Blair Betts has been placed on Philadelphia's long-term injured reserve list.

Blair Betts (knee) will be re-examined by the Flyers' doctors after Montreal declared him physically unfit to play and reserved their waiver claim.

Philadelphia was trying to send Betts to the minors by first putting him on waivers, but he's still in the NHL now that Montreal has claimed and returned him. "We’ll get him checked out in the next few days and see what the issues are, if there are any, and then we’ll deal with them if we find out," Flyers GM Paul Holmgren said. "I don’t know anything more. We knew that he had a bone bruise from a game when he got hit with a puck and he had some blood taken off his knee before. But our doctors cleared him and we placed him on waivers, and obviously, when he got to Montreal, they did their own work on him, an MRI or whatever, and they found something that was worrisome to them." We'll keep you posted.

Blair Betts has been claimed off waivers by the Montreal Canadiens.

The Philadelphia Flyers put him on the waiver wire on Tuesday and as expected he didn't clear. Andreas Engqvist was expected to fill Montreal's fourth-line center role going into the season, but now that position should go to Betts. He won 50.3 percent of his total 817 faceoffs last season and should help in the penalty kill department as well.

Blair Betts was waived by the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday.

He could be claimed as his $700,000 salary isn't very much and he can fill a role as good fourth-line center, who can win faceoffs and kill penalties. Betts might also stay the Flyers if 29 other teams take a pass on his services.
