Apr 15 - 10:31 AM

The upper body injury to Lubomir Visnovsky is a recurrence of his concussion woes.

Visnovsky suffered a concussion in October and it was thought at the time that he would be out for the remainder of the season but he returned in February. There is no timetable for his return and with only three weeks left in the season and the Islanders going nowhere, the team could just shut him down for remainder of the season.
Mar 24 - 6:31 AM

Lubomir Visnovsky will not be in the Islander lineup Sunday against the Blue Jackets.

He is dealing with an upper-body injury that will keep him sidelined. Matt Carkner will dress in his place against Columbus. Consider Visnovsky day-to-day.
Mar 23 - 9:56 AM

Lubomir Visnovsky missed Friday's practice due to an upper-body injury.

Visnovsky will probably miss Sunday's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. He should be regarded as day-to-day beyond that, but obviously just about any injury is potentially season-ending this late into the campaign.
Mar 22 - 10:59 AM

Lubomir Visnovsky scored on the power play and set up the other goal in a 5-2 loss to Colorado Saturday.

It was Visnovsky's first two points since returning to action six games ago after missing over three months with a concussion. The blueliner will get extra rest over the Olympic break as the Islanders will not allow him to play for Slovakia. He has two goals and five points with a minus-three rating in only 14 games this season. He is worth looking at the rest of the way in deeper pools as Visnovsky has always been an offensive force.
Feb 9 - 7:17 AM

Team Slovakia GM Otto Sykora was confused by the New York Islanders' decision to stop Lubomir Visnovsky from playing in the Winter Olympics.

Visnovsky missed a little more than three months due to a concussion, but he returned on Jan. 27 and has played in five straight contests. Even still, the Islanders prevented him from representing his country. "If it's possible he can play and he says he's okay, he can play, I really don't understand why he not can play," Sykora said. Sykora plans to make his case to Islanders GM Garth Snow Friday night. Slovakia is in a tough spot as it is because Marian Gaborik is sidelined.

Feb 7 - 6:47 PM

Lubomir Visnovsky will not be participating in the 2014 Winter Games.

Visnovsky returned from a concussion on Jan. 27, but the Islanders still don't want him to play for Slovakia. "We just don't feel comfortable letting him go," Islanders GM Garth Snow said. That's a big blow for Slovakia, which will also be without Marian Gaborik. The nation has produced some star players, but they don't have a deep roster to fall back on.
Feb 7 - 9:54 AM

Lubomir Visnovsky logged 22:08 minutes in his return from a concussion.

That's quite a bit of playing time given that Visnovsky was sidelined for over three months. He had a plus-one rating in Boston's 6-3 victory over the Islanders.

Lubomir Visnovsky (concussion) will return to New York's lineup on Monday

He has out of action since Oct. 19 due to a concussion. Visnovsky had three points in eight games prior to getting hurt. He is superb on the power play and could be a solid pickup once he works his way back into game shape.
Jan 27 - 11:58 AM

Lubomir Visnovsky (concussion) could return to the Islanders' lineup on Monday, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.

The veteran blueliner has been out since Oct. 19. Visnovsky only began practicing without a non-contact jersey Friday and has only been practicing for about a week. He has three points on the season.
Jan 25 - 9:12 PM

Defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky practiced without a non-contact jersey Friday for the first time since being concussed on Oct. 19.

"Conditioning [and] a few more practices," is how coach Jack Capuano described what is holding Visnovsky back from returning. "If things progress the way they’re going, he could be ready next week — I’m hoping." Capuano has had to rely on a very young and inexperienced defensive corps in Visnovsky’s absence, and now through some serious growing pains, is readying for the veteran’s return. "I’d like to get healthy," said Capuano, who is also missing No. 1 defenseman Travis Hamonic to a presumed concussion. "As coaches, you always want to hold guys accountable for their play, we’ve done that at the forward position. We haven’t been healthy back there, so there aren’t a whole of lot changes we could make back there, with the roster that we have."
Jan 25 - 10:25 AM

Lubomir Visnovsky (concussion) was upbeat after returning to practice on Sunday.

Visnovsky hasn't played since Oct. 19. "I feel like a hockey player right now because when I wake up, my legs are sore, not just my head," Visnovsky said. "My body feels like it did before and it's a great feeling. I am happy to skate with the guys." He hasn't been cleared for contact yet, so he still shouldn't be counted on to return in the near future.
