The Senators have re-signed tough guy Francis Lessard to a one-year two-way deal.
No financial terms were released. It remains an open question if Lessard will open the season in Ottawa. If he does, he makes a very good source for penalty minutes. Sat, Jul 2, 2011 10:08:00 AM

The Senators expect that Francis Lessard will be suspended for Saturday's game against Boston.

He will be punished for his hit from behind in Thursday's game against Montreal. Cody Bass was recalled to take Lessard's place in the lineup. If you were counting on Lessard for penalty minutes Saturday, you will have to find another option.

Francis Lessard will not receive any further punishment for his hit on Florida's Scott Timmins on Thursday.

Lessard was handed a five-minute charging penalty and a game misconduct for his actions. Scott Timmins might have sustained a concussion as a result of the incident. Lessard has 309 penalty minutes in 101 career NHL games, but he's spent the vast majority of the last six seasons in the minors. He'll turn 32 in May and we doubt that he'll get much playing time at the NHL level beyond this season.

With openings available on the Senators' roster due to trades, Francis Lessard was re-called from the minors on Friday.

The tough guy has not played in an NHL game in almost five years. Lessard might not be in Ottawa for a prolonged period of time, however as long as he is there, he could help you in the PIMs department.

Francis Lessard has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Ottawa Senators.

Lessard spends an absurd amount of time in the sin bin at the minor league level, but the odds of him playing in the NHL are slim. He hasn't participated in an NHL game since November 4th, 2005.

Francis Lessard was returned to the minors on Sunday.

He was called up to start serving some of his suspension that he earned in the preseason. Lessard was suspended for the Coyotes' last two preseason games and three regular-season contests. He posted a league-leading 324 penalty minutes last season in the AHL.

Francis Lessard has been called up by the Phoenix Coyotes.

Lessard will begin serving a three-game suspension he received during the NHL pre-season. He'll be eligible return in time for Phoenix's game against San Jose on Monday.

Coyotes associate coach Ulf Samuelsson has pointed to Francis Lessard as someone who will definitely be in the mix for a roster spot.

Lessard hasn't played in the NHL since 2005-06, but he has 268 penalty minutes in 91 career games. He also had 324 penalty minutes in 59 AHL games last season. He has no offensive upside, but he'll rack up the penalty minutes if he can crack the Coyotes' opening day roster.

The Phoenix Coyotes have signed Francis Lessard.

No terms were announced with the 29-year-old winger. Lessard has played 91 NHL games in his career, all with the Atlanta Thrashers where he managed a goal and three assists in addition to 268 minutes in the penalty box. If he returns to the NHL, it is obvious where his fantasy value is.

The Thrashers assigned right wing Francis Lessard to Chicago of the AHL yesterday.

General manager Don Waddell believes Lessard, who has had averaged only 2:33 of playing time in six games, needs to play more.

Francis Lessard will make his season debut against the Lightning tomorrow night.

He has not had a chance to play as Eric Boulton has handled the Thrashers' enforcement duties to date. At this point, we can't recommend Lessard even to those of you who participate in goon pools.

Thrashers re-signed Francis Lessard.

Lessard managed 1 goal and 2 points along with 181 PIM in 62 games with Atlanta in 2003/04. It is clear where his fantasy value, if any lies, so depending on your league's format he may be worth owning.

Enforcer Francis Lessard will be looking for work come Monday.

Atlanta did not pick up the option in his contract. Lessard is not talented enough to make an NHL club as a defenseman, and as a forward, he is like hundreds of other would be enforcers. He should have little fantasy value this season.

Francis Lessard has re-signed with the Thrashers.

Lessard appeared in a career-high 62 games last season, recording 1 goal, 2 points and a team-high 181 PIM. His fantasy value is limited to penalty minutes so if your league does not reward them he is not recommended in fantasy pools.

Francis Lessard will return to the Thrashers' lineup for this evening's game against the Sabres, after missing Monday's contest against Carolina with an upper body injury", reports the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

If you need penalty minutes, activate Lessard immediately.
