Michael Ryder is mired in a 17 game goal scoring slump.
The center has been a healthy scratch during this stretch as the Devils are trying everything to get him going. He managed a couple of assists in his first game back from the benching but is pointless in his last five. Ryder has four goals and 14 points in 30 games and has little fantasy value at this time. Michael Ryder will be a healthy scratch on Tuesday.

It looks like Ryder will be making room for Adam Henrique's (upper body) return and Scott Gomez, who signed with the Devils on Monday. "Yeah, I'm angry. Of course I'm angry," Ryder said. "You want to play. Especially when I think I can help the team. If the coach doesn't feel you can help the team, it's his decision." Ryder has four goals and 12 points in 24 games this season.
Dec 2 - 12:57 PM

Michael Ryder lit the lamp twice on Thursday night but it was not enough for the Devils as the fell 4-3 to the St. Louis Blues to drop both instalments of the home-and-home.

Ryder has four goals and nine points in 13 games, not a bad output so far for the 34-year-old who put up just 34 points in 82 games last season.

Michael Ryder could have a big season this year as he got his old skates back.

Ryder had a tough 2013-14 campaign as he battled back problems and couldn't find the right skates as the company stopped making his favorite blades. So Ryder went back to his hometown and pulled some old skates out of his parents shed and asked the manufacturer to make them again. They did and he is much more comfortable this season. "For a year and a half they stopped making my skates. I had them my first year in Dallas but after that they stopped making them," Ryder said. "So this year we sent a pair of skates off to Bauer and they made them the way my old skates were.It actually makes a big difference, the way I turn and stuff like that. I’m so used to old school skates. And they just stopped making them." Ryder had a goal and two helpers on Thursday so let's just say the skates work.
Oct 11 - 7:32 AM

Michael Ryder got his 2014-15 season off to a solid start with three points in Philadelphia, Thursday night.

Thing is, the only point he should've gotten was his goal. He opened the scoring midway through the first after taking a drop pass from Ryane Clowe and shooting low cross-ice. It was a pretty snipe from atop the circles. His two assists shouldn't have been awarded, however. Lecavalier coughed the puck up to Ryder who literally tapped it Adam Henrique for a weak goal. Ryder barely influenced the play. Similarly, he made a nice outlet pass Henrique who played patty-cake with Dainius Zubrus from the neutral zone in to put the Devils up for good. But that's just how liberal official NHL scorers can be sometimes.
Oct 10 - 12:47 AM

Michael Ryder registered a goal and two assists for the Devils in Monday's 5-4 preseason win over the New York Rangers.

Ryder has been vocal about the fact he was disappointed in his 2013-14 performance and seems to be making amends already. Adam Henrique, Reid Boucher and Eric Gelinas also found the back of the net for New Jersey in the win while Keith Kinkaid and Scott Clemmensen split goaltending duties.
Sep 22 - 9:48 PM

Michael Ryder wasn't satisfied with his performance in 2013-14.

"I expect to be better," Ryder said. "I think I adjusted well here when I came in. I learned the system, I knew how to play and it I was scoring goals. Then I just got into that slump and couldn't really get out of it. And we were so close to making the playoffs that you take it on yourself sometimes. I had all summer to think about it. I have to forget about it now and make sure I’m ready for this year. I trained hard this summer and I think I'm ready to go." Ryder had 18 goals and 34 points in 82 games last season. He's surpassed the 30-goal mark in the past, but we wouldn't consider him a safe bet to do that at the age of 34.
Sep 21 - 1:04 PM

Michael Ryder was the lone New Jersey goal scorer in a 2-1 shootout loss to Ottawa Thursday.

Ryder's marker was his 18th of the year and brings his point total to 34 in 80 games. Anton Volchenkov and Tim Sestito picked up assists on the goal.
Apr 10 - 10:50 PM

Michael Ryder skated on the Devils' fourth line during Tuesday's practice.

Ryder wasn't surprised by the decision to demote him. "Well, I only have one goal in how many games is it? The coach thinks this is the best thing to do for the team, so I just have t work hard and try and earn my ice time back," Ryder said. He has just one goal in his last 26 contests.
Mar 25 - 4:07 PM

Michael Ryder's goalless drought reached 22 games on Saturday in a 3-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

He was credited with a team-high four shots, but wasn't able to score his 17th goal of the season. "It's been tough," he said after the loss. "It's been a while since I scored a goal. Especially getting shut out tonight, I had a couple of good opportunities to put the team on the board and it’s tough points to give away right now this time in the season. I've got to make sure I keep pushing and make sure I play that way or even better every night and try to find a way to score some goals."
Mar 17 - 9:50 AM

Michael Ryder fired a team-high four shots on goals for the Devils, who fell 3-0 to the Lightning on Saturday night.

Ryder also had two penalty minutes and was one of five Devils to have an even rating. Signed for his ability to light the lamp, Ryder has just 16 goals and 29 points this season. Further, the winger is mired in a deep goal drought, his last one coming Jan. 11. Dainius Zubrus had four penalty minutes and was a minus-one.
Mar 15 - 9:56 PM

Michael Ryder has not scored a goal in his last 16 games.

The streaky Ryder is in one of his bad streaks but he should come out of it soon. "I really liked him (Saturday) on the Island," coach Peter DeBoer said. "I thought (Sunday) he didn't find a way to get the puck to the net. I get concerned when he's not getting shots on net. I'm not concerned as much about the goals as I am about when the opportunities dry up. That's when you get concerned." Ryder has 16 goals and 28 points in 62 games with a minus-10 rating.
Mar 3 - 8:13 AM

Michael Ryder is as streaky a goal scorer as there is, and of late he just cannot put the puck in the net.

Against the Oilers Friday night, his drought hit 12 games, but he worked his tail off putting a team-best five shots on net and he also hit a crossbar. Finally, Ryder was rewarded in overtime, although not with a goal. When Adam Henrique did some great work along the boards to get the puck free, it went to Ryder, who whipped a backhand pass across the ice to set up Jon Merrill’s game-winner. The point was Ryder’s first in nine games. Maybe this ended his long string of bad luck.
Feb 8 - 10:36 AM

Sunday's outdoor game will be the third for Michael Ryder in his NHL career.

Ryder played in the first outdoor game in 2005 as a rookie member of the Montreal Canadiens and then played for the Boston Bruins in 2010. He has been on the winning end of the two matches and will look to make it three in a row Sunday at Yankee Stadium. Ryder has 16 goals and 26 points in 52 games with a minus-five rating and 12 penalty minutes. His fantasy value is weak in deeper pools.

Jan 26 - 8:11 AM

Michael Ryder notched a goal for the Devils in their 2-1 overtime win against the Panthers on Saturday night.

Ryder's goal came at 15:22 of the first period, his 16th of the season. It's his fourth straight game with a goal, and he very well could get 30 goals for the fourth season in his career. Marek Zidlicky scored the game winner with 2.1 seconds left via assists from Jaromir Jagr and Travis Zajac. Ryan Clowe and Adam Henrique had the other helpers.
