Mathieu Darche, who has been practising with the Devils and waiting for a contract offer, is planning a second career in case his hockey playing days in the NHL are over.

He is looking to get into hockey management if he can't ink a deal soon. "I had agreed with Devils' GM Lou Lamoriello last week about a date next week that if I wasn’t signed I would move on," Darche said. "He [Lou} would love to have me practice there until the trade deadline because if something happens I’m right there and they sign me and I’m ready to play, I know the system, I know the guys. But at one point, I can’t keep waiting." Darche was a decent third liner but nothing more and if he does extend his hockey career, he will have little to no fantasy value.

The Devils are once again contemplating adding Mathieu Darche to their roster.

Darche had a tryout with the Devils during the abbreviated training camp but was not signed. However, with the possible long-term injury to Dainius Zubrus, the Devils will be short forwards. Look for GM Lou Lamoriello to make a move quickly.

The Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti says it's "looking like" Mathieu Darche will soon be signing with the Devils.

The 36-year-old signed a tryout agreement with the team during training camp and he's continued to practice with the team, even without a contract. It's looking like that dedication will pay off. There's not too much fantasy appeal here -- Darche had 12 points in 61 games last season.

Mathieu Darche is willing to continue to practice with New Jersey even though he's still unsigned.

"I had a good talk with Lou," Darche said, referring to Devils GM Lou Lamoriello. "It was kind of refreshing to have the honesty. There’s no promises. They have decisions to make and I’ll keep practicing and we’ll see what the next week is going to bring." Darche had five goals and 12 points in 61 games with Montreal in 2011-12.

Mathieu Darche is waiting for a new CBA to be decided, so that he can sign with another team.

"I talked with some teams in early July and came close with one. For some reason it didn't work out," said the former Montreal forward. "I wish I'd been signed right away but then again, it's nothing I can control. (Fellow UFAs) Brendan Morrison, Jason Arnott and Dominic Moore are still unsigned. I've looked at rosters and there are still spots on a few. We'll see what the future brings." He missed the final 21 games of last season with a concussion, which he originally thought was an ear infection, but he is healthy now and believes he will find a new NHL home soon.

Mathieu Darche has missed Montreal's last 12 games with an inner-ear infection and possibly a concussion.

"I had an inner-ear infection and we treated that with antibiotics, but when that cleared up, I still had symptoms," Darche said. "So we looked at the symptoms and treated it as a concussion. Right now, I feel great and every day on the ice we ramp up the intensity and length of the workout. My wife is sick of me being at home, so I want to get back and play." If the injury was a concussion then the Canadiens forward is unsure when it happened, but he appears to be getting closer to returning to the lineup.
