The Penguins know that it will be a major test for them to contain Erik Karlsson.
Karlsson has a goal and five assists in five games during the playoffs. "I don't think he changes your game plan," Craig Adams said. "It just makes things more difficult when he's out there. His biggest asset is his skating. He carries the puck up the ice, but you can't always count on him playing at the point. He's just so mobile. He's got that ability to jump into the play and the speed to get back." May 14 - 11:02 AM

Through all the deadline deals the Penguins have made over the past few years, Craig Adams has remained a vital player.

He's a fourth-liner, but a key one at that. It's notable that as general manager Ray Shero has made moves to bolster the team's playoff runs, Adams has stuck in the lineup and been an important penalty killer, too. "I try to finish my checks," Adams said. "I block shots. I try to kill penalties well. I try to win faceoffs. That's something I'm really trying to get better at. I have a little bit of experience ... "

Craig Adams said he's feeling fine after taking a punch from the Islanders' Matt Martin during a fight.

Adams dropped the gloves with Martin in the first period and left the game for a brief time. He ended up playing 11:58 and also recorded an assist. "Just procedural stuff," Adams said. "I'm OK."

Craig Adams potted two goals in the Penguins' 3-1 win over the Jets on Friday night.

Adams is nothing more than a fourth-liner with no fantasy upside. The goals were his first points of the season. James Neal also had a goal, giving him 11 on the year, good for second in the league.

Craig Adams sees three levels of issues the NHL and the union need to work out before a collective-bargaining agreement is reached.

First, is league revenues. Next, is less important components like drug-testing, travel, scheduling and safety. And finally, contractual issues such as structure of entry-level deals, free agency, arbitration and maximum length of deals. "It's all tied in," the Penguins' NHLPA representative said. If you want to have growth in salaries and have guys be able to have leverage in contract negotiations and flexibility throughout their careers, then you need to have some of those things."

The salary cap could become a bargaining tool if the union and NHL continue to remain far apart on a new collective bargaining agreement.

"As far as the cap goes — look, everyone says that everything’s on the table," Adams said. "So far in our proposals we’ve kept the cap. That’s been our choice because we want to play, get a deal for both sides. But everything is negotiable." The league sought a hard cap during the last lockout. This time, the major sticking point is that the league wants to cut players' split of revenue sharing, and Adams acknowledged their first offer was one that galvanized the union.

Craig Adams is frustrated with what he feels is a lack of interest to negotiate on the league's part.

"We asked the league to continue the meeting into Monday," Adams said, who was involved in talks over the weekend. "They said they couldn't. The league wasn't interested, I guess. They said they needed to do internal stuff. Hopefully we'll meet again soon." He was also discontent with the lack of progress the two sides over that span by talking about the "smaller things." Talks are scheduled to resume on Tuesday, but the threat of cancellation for regular-season games is quickly approaching.

Alan May reports that the NHL and NHLPA are likely to meet again on Monday.

Unfortunately, numerous reports indicate that players are feeling pessimistic about significant progress being made. Still, you never know when progress might be made as the lockout stretches into October.

Penguins' NHLPA representative Craig Adams was disappointed that the division of hockey-related revenue wasn't discussed in Friday or Saturday's CBA talks.

Adams said that the two sides had reached "some common ground" on issues like scheduling and drug testing, the major roadblock hasn't been tackled. The players received 57% of hockey-related revenue in the old CBA and the owners want that reduced. "Obviously we know it’s the elephant in the room," Adams said. "That is what needs to be worked out. It’s the biggest obstacle standing between us and a new deal. I didn’t necessarily have expectations, but yeah, I’d be happier if we had made some ground." Unfortunately, the fact that it's not being discussed means that hockey fans need to guard themselves from getting too optimistic during this weekends negotiations. Still, the fact that they're talking at all is a positive sign.

Penguins' NHLPA representative Craig Adams is encouraged if only that the NHLPA and the owners will be in the same room again Friday.

The two sides are still far apart on a new collective bargaining agreement, but like Adams says, there's no harm in "exchanging ideas." "When you’re not talking, nothing can get done," Adams said. "Who knows what’s going to happen this weekend? But let’s hope something good happens, that progress is made." Negotiations could last into Sunday.

Craig Adams is eligible to return from his one-game suspension in Friday's Game 5 match-up versus Philadelphia.

He received the ban for instigating a fight in the last five minutes of regulation during Sunday's loss to the Flyers. The Penguins won their first game of the series on Wednesday though, so they may decide to keep some of those players in their lineup rather than re-insert Adams.

Craig Adams has received an automatic one-game suspension for instigating a fight in the final five minutes of Game 3.

The NHL has the power to overturn the automatic one-game suspension, but they won't. If the Penguins win Game 4 and extend the series, then Adams will be available for Game 5 on Friday.

Craig Adams could be facing a suspension for instigating a fight in the final five minutes of regulation in Game 3.

He stepped in to defend Sidney Crosby, who was tangled with Philadelphia's Scott Hartnell, and received 17 minutes in penalties on the play. The league can overturn the automatic one-game suspension with a review.

Craig Adams was able to play on Tuesday night after injuring his knee during Sunday's practice.

He logged 12:34 of ice time against the Ottawa Senators. Adams doesn't have any fantasy value.

Craig Adams may have suffered a serious knee injury in Sunday's practice.

He collided with defenseman Brooks Orpik and was seen holding his right knee before being helped off the ice. The Penguins did not provide word on his status.
