Jason Chimera found the back of the net in the Islanders' 7-1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Chimera cut Toronto's lead to 3-1 late in the second period, but that's as close as the Isles would come to making the game interesting. The veteran forward now has 14 goals in 55 games this season. He has a chance to surpass his career-high of 20 goals, which he set last season and in 2011-12.

Jason Chimera played in his 1,000th NHL game on Friday.

Chimera was honored before Saturday's game by the Islanders. Congratulations to Chimera on the honor.

Jason Chimera is getting comfortable with the New York Islanders.

Chimera inked a two-year deal with the Islanders after spending his previous six-plus campaigns with Washington. "It took a lot longer than I thought," Chimera said. "You don’t realize how much — the kids, the wife. We were in Washington for seven years, you get accustomed to having the same people around. The same people to watch the kids when you need it, the people your wife leans on when you’re on the road. Everything’s new here and you don’t always realize how much stress that puts on you. I’m certainly not looking for excuses but I think me and Andrew (Ladd) would tell you we wanted success to start a little quicker here." He has 10 goals and 18 points in 48 games, but that's after going on a run of five goals and six points in seven games from Jan. 13-24. Barring an injury, Friday's contest will be the 1,000th of his career.
Feb 3 - 8:44 AM

Jason Chimera netted his fifth goal of the season during Thursday's 6-4 loss to the Wild.

Chimera is now up to 12 points in 35 games this season, which must be an absolute thrill to Islanders fans everywhere.

You're always told to just go to the net, and that's exactly what Jason Chimera did.

The veteran winger took a puck off his leg from Brock Nelson for his third goal over his last four games. Chimera is now up to four goals and nine points in 25 games this season. They also to learn from your elders, for what it's worth.

Jason Chimera now has goals in consecutive games.

The veteran is now up to three goals and eight points in 23 games this season. Not quite first-line material.

Jason Chimera has yet to score.

The former Capital started the season off on the top line with John Tavares and Andrew Ladd but failed to perform. Chimera had 20 goals and 40 points last season but 25-30 seems a more likely goal for the 37-year-old veteran.

Jason Chimera skated on the top line during Tuesday's practice.

That's a surprising position for Chimera, but it's a distinct possibility after the Islanders decided to waive P.A. Parenteau, who was then claimed by the New Jersey Devils. Chimera has never recorded more than 42 points in a single season and he's 37 years old so it's hard to be upbeat about his prospects of doing better than that in 2016-17. That being said, if Chimera really does end up consistently playing alongside John Tavares and Andrew Ladd then he will at least be worth keeping an eye on.

Jason Chimera will replace Matt Martin on the Islanders depth chart.

The Islanders signed Chimera to a two-year contract worth $4.5 million and the 37-year-old is excited to be playing in Brooklyn. "They’re knocking on the door every year, and hopefully I can help get them over the hump," Chimera said. "I’m one of those guys that wants to win a Stanley Cup pretty badly, so I think it’s going to be a good fit going forward." Chimera had 20 goals and 40 points last season in Washington but don't expect that kind of production out of the bottom-six forward this season.

The New York Islanders have signed Jason Chimera to a two-year contract.

Chimera wanted to stay in Washington but when the Capitals failed to come to a deal with the veteran, he moved on to divisional rival, the Islanders. Chimera had 20 goals and 40 points last season so he has some fantasy value as he also can play on the power play. It's a great signing for the Islanders.

Jason Chimera believes he will be back with the Capitals next year.

"I still think I'm going to be back," Chimera said. "I'm not confident in anything. In this game, I think you're not guaranteed anything to be back. I want to be back. You don't think of playing anywhere else. You know the business side of it, but I still don't think I'm going to play anywhere else, but you'll see what happens, right?" The 37-year-old winger still skates as quickly as any player on the team and the Capitals want to be faster in 2016-17. The potential unrestricted free agent also had 20 goals and 40 points in 82 games this past season.

Jason Chimera can become an unrestricted free agent in July, but he wants to stay with the Capitals.

"I've been here a long time," Chimera said. "I wouldn't expect to be anywhere else next year, too. I think it's just that you want to win with these guys right now, and whatever happens next year is what happens next year." GM Brian MacLellan was asked about Chimera before the Feb. 29 trade deadline and he said there hadn't been contract talks at that time. The 37-year-old forward registered 20 goals and 40 points in 82 games in 2015-16. He has added two points in 11 playoff contests.

Jason Chimera registered an assist in Washington's 4-3 overtime win against the Penguins in Game 1 on Thursday.

It was Chimera's first assist and second point of the 2016 playoffs. During the regular season he had 20 goals and 40 points in 82 games.

Jasno Chimera scored the Game 2 winner on Saturday.

It was deflection from 101 feet out that somehow got past the Flyers Steve Mason. It was Chimera's sixth winning goal in the post-season, tying him for the Capitals lead with Peter Bondra, one ahead of Alex Ovechkin. Chimera had a good regular season as he hit the 21 goal mark for only the second time in his career as he also chipped in with 21 assists.
