The Capitals' penalty kill helped propel them to a Game 1 win Thursday night.
The Capitals went down two men in the middle of the second period for 56 seconds and had close to four minutes of time on the penalty kill, but they killed it off. Minutes later the Caps scored twice in 46 seconds. "Anytime you kill a five-on-three, especially in playoffs, the momentum goes the other way, for sure," said Jason Chimera, who scored the team's third goal. "If they get a goal, they’re feeling it. If we get a kill, obviously the crowd gets into it or we get into it. Everyone’s pumped up. It’s a good way to create momentum for us." May 3 - 12:01 PM

Jason Chimera scored his first goal of the season on Sunday.

It's been quite a step back from his career-high 20-goal 2011-12 campaign. He's averaging just 13:06 minutes per game and we don't expect him to have much fantasy value in standard leagues for the remainder of the season.

Jason Chimera wasn't able to complete Monday's practice due to an undisclosed injury.

"Nothing major," Capitals GM George McPhee said of Chimera. "Should be fine. Just being careful." Consider Chimera questionable for Tuesday's game.

Jason Chimera didn't last long on Washington's top line Tuesday night, but coach Adam Oates put him back with Alex Ovechkin and Mike Ribeiro during Wednesday's practice.

"We showed him some stuff, just little things. In a sense there's a little more responsibility because you are playing against [the opponent's] best players," Oates said while talking about the discussion he had with Chimera. "You're going to play against their best lines and we need you to be reliable there. If you are, great. I love what he brings, that's really the message." The Capitals winger logged just 5:43 of ice time in Tuesday's 6-5 overtime win over Florida, while posting a minus-3 rating. Chimera has no goals and six assists in 13 games this season, but he should be motivated now to snap out of his funk.

Jason Chimera is trying not to invest too much emotion in the latest round of CBA talks.

"I don't get too up anymore," Chimera said. "I rode the roller coaster for a long time and kind of just said I don't want to anymore." That's probably a good strategy because at the moment anything is possible when it comes to the CBA negotiations.

Jason Chimera has decided to leave HC Chomutov in the Czech Republic to return home.

According to Chomutov manager Leo Gudas, Chimera "wasn't able to live here separated from family, especially his children." The 33-year-old only suited up in five games with the team. It is unclear whether he will seek an opportunity to play in North America.

Jason Chimera has elected to play in the Czech Republic with HC Chomutov.

Chimera had held out hope that an agreement would be reached, but now makes his move overseas. He'll play with NHLers Michael Frolik and Milan Jurcina. "There have been some other offers that have come his way, but I don’t think he was ready to go earlier. He wanted to stay with his family and see how the negotiations were going," said his agent, Allan Walsh. "Now he’s not really caring how the negotiations are going, he wanted to get into games and he found a good spot. Whether he’s over there for a week, two weeks or the rest of the year he’s in good shape."

Jason Chimera has an interesting way of looking at the ongoing CBA negotiations.

Chimera isn't sure if the league truly wants to make a deal. "Maybe they’re looking at the season like an advent calendar – like Christmas is coming and they’re taking their chocolates out one day at a time," Chimera said. "And when the big chocolate comes they make a proposal." In Chimera's mind, "big chocolate" might represent an 82-game season, which he isn't sure they truly want. He also expressed frustration over the league's unwillingness to negotiate points of their proposal beyond the "make whole" provision.

Jason Chimera thinks that the union and players might have come to terms by now if it wasn't for the owner's "absurd" initial proposal.

Chimera said that players were "shocked" by the owner's first offer. "It’s up to the owners," Chimera said. "They keep saying we need to come back with a proposal. It seems like we’re the only ones making concessions right now. It’s tough for the regular fan to get into it because it’s billionaires against millionaires. But ultimately they want to take 17 percent off our paychecks and they won’t back down from that. We’ve made proposals in their direction every time." Regardless of who it's "up to," we're likely to see the start of the regular season delayed. There are no more CBA talks currently scheduled.
